I drank this one for the sipdown! I gotta make room for all my incoming teas!

It was very nice though. Not sure I’d go out of my way to buy this, but I wouldn’t say no to getting more in a swap.

Thanks again CrowKettle for helping to introduce me to matcha!

CHAroma

What does lucuma taste like?

Cavocorax

Sadly, I still couldn’t tell you. It was sorta ambiguous, yet enjoyable.

No idea what Lucuma is, but I guess it’s a fruit from the picture! :P #detectiveskills

I actually really like this. Maybe it’s because it has the stronger flavouring, or maybe because I finally got the right consistency, but whatever – I like it! It tastes like matcha, and it’s a bit sweet, and it blends well with my milk. All good things. I guess there’s something else in there – possibly fruity, but I’m just happy enough with this that I don’t need to investigate further. I just drank 6 oz and I sorta want to go make 6 oz more!

Thank you CrowKettle!

Yay! Thanks CK for swapping with me for this!

If you like matcha and pina colada you’ll very likely dig this. I thought it was great as an iced latte!

BrewTEAlly Sweet

How did you prepare yours? I’m experimenting right now

Stephanie

Hmm, I think a cold latte with real milk- shaken with some sugar or honey, I forget which one- in a cocktail shaker with ice.

Made this cold in a water bottle today at work. 1/2 tsp in 6oz water. Albeit it was room temperature water. I found it was much more flavourful this way. Very creamy, buttery and strongly vanilla. It could be French butter cookie but I think I would call it vanilla birthday cake. I also add a sprinkle of white sugar.

I bought this one as classic grade matcha and robust flavour.

On smelling the package before even opening it, it did smell like french butter cookie to me. When I opened the package, there was a very strong astringent almost chemical smell, on top of a buttery matcha smell. So I got a bit worried.

I brewed it up traditional style, with just hot water. The smell of the brewed matcha is a very strong green matcha smell. There is a light buttery, vanilla smell as well. None of the astringent, chemical smell that I smelled in the dry matcha. It tastes like green matcha with buttery and vanilla notes. There is a light pastry taste. Moderately creamy. After adding some white sugar, it tasted a bit a cookie. I would not say it tastes like a french butter cookie but more like a generic vanilla cookie or vanilla cake. If I think about it hard enough it could be french butter cookie.

The flavours start to become much stronger and much less green matcha taste as it cools.

I had this one as distinctive and it just sort of tasted like generic creamy.

an overcast day and lots of lounging around and doing lazy chores at home.
i’ve been feeling particularly lost these days. (i thought it was the cold weather that was inducing a certain melancholy but i guess not) a cup like this is the comfort a soft soul needs. it’s such an amazing treat!
omg how will i ever choose which flavors to buy?
thank you thank you thank you whatshesaid.

Coconut, distinctive level flavoring. One pound package. Free shipping sucked me in again. No regrets, though, because the sugary deliciousness of this burns with the intensity of 1000 suns. I will never get a green tea frappe from Starbucks again (that statement is almost definitely a lie).

I made this up as a warm latte, with one tablespoon of powder and about a cup of frothed soy milk. I didn’t sift or whisk anything up although I superstitiously stirred with a spoon a few times in a halfhearted manner. There was no debris at the bottom so I figure I got away with it.

My invoice says I ordered Caramel but the package label and it’s powdery green contents clearly say Coconut. I’m not phased by this whatsoever, and wasn’t fully invested in caramel anyways.

I’ve tried the the regular coconut matcha from Red Leaf at a robust level, and wasn’t particularly won over by the whole sunscreen on the beach vibe. It turned out to be an excellent flavour here, however; it’s a lot lighter on the senses than the robust coconut matcha. This is exactly how I like my coconut, creamy, thick, and light, with a good dash of sweetness to boot. One pound will likely not last too long.

Courtney

So this one was supposed to be caramel I gather? I love coconut and this sounds delicious. I even have their website opened now to check it out, though I’ve gone a wee bit overboard ordering lately…

ashmanra

Oooo, this is the next one I want to order, but I thought in would get regular matcha rather than MATCHAccino and upgrade the base one notch. It sounds soooo good.

OMGsrsly

Oh, it’s so good. I have the same one and use it in my smoothies every morning. If it wasn’t almost bedtime, I’d try it hot. :)

Thank you so much to Mercuryhime for this sample!

