1789 Tasting Notes

I’ve had a few cups of this over the long weekend. It’s really surprising how much I love it but it’s nice and creamy, I can actually taste the chocolate, and the rose (while strong) isn’t smack-me-in-the-face floral.

Another sipdown, courtesy of *Sil!

Thanks for teasing me with a cup of this delicious tea. I’ll try to get as many resteeps as I can out if it, and then pretend it doesn’t exist since I won’t be making any US order for a while. :P

Damn you, Canadian Dollar!

What you need to do about that darned Canadian dollar is find someone like me who goes up to Canada a couple times a year. have the tea shipped to one of us, and when we head north we can bring it with us. If you’re ion Winnipeg we can make an exchange right here. If you’re outside the Peg we can maybe post it from there… Not that I’m trying to be an enabler or anthing…

Kittenna 10 years ago

That helps with shipping, but the exchange rate being <0.80 is what really kills us :(

Maddy Barone 10 years ago

Yeah, I see your point. Oh, well. There are a number of excellent tea companies on your side of the border too.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

I appreciate the offer, but yeah, it’s mostly the exchange that’s bringing me down. :| But, now it forces us to explore Canadian retailers more (and buying directly from Asia?)

And I’m ending my night with this. It’s very nice and smooth, and I’m getting chocolate notes. It’s perfect. Now I’m looking up Tribute Tea’s website because I don’t know anything about the company and I’m interested in what else they have!

Thanks Sil/Terri!

I want to order from them when we come off hiatus…maybe once the dollar goes up…so we can do a joint order!

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Sounds good! :)

And here’s another Butiki tea, gone forever… 160

I’m not trying to sip these down on purpose, but I try a cup, really enjoy it, and gravitate back to it over the next few days. The last new blends were really well done and I have no regrets about drinking them while they are at their peak.

This was very maple-y, with a nice almond breadiness to balance it out. LOVELY.

Sil 10 years ago

That’s how I feel…they will be gulped up if I want them…no hoarding and drink them while they’re fresh! Butiki party!

This tea should have been amazeballs, but it was just bland. Really bland. Maybe I steeped it wrong?

Thanks for passing it on though Sil! Maybe I just need to try this one again at a later date!

162 – another sipdown, courtesy of MissB!

This one smelled so strongly that I decided I needed to drink it soon because
a) it smells intriguing
b) I’m worried it’ll corrupt my gentler teas.

I think it’s mostly fennel and anise, but maybe there’s a bit of mint hiding behind all of that. It’s intense, even after 3 min, but I think this would be the perfect tea or a sore throat. It’d probably coat and cool it and make me feel better. I’d definitely like it around for sick days.

For regular days, it’s nice when you want something punchier in the evening, without the caffiene.

Thanks again! This was a really unique blend!

Sipdown! 163

Thank you, Sil and Terri! I really enjoyed this oolong and it was the perfect day for it. I used my little gongfu pot, and steeped two little cups worth at a time so that I could sit and relax with it, and even with a 30 second steep, it was really rich and roasty. I ended up drinking it for 2 hours! I would definitely drink more!

Thanks for sharing Sil! I quite enjoyed this one! It was creamy and had a lot of christmas spices to it – notes of orange and zips of nutmeg and cinnamon. I drank it before I really had a chance to savour everything, but it was delicious and I’d try it again.

Haha oh man, I still haven’t written about this one yet. I’m glad she passed some down.

Thanks for giving it to her to begin with!

Good. This tea is good. Apparently no one else has rated it but that just means more for meeeeeeeeeee.

Oh this makes me think I need to give Full Steam some love. It has been hiding at the back of the cupboard.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Do it! Full Steam is really great too. I know I’ll be sad when I’m out of all my Hugo teas.

I’ve had a few Butiki sipdowns lately, but I still have several cups left of this one. Phew. I love it, and I’ve never found anything quite like it. I shall savour every drop!

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a little girl and a devoted bf, two cats, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, fandom!, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!

I keep trying to learn languages on Duolingo and failing. I’m currently failing Esperanto. :P
