drank Hot Chocolate by DAVIDsTEA
1789 tasting notes

Ok, this is definitely NOT Hot Chocolate, but considering it’s tea it’s remarkably close. It smells amazing brewed hot, and doesn’t turn to a bitter tepid mush when you leave it on your desk and come back to it an hour later.

It’s a little sweet, but not quite TOO sweet. It’s earthy and rich and smells so strongly of chocolate that it tricks your brian into thinking you’re drinking more chocolate than you are.

I’ll have a few more cups to decide, but I might want to grab more of this!

drank Slim and Slender by CitizenTea

So I took a gamble on this and grabbed 50g, and I’m happy I did.

I don’t really believe in the health benefits, but it’s still my magical skinny tea and if I want to pretend for a minute, I will. :P (Just like it’s fun to think what you’d do with a winning lotto ticket that you know you’re not going to win on)

Anyway, this tea is very light and refreshing, yet earthy at the same time. It’s an odd combination with the fruity pineapple, guava and green mate mixing together to make it light and refreshing, and the puerh pulling it back down to earth and giving it just a little bit of weight. I really like it.

Based on the description, I assume this is the same blend that they sold at Teaopia previously.

I love this tea, even though it’s so sweet and full of trash – it smells delicious and it’s absolutely comforting. This is the tea I need for election day.

(But why are DT’s teas so artificial lately? I want flavours without all the random things… Still, that doesn’t stop me from getting 100g of this no questions asked though!)

Anyway it’s election day and I hope all you Americans are ok and able to make it to the polls safely. I can’t believe how aggressive some people are about preventing people from voting. Ugh. Just ugh.

Today is a balance of reading the news, and quickly consuming as many cute pictures of puppies/badgers and Tom Hardy as I can.

drank Darjeeling by Unknown
1789 tasting notes

This tea totally matches my mood today – slight bitterness, with a bit of brightness peeking through. if I can ignore the astringency it’s not a bad tea, but it reminds me why I usually stay away from Darjeeling teas in general. (I’ll take any Assam or Yunnan over a Darjeeling)

Why am I bitter? Oh! Thanks for asking. :P

Turns out when I went to update my tea spreadsheet last night, I broke the sort order in my columns and now my ratings are no longer tied to the teas and it’s a huge mess and several years of data that’s just… nonsensical? I saved after I broke it so I don’t see how to get back.

But, fine. Ok. New start. I’m here. I can add my cupboard here. I can create a new spreadsheet, and why not. My tastes have adjusted over the years, along with my budget. :P (That’s the brightness poking through! :D)

Dexter

Sucks that you need to start your spreadsheet again…. :(

Sil

dope.

Cavocorax

I was able to salvage half of it! I have my overall rating, but no notes. So, hey that’s not so bad.

drank Black Pearls by CitizenTea
1789 tasting notes

I’m back! (Let’s see for how long?)

But I met up with VariaTEA, Sil, Kittenna and Christina today in Toronto, we swapped tea, caught up on what we could in a few hours, and… I miss you guys. :P

I haven’t made an actual tea order in… months, but I bought a bunch of samples from CitizenTea last month, and so far I’m pretty impressed. No, they’re not the fanciest-pantsest of tea companies out there, but it’s good quality, good prices, excellent customer service, and I love the packaging.

I brewed up three pearls, and gave it 4 minutes. The result was a nice bright brew with chocolate and honey notes, and a smooth finish. I left it unfinished for half an hour, and when I came back to polish it off, it wasn’t bitter at all either. That’s what I’m looking for.

I would definitely order more the next time they offer free shipping etc.

Roswell Strange

Welcome back! Even if it’s only temporary ;)

Sil

it was fun! always nice getting a chance to catch up on things and talk about nothing in particular haha

drank Coconut Ice by DAVIDsTEA
1789 tasting notes

I tried it hot and it was not very good at all, and then I tried it iced (double-strength & poured over ice) and it was REALLY GOOD.

It’s not quite coconut ice cream like the description promises, but it’s not far from that. There’s something in the mouthfeel that makes it have more body than your usual tea. It’s naturally a little sweet, and tastes strongly of coconut.

Price of this vs. price of coconut water = this tea wins.

Sil

really? i didn’t try this one as i’m not generally a fan of coconut..

Cavocorax

Well that makes a huge difference I’m sure since I really like coconut. :)

drank Electric Lemonade by DAVIDsTEA
1789 tasting notes

I approve. I like mate blends and can always go for more. And lemonade too!

It’s a little odd hot because the lemon makes me think of Neo Citron, but that’s not the tea’s fault I have this association.

Cold, it is nice and refreshing, and hopefully it’ll give me the motivation to get moving. Probably not though. It’s too hot this weekend and I’ve got new 3DS games to play and, I’m lazy.

Would I buy more? Possibly, especially since I can’t get flavoured mate from Butiki anymore. Oh, and I CAN taste the berries, but it seems nicely balanced and doesn’t take away from the lemon.

Thanks to Dex and Sil for sharing some of this with me. I’d tried a few yunnan teas lately and they blurred together, but for whatever reason, this one stood out. It’s sweet and malty and just a little bit chocolately. It’s quite nice, even after my 3rd steep!

drank Mulberry White Tea by RiverTea

It’s such a shame this tea is no longer available. Or this company for that matter…

I added more leaf than I usually do to this and it’s just delicious. It tastes almost like liquid honey this time around except I know I didn’t add any sweetener!

KittyLovesTea

This is the one I will miss the most from RiverTea :( Such a shame they didn’t make it in the tea world.

drank Fu Shou Shan by Butiki Teas

This tea is so great. So great.
I’m tasting butter and spinach and ‘green’. I’m happy I bought the mystery box to get this one as I wouldn’t have tried it otherwise.

I’ll have to buy it somewhere else once I’m done!

Sil

haha one i never tried lol

Cavocorax

You want a cup? I think I’ve got a few left!

Sil

only if you can spare!

Cavocorax

I’m sure I can. :D I’ll go set some aside!

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a little girl and a devoted bf, two cats, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, fandom!, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!

I keep trying to learn languages on Duolingo and failing. I’m currently failing Esperanto. :P