This is the first red matcha I have tried. I’m loving that I can drink this late at night and not have to worry about being up all night! I prepared it as a latte with some milk and sugar and oh man it’s good! The cheesecake flavor is nice and creamy and smooth. I’m not able to pick out a rooibos flavor, which I expected. I need (yes, need) to order some of this soon because I can’t stop thinking about it and wishing I had more! Must finish off more teas before making another purchase! We shall see how my will power holds up against the desire for this tea!

Mercuryhime

Funny! I definitely taste the rooibos in this, which makes me like it less than classic matcha. The fact that you can drink it any time of day is pretty exciting though.

This was my first experience with matcha. I’m addicted to caramel popcorn, so when I saw reviews online saying this tastes just like the real thing, I knew I had to try it! I live in an apartment complex, and when I walked into the mailroom, I could immediately smell caramel popcorn—it was THAT strong (in my opinion, that’s a great thing!).

I tore open the box it came in as soon as I got back to my apartment, and when I cut open the bag the matcha was held in, it smelled exactly like fresh popped caramel corn. As I said, I had never had matcha before, so I didn’t notice any matcha scent.

I first tried it prepared in the traditional method, with hot water. While I could taste the caramel corn, there was also an earthy, woody taste that I’m assuming was the matcha. I think I used too much powder, though, because it also left my mouth feeling very dry.

I tried it today as a latte, and I liked it this way much better. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a teaspoon of splenda. I could hardly taste the woody flavor I mentioned earlier, but the caramel tones really came out with the milk. This was the perfect midafternoon pick-me-up, and I’ll most likely be ordering again.

Get the tea here! http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/caramel-popcorn-matcha.html

omg!
Dinosara!
my first matcha!

i started timidly. 1/2 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk. 1 teaspoon matcha. 1 teaspoon agave syrup (cuz the milk is unsweetened). and a little hot water to mix with the matcha.

i loved it. and i know i could make it better too!
i loved it.

Dinosara

Yay! I actually only use 1/2 tsp of matcha for 6oz of liquid, so a little goes a long way. Some people like theirs stronger though, so definitely experiment with different amounts.

Shmiracles

YES!
first i will buy proper matcha equipment.
then i will try less matcha per cup. (and also less agave.)
and then i will keep trying! and experimenting! it’s gonna be great.
and then i will place too many orders for matcha! and will be poor and will have to drink my matcha alone to survive!

Shmiracles

HEY GUISE!
what do you use to prep your matcha? i know everyone’s different…

Cavocorax

Woo! I just bought a matcha measuring spoon. I figure that’s one step in the right direction to improving my matcha skills.

Jackie T sent me a bunch of matchas to try, and so far, I think this one might be my favorite. I had it yesterday at work, I took it in a mason jar. Yum.

This one, I would consider ordering. Thanks for sharing, Jackie! I can’t wait to try more.

Courtney

I will be ordering more of this once I get through mine. So delicious!

I don’t know what is wrong with me or my taste buds, but I did not get any cookies or cream out of this, either in taste or aroma! I prepared 1/2 teaspoon, sifted and whisked – then got sweetened matcha, but no flavour! I ordered the distinctive flavouring, and am wondering if I should have taken it up a notch. I will be trying it again another time, in case something was off in this experience, but I am a little disappointed. The aroma wasn’t even cookies and cream – it was almost more burnt sugar/creme brulee. I’m not a fan of milk at all, and don’t particularly enjoy it in matcha, but I might try that at some point to see if it brings out the creaminess. Hoping for better matcha luck with the cheesecake and strawberry flavours.

*Will rate another time after I re-try.

Babble

I didn’t quite understand the hype myself. I wasn’t too fond of the flavor and didn’t really taste much, either.

Indigobloom

Same here, I just can’t grow to love this one for some reason. It tastes rather chemical like to me

This is a backlog from a few days ago. Just thinking about this review is making me want another latte of this, but it is too late for me to risk the caffeine. Definately first thing tomorrow morning. Anyway, strawberry milkshake is a reasonable description of what a latte of this tastes like. Obviously it has a vegetal match undertone, but at robust flavoring it is a strawberry treat. Yummy!

My tasting notes say I last had this 4 months ago and that is just too long. Though I have been put off by flavoured teas I find matcha to be different. Or at least today I do.

