Oof. Rushing back to work this morning after my weekend out of town and I’m really dragging. A hot matchaccino latte seemed like the easiest option before work. I know exactly how long to microwave the milk to get it just warm enough and I use half a scoop of mix and whip it up with a small french wisk. Tasty and fast and easy! rushes off
Much delayed tasting note, heh. I had one of these this morning before heading out for the day. It was delicious as always! Today is my birthday and I had lunch went shopping and got a pedicure with my mom! While we were out I took advantage of my free “whatever the heck I want” for my birthday drink at Starbucks (just register a gift card on their website and you can have one too!) Anyway, it ended up being a huge Venti caramel crunch frappe with soymilk and an extra shot of espresso, so I am WELL caffeinated for the rest of the day. Cracked out even!! boing boing boing Anyway, my sweet husband got me a Butiki gift card for my birthday so I CAN’T WAIT to place my birthday order! :D
Happy Birthday! … belated where you are… but it’d still be your bday for another couple hours if you were in HI :)
Peanut butter, apple, and matchaccino snack! http://t.co/Au97oAdE3w
Ok, prepared as a blended with ice latte for breakfast this was astoundingly good! The texture is JUST right!!! I also have the coconut flavor of this and it’s to die for. Seriously recommended! And so easy!

I have been really looking forward to trying this! I made my first one at work today, so I did not have access to a blender. I took a mason jar with a scoop of the mix and when I was ready to drink it I added around 8oz of milk and shook vigorously. The caramel flavor is AMAZING! There is a slight chalkiness, but I’m going to blame that on me not preparing it according to package directions. I’ll try one this weekend with ice in the blender! Also I’d like to note that this is extremely sweet for me. It seems about the same sweetness level as a Starbucks green tea frappe. I normally drink my matcha lattes with probably half this amount of sugar. No biggie, I’ll just add more milk next time and I think it’ll be PERFECT! :D
Oooh, thank you CrowKettle! I have a few matcha samples to try out and I decided to start here! I took about half a tablespoon of matcha and mixed with 2oz hot water, then added ice, 5oz of milk and I shook it like crazy.
The result? This is pretty good. And different. And strong. I can definitely taste the matcha, and the creaminess. Did I get the proportions right? I don’t know. I do know this was easy to make and quite tasty so I think that that’s the important thing here.
Preparation
I have been drinking this on as cold shaken in water bottle. But I thought I better try it hot, not sure why. Just so I could fully appreciate it I guess.
I brewed it traditional, in hot water, and as a latte. Hot, this matcha tastes much more nutty. There is a very light watermelon taste. It is still sweet without having to add any sweetener. There is much more of the green tea matcha taste when it is hot vs. cold. The latte and the traditional brew taste almost the same, with the latte obviously being more creamy.
I prefer this one in a cold shaken method. To me, it just doesn’t seem right to have watermelon hot.
I had this one as cold shaken in water this morning again. I added a bit of sugar this time to see if it made any difference. It didn’t really need any sugar as it was sweet plain, but i thought I would see if it changed the flavour profile at all. Yesterday I found there was a caramel type flavour to this matcha, and when I added the sugar, it brought out more of that caramel taste. It still had the watermelon candy taste but was blunted by the caramel. Made it the a bit creamier. It is good either way, but I think I prefer it without the sweetener.
I got this one in basic grade and robust flavour.
On first sniff after opening the package it is delicious watermelon scent. Almost like watermelon gum or candy. It almost has a caramel scent to it. Not sure if it is supposed to have that or if there has been some contamination.
I made this one a cold shaken in a water bottle. No sweetener added. It is absolutely delicious. Very refreshing and thirst quenching. It tastes like watermelon gummy candies. Not quite authentic watermelon but also not overly artificial either. I get a bit of a creamy, caramel type flavour in the aftertaste, but it is not bad.
I would be interested to to add a bit of sweetener to see what it does to the taste. Also, not sure if ts one is going to be good hot, but I will give it a try anyway.

