drank White Chocolate Matcha by Matcha Outlet

I never did get around to writing a review for this one. it was one of the matchas my pregnant friend passed off to me. I’m not a fan of white chocolate so it would never be anything i’d have ordered on my own. Finished it up today so yay for that. I typically use this as additions to a stronger flavour in my smoothies. Overall? I like the belgian chocolate more but this one isn’t that bad. Just not really my thing in general so no rating.

SIPDOWN! made a latte of this one before leaving the house this afternoon. I really like how the strawberry and champagne mix together to make it feel like i really am drinking a creamy champagne. I suspect this would have been pretty good with just water but i couldn’t bring myself to make it that way today. Thanks again Azzrian for this great combination!

Sooooo i feel bad because this was one of the the 12 days of christmas tea swaps..and uh it’s almost summer. So my apologies to Azzrian! I blame my pregnant friend since i had finally gotten to a point when i was comfortable enough to open some new matchas, and she dumped another 7 full tins of matcha on me. So i had to get through all of those ones before i was able to open this. But the minute i had room to open a new one, THIS was the first one i opened.

I really like the flavour of this one. I don’t think i’d like champagne matcha on it’s own, but paired with the strawberry, this makes for a really nice “bubbly” strawberry flavoured champagne matcha! thank you so much azzrian for this creative take on your day!

Robust, from CrowKettle I.. think this is what I had this morning. Shaken with almond milk, ice, and a little sugar syrup. It was sweet and delicious. The flavour isn’t a strong one, but I like it. I’d probably go for a lighter flavour level, just because I prefer to put a lot of matcha into my drinks, but I don’t want any metallic “flavouring” taste.

This one is a little odd. I don’t know what Royal Jelly tastes like, but I’m assuming it’s a little bit like honey.

This matcha is sweet. Seriously sweet. Or maybe that’s the difference of using regular Silk soy milk VS unsweetened Almond Breeze. It’s like I added honey to my matcha. Really quite good, even though I can’t pick out the flavour quite like I can with the caramel.

I’d share this with a group order, for sure. It’s flavoured but not too much, even though it’s robust. Thanks, CrowKettle!

CrowKettle

I like mixing this one into other kinds of matcha :)

OMGsrsly

I don’t have enough matcha left to do that! We definitely need to do a Red Leaf order. Iced matcha lattes will be amazing in the summer.

I’m nearly out of this flavour so I thought I would focus on drinking it to make room for other matcha flavours!

I whisked it with a dash of hot water, then added more for a cup. Looks like it was still a bit lumpy because my cup wasn’t wide enough. Maybe I’ll whisk, then pour in the future.

Cavocorax

Haha. You underestimate how lazy I am. Cleaning a blender is such a PITA, and I definitely won’t be doing it once I’m back to work. :P

Sil

lol i have a hand blender that i use when i don’t want to clean up

Dinosara

Actually I usually clean my blender by wirring some soapy water around in it. And that’s it! Especially for matcha, which isn’t goopy or sticky. Works well for me.

drank Cheesecake Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Made this one cold shaken, 1/2 heaping tsp in about 6 oz water. It is not as good cold as it is hot. But still delicious. I feel like I’m getting kind of a spice taste when it is cold, like cloves or nutmeg or something like that. Hard to put my finger on it. Still get cheesecake flavour but feels much more watered down when it is cold vs hot. I think next time I am going to try a full tsp and see if that makes a difference.

Edit: Had this one again this morning made with 1tsp of matcha. The taste was much better. Still not as thick and creamy as it is when hot, but I think some matcha flavours are just better hot and seem are better cold.

I had been saving this one forever, not trying it, just keeping it. Not sure why. Now that I have tasted it, I am mad at myself for waiting so long.

I made this one hot, with about 80C water, 8oz cup, 1/2 heaping tsp of matcha, whisked with a fork.

The dry matcha smells like no-bake cheesecake mix out of a box. Once the water hit the matcha, the smell of freshly baked New York cheesecake wafted out of the mug. I didn’t even want to taste it, I just wanted to keep smelling it. Mmmmm.

The matcha tastes like creamy, slightly sweet cheesecake. I think of all the flavoured matchas that I have tried, this one is the most true to the taste of what it is supposed to be flavoured as.

I currently don’t have any other flavoured matchas in my house, but I do have an order coming. I would like to try to mix this one with some fruity flavoured matchas. Not sure if it will last long enough for my order to get here though :)

drank Cola Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Backlog:

As I said in my full-length review of this Matcha – http://sororiteasisters.com/2013/04/01/cola-flavored-matcha-from-red-leaf-tea/ – I’m not sure exactly why I decided to order this except that I was curious.

I’m glad that I was curious enough to try it though because it’s really quite a tasty flavored Matcha. I like the way the two flavors meld. The matcha has a buttery quality to it, and this combines nicely with the cola flavor. I think I might have to get some soda water and give this a try with that. It might also be really good in a vanilla milkshake … sort of a creamy soda matcha tasting treat!

Not bad at all.

Fjellrev

This is one combination that I’m finding very hard to imagine who they’d even be. But you’re making a fantastic sales pitch here. :)

momo

Too funny, I made myself some champagne matcha before settling in to read 2 days worth of tasting notes…I put it in club soda! Your note might have been some kind of subliminal message as I was scrolling all the way down to the bottom first.

drank Pineapple Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Backlog:

Really good! I absolutely love this Pineapple Matcha. The sweetness and slight tangy note of the pineapple melds really well with the sweet, slightly vegetal note of the matcha.

