Sadly, I’m getting bored of this tea. BORED.
(I don’t feel too bad saying this bc it’s a tea that’s no longer available. :P)

i don’t think i’ve tried this one yet lol

Cavocorax 10 years ago

No? Well…. I can certainly set some aside for you! I thought I had it in the SSTTB but I guess that went to ppl AFTER you. Did you have the other Hugo teas that I grabbed? Full Steam is amazing. Grey Line is good but I understand if you don’t want to try the best EG I’ve had. :P

tea-sipper 10 years ago

BORED reminds me when Sherlock says it, but that could be because I’m reading Baskervilles at the moment. :D

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Hahah. That’s pretty great tea-sipper. :)

Sil 10 years ago

pretty sure i enjoyed full steam. was just this one i hadn’t had i think

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Well it’s on my spreadsheet now so I’ll make sure you get to try it!

drank Spearmint (organic) by DAVIDsTEA
1789 tasting notes

I would never in a million years have bought this tea, but a friend gave me 50g of it bc she was allergic and I can happily tell her it has gone to a great home. I let a heaping spoon of it steep in my mason jar for a few hours and it was delicious!!!

I added some lime juice, and it was delicious.

I’ll add some Rangpur Gin and see how it goes!

White puerh? Ok, why not? I probably shouldn’t have steeped this for the full 10 min as it IS a bit stronger than I’m used to with puerh, but I can see how this is a white/puerh blend. It’s definitel dark and earthy, but there’s also that tree barky flavour I expect with certain white teas. There’s a bit of sweetness in there – like honey – and the liquor is dark and rich.

The honey notes actually become more prominent further in the cup, and as it cools. INTERESTING. This isn’t one I thought I’d immediately love but it’s growing on me!

Thank you Sil!

Cavo, how do you steep puerh if you’re not doing short steeps? I’ve only done it in my gaiwan for short steeps, and this method sometimes prevents me from drinking it, because it takes more attention/time. I’d love to learn a way to steep puerh in a less fussy fashion.

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

You could do it my terrible awful way, which is putting ~1/2 tsp leaf into a thermos and adding hot water and forgetting about it until about 4 hours later. :D Only works for some teas though.

DeliriumsFrogs 10 years ago

haha! Maybe I’ll try that sometime. :)

Cavocorax 10 years ago

The packaging from teavivre said to steep it for 6-10 min so that’s what I went with. I thought that was a little insane, but Mandala’s Special Dark says the same and for the first time I just go with what the vendor suggests.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

OMGsrsly – I bet Special Dark would survive a 4 hour steep. :P

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

I have some! I might try it. :D

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

The nuggets from Mandala work GREAT that way, you can steep for 4 hours 3-4 times before simmering them on the stove to extract the last of the goodness.

DeliriumsFrogs 10 years ago

ooooh! I love these ways of steeping! :D I must try.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

And, I must try doing short steeps more often too! :P I just have a hard time dedicating an afternoon to puer. :P But luckily a lot of the tea I’ve bought from Mandala/Verdant have instructions for Western Style brewing. :P Or I guess, but I know I’m missing out on a lot of the nuances… (but if it means I do that, or I don’t drink it at all, then… I’m doing ok)

DeliriumsFrogs 10 years ago

That’s just it, for me too. I love when I can find the time to dedicate to a full puerh session, but there are days I want to drink it, but don’t have the time to sit down properly for multiple short steeps. Also, I haven’t figured out how to keep my water warm sufficiently, and it can be a real pain heating up cold water repeatedly for the session (I either need a better kettle, or a thermos… not sure which).

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

Thermos! Kettle just means you’re reheating the water constantly. Unless you get one of the Asian water heaters..

Oh man, I love A&D Damn Fine Tea. I think I currently have 5 tins of tea from these guys and I pretty much love all of them. (I’m not so fussed about the Double Knit blend but the rest are amaze).

I’m drinking this bc we’re not getting a Goat/Sheep tea for Chinese New Year, which makes me sad, but the fact that I still have LAST YEAR’s TEA (and a lot of it) really helps make up for that. I tend to savour these teas and they last me months. And while I’ve had a lot of Yunnan teas lately (mostly thanks to Sil, I find that I have the warmest thoughts about this silly horse tea!)