A yummy Matcha. A bit sweeter than I expected … I expected a tarter apple flavor (like Granny Smith) although there is a crisp tartness to this, it’s much sweeter than I thought it would be. Perhaps it is the combination of the apple notes and the Matcha that soften the tart notes of the apple a bit.
It’s still really delightful. This is good in smoothies (I’ve had a few of them over the last couple of weeks!) and it’s also good mixed with the caramel Matcha! YUM!
Shout out to Starfevre for this sample.
My exact text to my girlfriend upon receiving the package of samples that Starfevre sent read as follows: “Holy goodness moly this freaking matcha smells so good my dear Lord.”
That also about sums up how excited I am about trying matcha.
I only have vanilla almond milk, and contemplated getting normal milk so I can get a better idea of the flavor, but this blends so nicely. It’s so tasty! I was expecting some horrible mistake made on my part to take place, making the latte taste terrible, but it was simple to do and tastes great. I’m really excited to dig into the rest of these samples.
Can’t wait to start my own matcha collection as well.

My first attempt with this Matcha … when prepared with hot water, I tasted a slight artificial taste to it, and I was a little disappointed. I had high hopes for a Matcha called Raspberry Truffle. The second time I prepared it, I prepared it as a latte, using half water and half whole milk, and this proved to be much tastier. The milk sort of cancels out the artificial taste and it also gives the matcha a creaminess that accentuates the truffle-ness of it very nicely.
Awesome as a latte … not so awesome as a traditionally prepared matcha. Here is my full-length review: http://sororiteasisters.com/2013/02/10/raspberry-truffle-flavored-matcha-from-red-leaf-tea/
Whoops! I did a sipdown of this earlier today (at 109 now – Sil!) and it doesn’t look like I’ve ever written a note for it.
So here goes. I’ve tried this in the blender multiple times, and I’ve tried it by mixing powder into my timolino with milk and stirring it, and I’ve also down the same, but added ice and shook it, and they basically all turned out the same. I never did get that frappacinno consistency but in the end I didn’t care either. It was tasty and it hit the spot.
I think though, in the future, I’d rather just get flavoured matcha from Red Leaf as I typically drink matcha without any sugar and if I can get by without it, why not go that route instead?
I think it’s a great idea though, and I hope Red Leaf sells a ton of it. It’s much cheaper and very convenient compared to the coffee-shop equivalent!
I want to LOVE this. I want it to be my daily matcha that I never ever run out of. But I can’t – It’s awful. I am reading the other reviews and trying to figure out what happened – maybe I got a bad batch? This and ginger (two flavours that I love) are the only two matchas that I wouldn’t order again (and may not even finish).
The first time I tried it I used warmer water and added a bit of coconut milk. I was so turned off by the taste that I didn’t try again until now, months later. But the funny thing is, I blamed the coconut milk; I had just assumed that it was “off” somehow. So today I made it as an iced latte (my favourite way to drink flavoured matcha) without anything added at first. I had to pour it down the drain and start again with a different kind.
The smell and taste are the same – plastic-y, chemical tasting, nothing like coconut (fresh, dried, toasted…it doesn’t matter. Nothing like it!). A few people have mentioned sun screen but I love the smell of sunscreen and would gladly eat something that smelled like it (as long as it was edible) and this just isn’t it. I’ve tried twice prepared two ways – I’ve had a lot of flavoured matcha – so I don’t think it’s me. Did anyone else get a funky batch of this? I don’t even feel like I could put it in a smoothie to keep myself from wasting it. I adore my other flavours from Red Leaf Tea so I won’t let this stop me from trying some new kinds but I am starting to think I am just not meant to find a perfect coconut tea!
I realized this is too sweet for first thing in the morning. Also, I may prefer it cold whipped up in the magic bullet vs as a hot latte using my milk frother.
I’m lowering the rating from 100 because I’m finding it a bit too sweet now for some reason, I prefer the original matcha that I can sweeten myself if I choose to (and I never have, I rarely add sugar to anything I drink which may be why I find this overly sugary)
Still tasty but better as a dessert, not a morning drink. What was I thinking?

Sounds delish!