My husband arrived home from work and went straight upstairs to clean the bathroom. No nagging or hinting necessary…it’s like he’s been replaced by an alien. Completely blown me away. I don’t mean to make him sound like he doesn’t help me or around the house, it’s just that he works very long hours and travels a lot so he doesn’t get time to do most things.

As a treat I whipped us up a cookies and cream matcha iced milkshake. Him for being a wonderful husband and helping while I have my bad back and me for doing my orders today and managing to struggle to the post office to send them. :)

It also reminds me to make some cookies and cream matcha lip balms.

This was on my shopping list for the better part of a year and finally today I managed to get my hands on some, I feel like Gollum when he had the ring my precioussss! I’m even crouched over the matcha hiding it from the world and examining it’s beauty. Cookies & Cream… there cannot be a better tea flavour out there for me. Well watermelon is a close second.

It’s scent is strong and sweet, it reminds me of some caramel biscuits I had in America last year but cannot recall the name. Oreo is pictured with them which is my favourite cookie/biscuit but the scent is not quite the same, lacks the chocolate to be Oreo. It does smell cookie like though and sweet.

First brewing method will be something deserved…a Cookies & Cream latte me thinks. I don’t have matcha that often but have been craving it lately, had some that tasted like fish and put me off for a while.

Once brewed this has a much more real cookie aroma, baked and warming like fresh cookies and so sweet and delicious.

sip …. HOLY MOLY! I must have died and gone to heaven checks pulse. The milk has brought out the real creaminess and left a sweet pure cookie essence. If I close my eyes and sip it’s like having a very thin Oreo milkshake that has been warmed slightly. Unbelievably good. So worth the wait.

I cannot taste any matcha/green tea at all, no bitterness or anything tea like can be detected. I’m going to trick my husband with it later…say it’s a new milkshake for him to try and see if he can tell there is tea in there. Muhahahahaha!

Overall – It’s mine and you can’t have any! :p

Sixie

Ha! I enjoyed reading this. While I have yet to get into matcha, I have the utmost appreciation for that HOLY MOLY PERFECT 100 YOU CAN’T HAVE ANY OF IT moment! Its the best! I have experienced this myself with another tea (my precious) ended up buying half a pound of it and have forced everyone I know and love to share it with me.

ohfancythat

Did you get the delicate, distinctive or robust? I am always curious as I have had a few now where the flavour wasn’t super noticeable and this one is on my radar :)

Sil

I think this one would be super good with a black base but haven’t tried anything but with the green base yet.

tattooed_tea

I had sent the rest of mine to you :( darn postal service

Ze_Teamaker

TOO THE SHOPPING LIST!!!

Chelle

mmmmmmmm. I have a giant list of flavored RLT matcha forming.

KittyLovesTea

@whatshesaid This is the robust flavour.

I desperately want more matcha but just cannot afford it at present. :(

ohfancythat

Maybe robust is the way to go. Thanks for the info!

Sil

Whatshesaid…..most of my initial matcha purchases were robust until I learned which ones I could back down to distinctive. I’ve found that the coffee/chocolate/creamy ones I tend to want robust while fruitier matchas I like distinctive better.

Kitty – I’m sure ill have more matcha to share at a later date

Remember too if you guys buy one matcha from red leaf, do the review, you get 30% off your next matchas with the 15$ GC you get.. That’s the only reason I can afford most of my matcha heh

tattooed_tea

Kitty I have 3 other flavours here I just can’t get into. I’d be willing to send them to you if you’re interested.

KittyLovesTea

@tattooed_tea That sounds great. What flavours do you have? And what would you like from my cupboard for them?

Shmiracles

i have my first matcha coming in the mail to me via a swap. now i am worried i will fall so in love that i will become poor. very quickly.

tattooed_tea

Kitty, consider it a gift, seeing as the last package didn’t make it’s way to you.
I have Pumpkin Pie, Eggnog & Cheesecake. All in robust flavouring. & each one has 1 serving from it.

KittyLovesTea

tattooed_tea – I did receive it, came through yesterday…I sent a message to you either last night or this morning (I have a bad memory) to let you know it was received. :)

I made this this morning before I started work, overheated the milk first and then forgot while I was frisking so it didn’t start out well. There’s a pot of herbal berry tea in the Breville waiting for me and also breakfast (orange carrot juice and a clementine). I’m pushing through this because it is just on my ’it’s okay’ list rather than a ‘love it but it’s old’ list of the matcha I have at work.