Baaaa! I would love a sheep tea. Or a goat tea. :)

donkeyteaarrrraugh 10 years ago

i agree…their teas are very reliable….but their shipping’ll kill ye!

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Yeah, shipping is rough! That’s why I order big when I do order, and preferably when they have a shipping discount! I think like time I placed an order someone asked if we could get some love in Canada and they gave us a $5 discount on shipping – that was good enough for me!

I wish they would give you the option to buy the tea w/o the tins though – it’d make shipping cheaper AND I could reuse these pretty tins!

Thanks Sil! I was surprised by how much I liked this one! It’s very light and refreshing, but still dark enough to give me that black-tea kick that I need! It’s strange, but with the chai/mint combo, I’m getting a bit of a licorice flavour to it, but that just mean that it tastes cool and refreshing. I could easily drink 50g-100g of this one!

Sil 10 years ago

:) you’re going to catch up to me at this rate…i can’t seem to get sipdowns in and things are incoming lol

I thought it was almost time to go home like an hour ago, so it’s been decided that I need a cup of this, liquid joy, to distract me while I wait out the rest of my day..

It’s so good and I will miss it.
(I’m not convinced that guayasa really wakes me up but maybe I’m just immune to everything. I mean, lbr, I drank a full cup of coffee and then napped on the couch like 5 minutes after on the weekend…)

Haha I’m totally immune to caffeine. It’s all about drinking for pleasure.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Woah! That’s interesting!

Coffee naps have saved me a few times now, during my undergrad. :)

Indigobloom 10 years ago

I tried it once with coffee, a few times with tea unintetionally. Its a different sort of nap that’s for sure!

Cavocorax 10 years ago

I’ll wait, don’t worry. :P I shouldn’t be buying tea for a few months anyway… But I have this on my spreadsheet with notes to remind me to look for it again!

Sil 10 years ago

oh good. :) i’m trying to hold off until at least april/may ince that’s vacation to vancouver. i think

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Yeah no worries. :) I don’t foresee any impulse purchases any time soooon? (Partially bc I’m waiting to see if I’m going to be working after next month or not!)

Sil 10 years ago

summer break?

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Yeah. We’ll be done Hannibal in April – but it’ll slow down before that bc we might not have to built much more. And we don’t have anything schedule for after. Boss is thinking he might want a break. Whether that’s a few weeks or a few months, IDK yet. :P When things are calmer I’ll find out.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Ugh. UGHHHH. UGHGHGHGHGH – typos.

Thanks OMGsrsly! Now THIS is the type of white teas that I like. It’s very gentle and refreshing, and just as enjoyable hot and cooled. There’s a little bit of sweetness in it, but it’s’ subdued and relaxing – a perfect afternoon tea!

:) I really like this one too. And Tea Centre legit does ship, but I don’t think they do shipping deals.

Cavocorax 10 years ago

That’s good to know. I accept that I have to pay shipping, so I just try to max my orders out. :D

Sil 10 years ago

or i bring it back? with my extra suitcase?

Cavocorax 10 years ago

Hahah. HAVE FUN SIL!

OMGsrsly 10 years ago

You going to Courtenay then, Sil? :)

Sil 10 years ago

Thanks MissB and Sil for sharing this with me! I saw Sil’s warning and steeped it at a lower temperature so no complaints there -but it’s really bark-y? I’m sure that’s just because of the base white tea because I’ve had ‘white chocolate teas’ before with white tea and they taste very similar. I liked this cup, but it’s probably not something I’d order more of – mostly bc I’m not big on white chocolate? :D But I’m happy I had a cup. A cup is the perfect amount!

Bio

Tea: I just started drinking loose tea in the fall of 2012, and once I started I had to get more and more and try ALL THE TEAS. Joining Steepster made this worse/easier.

So far it seems that I prefer unflavoured black teas, although I still drink a few that are flavoured each day too. Oolongs, greens, puerhs and white teas are all very good, but I just don’t crave them as often.

Yet.

Me: Ok. Random things. I like animals, I have a little girl and a devoted bf, two cats, and … I’m a geek. I like Lord of the Rings, Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones, Supernatural, fandom!, pen&paper RPG’s, online RPG’s, video games, silly internet memes, puzzles and a bunch of others things! I taught myself to knit and I’m considering crochet but I need to make time for all these things!

I keep trying to learn languages on Duolingo and failing. I’m currently failing Esperanto. :P