I don’t love this. From my previous tasting note, I never did. It again tastes on the edge of artificial for me and I’m just not into it. It’s been difficult getting back into matcha after a couple months of absence. At home I can make them into smoothies with fruit which is delicious but at work I have no options other than what I can achieve with a microwave and a milk frother. Does anyone on here have any experience with portable blenders at work?

I’m thinking of giving this up. It’s on the older side, but the flavour is still strong for me. Probably 20g left. Classic matcha, distinctive flavour level.

Stephanie

This is on my “try someday” list if you decide you want to swap it out! :)

Starfevre

I have enough to send to you and stuff into the TTBB if you like. Throw some in a plastic baggie, that’s all I’ve got. I can send you a teaspoon or so, enough for 1 or 2 servings, depending on your taste preference. Do I have your address?

Stephanie

A baggie is totally fine. I think you have my address, but I can PM if you if you want…is TTBB a traveling tea box? I don’t think I’m currently on the list for any of those.

Thanks! This way I’ll know if I like it enough to order in the future. Can I send you anything? My cupboard is pretty well up to date I think.

Starfevre

Traveling Tea Box B. I’m the last stop before it goes back to the initiator. I’ll go find your address when I get home from work. I don’t like the new message setup, but I’m sure I can find you.

Stephanie

Sweet! :D

I haven’t had the pure macadamia nut matcha so I don’t know how it compares with this one, and I haven’t had actual macadamia nuts in a long while, but this does taste like what I vaguely remember that those nuts tasted like way back when. There is also the addition of a bit of sweetness, almost artificial tasting, to the high note of the sip. It tastes much like it smells, nutty with a fair bit of sweetness.

I’d been putting off tasting this matcha for a while because I couldn’t decide if I liked the smell of it or not, the sweetness was confusing for my nose because it smelled (and tastes) right on the edge of artificial for me. Since praline (which I just looked up) is basically boiled ground up nuts with a sugar syrup added, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that the sweetness has no real character to it. It’s just…sweet.

As I continue drinking this, I still can’t decide if I like it or not. There’s a sharpness to the nutty taste that’s sort of putting me off. Possibly it’s true to an actual macadamia nut taste and the sharpness is from the nut itself, but I don’t remember macadamia nuts well enough to tell.

Basically, if you like macadamia nuts, and want something sweeter than the regular blend, this is probably a good one for you. I want RLT to come out with more nutty blends though. I’d love to see a cashew or a pecan matcha.

You can find this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/macadamia-praline-matcha.html

Stephanie

Seconded on the nutty blends!

So, does anyone else have baby fever?

I have serious baby fever. My biological clock started ticking the second I turned 26. I’ve since been trying to feel out my new husband and see where his feelings on the matter are. Perhaps I can convince him to start trying in 6 months…perhaps. ;)

It’s going to suck being pregnant and not getting to enjoy my sizable tea stash for 9+ months. Can you drink caffeine when you’re nursing? I still have a lot of research to do before becoming a mother. In this age of information overload, it can be hard to sift through all the myths and misconceptions to get to the truth. I just want to do what’s best for my child, so if that means no tea, then I’d better start drinking this stash down!

In order to further this goal, here’s another SIPDOWN! This swap sample came from Indigobloom. I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to get to this one. I was on a matcha craze a while ago. I couldn’t get enough!

Wow, this one is SUPER frothy!! Hmm, the taste is surprisingly floral. Like really floral. It definitely tastes like blueberry, but it also tastes like flowers. If God made a blueberry flower, that’s what this matcha would taste like I imagine.

I gave some to my budding tea drinker husband and he agreed it was very perfume-y. Neither one of us liked it very much. Could it be age? It was stored in an air-tight container and was still very green. Hmm, I’ve really liked some of the other fruit flavored matchas, but this one just tastes too much like flowery perfume for me to find it drinkable. Oh well. Thanks to Indigobloom for sharing!

Good tea review! Good luck with pregnancy and trying to get pregnant! :) I am currently pregnant and my husband and I had the baby fever a year ago! I am 28 now. I still drink tea, but limit myself to 1 black tea and 1 green tea per day at most. I know I can only have about a cup of coffee per day or 150mg of caffeine per day at most according to my OB. Unfortunately, a lot of herbs and additives, such as cornflower that are found in tea blends, I can’t have. I am not sure about nursing though. That would be good to know! Hopefully someone else has some insight. :)

Indigobloom

I found it super flowery as well, and it was a bit fresher then! I got more of the same from a few other RL matchas as well. Strange!

Uniquity

Caffeine is generally considered a no-no but SO MANY things are unnecessarily demonized for pregnant women. Talk to your doctor (when the time comes) and do what you feel comfortable with. I actually don’t ever want to be pregnant but I do want children and have had baby fever for a few months now. It is tough to correlate those two…On top of that, I get married in a few weeks and people are constantly asking when we will have kids. Can’t I just get a little person without the pregnancy? If only adoption were a move feasible option.

CHAroma

@Uniquity, I know what you mean! I think we were engaged all of 10 minutes when one of the grandparents asked us when we were going to start having kids. During our marriage ceremony, the Pastor mentioned something about “if it’s God’s will to give them children…” and then multiple people made speeches about us bringing more good people into the world at the rehearsal dinner AND the reception, etc etc. My dad came up to me during the reception and said, “What’s all this talk about children?” I said, “Well, we do want kids eventually.” LOL! There’s definitely a lot of pressure.

Also, if you want to adopt, then DO IT!!! I think that adoption is the most selfless thing you can do with your life. I’ve always wanted to adopt, but my husband doesn’t share my views and really just wants children of his own making. Maybe I’ll be able to change his mind one day. I’m a huge advocate of adoption. If you want it, I hope and pray it works out for you.

Shmiracles

i think adopting is amazing!

Uniquity

It is a weird thing to say but I would never qualify for adoption by my finances or my living situation – but of course if I had my own ‘naturally’ no-one could say I would be un-fit. I have wanted to adopt ever since I was a child myself. I’ve never been too interested in the pregnancy business.

CHAroma

I would encourage you to keep trying. You’d make a great mommy! :)

Kittenna

I have massive baby fever… but I’m not at all in a position where having kids would be a good thing! I intend to be married and employed first, so gotta put things off at least a few more years! Sigh.

CHAroma

I hear you. I’m finally married and employed, but it still feels like there’s so much to do! Pay off debt, get a safer car, organize the house and throw out stuff, the list goes on and on.

Dreamy, creamy, caramel goodness!
Can one become addict after drinking this once? I think I am!
I just got this in the mail today and had to open the bag for a look. This wonderful caramel and butterscotch aroma blew me away. The Matchaccino mix is also such a beautiful vibrant green. I closed the bag back up because my boyfriend was working on a project and I wanted to wait till he was done to make us both a frappaccino. I guess I must have inhaled some of the fine powder and it coated my nostrils because the caramel goodness followed me everywhere!
Finally he finished his project and I pulled out the blender. I poured in 8 oz. of cold lactose free milk, 6 ice cubes, and a heaping scoop (came with the matcha) of the matchaccino powder. Then, I blended it smooth and poured it into two short glasses.
Boy, have I been missing out on something wonderful my whole life! My one and only time trying matcha was last week getting the green tea frappe at Starbucks in anticipation for my Red Leaf order. Ummmmmmm, I will never drink the Starbucks version again. The Red Leaf blows them away in flavor immensely and does not put you into sugar shock.
The caramel flavoring is very natural tasting, just like eating a SugarDaddy pop. I chose the robust flavoring. The matcha is very mild, earthly, like fine green grass with absolutely no bitterness. I chose the imperial grade matcha. I know that grade maybe overkill for lattès and frappès but I was really afraid of getting a bitter matcha that might turn me away from matcha all together due to really never having it before. I feel much more brave now to branch out on more grades due to the absolute best experience I had drinking it today.
I can’t wait to try more flavors from Red Leaf! I have a traditional matcha set with plain matcha on its way and I am now even more eager to try.
Somehow, I am going to have to fit drinking this caramel goodness in daily. I actually feel more energetic and high spirited and I am attributing to the matchaccino!
You can get this scrumptious caramel Matchaccino at Red Leaf Tea here:
http://www.redleaftea.com/matchaccino/caramel-matchaccino.html

Also, my boyfriend’s response was “I could drink this. Much better than all these other girl teas you have been making me try.” I have been having him try all my new teas! What a good sport.

Sil