For this Matcha, I chose the classic grade of Matcha with the distinctive level of flavoring and I’m really satisfied with this combination. The matcha froths up a little. I might be happier with some more froth, but, flavor wise, this is really good. And there is a really good balance of the two flavors. I can taste the pineapple, and I can taste the matcha.

There is a faint chemical/artificial note to this … that gives the pineapple a sort of “candy” like taste as opposed to being something more true to the fruit. I don’t notice it so much when I’m casually sipping, but when I’m really focusing on the flavors, I notice just a bit of artificial-ness to this.

Overall, though, it’s really quite tasty.

drank Almond Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Oh yum! I love almonds and almond flavored anything so I was pretty sure I would love this. This is a definite winner! I did the basic grade with distinctive flavoring and love that it’s more of a sweet almond flavoring. I added a little almond milk to it to make it more of a latte and it made it taste even better. So much almond I love it! :-)

Thank you Azzrian for sending me some of this Matcha to try. It is YUM! I had mine as a latte … I found that the creaminess of the latte was a nice match for the sweet, luscious butterscotch flavor.

This was a “robust” flavored, classic grade of matcha, and I think that if I were to order it again, I’d go with the robust flavoring as well, because there was a really nice balance between flavor of Matcha and butterscotch flavoring.

A really delicious Matcha – thanks again Azzrian!

drank Cola Matcha by Matcha Outlet

Yesterday I was a bit disappointed in the cold shaken cola matcha I made. So after reading a few reviews I changed my measurements a bit. Using robust flavoured matcha, I tried 1tsp in approx 8oz of water. This was much better. The cola smell and taste was much stronger. The aftertaste was very specifically the aftertaste that I get with drinking no name brand cola. Much better than with 1/2 tsp.

I also tried this using the same 1tsp in 8oz water but also added a very tiny bit of white sugar, about 1/4 tsp. The sugar actually made it worse. It is like the sugar dampens the cola taste. Not sure how that happens. So anyway. I prefer this one with 1tsp and no sugar added.

drank Cola Matcha by Matcha Outlet

I have been waiting to try this one. I was holding off for some reason, not sure, delayed gratification maybe.

Anyway, the dry matcha smells DELICIOUS! It smells of generic cola, my favorite flavour. I could barely wait to try it, but it was bedtime by the time I opened the package so had to wait until today. Smells very much like cola flavoured candies. I made this one cold shaken for work. I put the matcha mix and a bit of white sugar in my glass water container at home, then added the water at work. The taste is a bit disappointing considering the smell. There is still a cola taste but it is not quite there. It is like you are waiting for the taste to hit and you can feel it coming but it never does. I am going to experiment with some different sweeteners because I think that could help bring out the taste.

Edit: OK so I read a bunch of reviews on this after I drank it. First of all, just to point out, this was robust flavouring. I think I need to try a bit more matcha in the mix. I used 1/2 tsp per 8 oz, which is my norm for Red Leaf matches, but I think I need to try 1tsp. And it seems that most people did not add sweetener, so I will have to try that and keep you posted.

I’m getting near the end of this so I thought I’d better try this with hot water instead of milk because I keep forgetting that matcha doesn’t have to equal latte.

But it should. This one was better as a latte. :)

OMGsrsly

(I pretty much only drink my matcha as a latte.)

This is good, but not strong enough for me I think. I think cheesecake is just too delicate a flavour to begin wtih, but I do think it adds a little to this latte.

I think this matcha works best as a secondary matcha to mix with something else. It was amazing with both the pumpkin and Belgian chocolate so I will keep mixing it in the future to help stretch the life of those other flavours out!

Sil

What’s the flavouring level?

Cavocorax

I think it’s just the regular. These were all the contest prizes so I didn’t have any choice but the pumpkin is distinctive! (Which I’m really happy about!)

Sil

remind me next time you’re over to try the cheesecake i have. i think i still have some robust in the cupboard…it’s delicious lol

Cavocorax

Sounds great! :D

Redleaftea Raspberry Matcha is a very refreshing drink.
I started getting really into tea, and ran across almond flavored matcha on amazon’s website. I tried it, and it actually tasted like liquid marzipan. Sense I liked the tea so much I decided to order more. The card for redleaftea came with my order, so I was able to find the website very quickly! Upon going to the website I was in matcha tea heaven!!!!! There were so many flavored to choose from. I after quite some time chose my flavors, submitted my order and impatiently waited for my tea to arrive.
One of the flavors was Raspberry flavored matcha which is now one of my favorites. Fruit flavored matcha I find to be very refreshing! Also, I am never afraid to push myself staying up late, because drinking Matcha the next day re-energizes me. I can’t believe how much energy I get from drinking matcha. Plus I have never suffered from a crash like so many other things that give energy. I’m so glad I discovered redleaftea matcha. Not only is the costumer service top notch, but they have the best quality matcha tea. You can find it here….

Coconut is my favourite flavour, so I just HAD to pick this one. I got the buy three get one free option. I couldn’t wait to open my new matcha teas to check out the aroma. I was pleasantly surprised since the aroma was of a definite coconut smell. It was the perfect balance between coconut and matcha, so the coconut did not overpower the matcha and vice versa. I gave some to my 13 yr old daughter and she loved it and thought it was the same kind of treat as you would have in a hot chocolate. I found the same balance of matcha and flavours in the other three matcha teas I got from Red Leaf.

stay up until 2am reading fic = cheesecake matcha for breakfast
everybody knows that.
thank you CHAroma!! this was cursing good!!

(i wonder how much longer i’ll be able to hold off ordering some matcha for myself)

CrowKettle

I aspire to order this matcha flavour one day.

Nxtdoor

I aspire to know what to do with matcha period.

Shmiracles

Nxtdoor, i started by requesting a few different matchas in swaps. just to test the waters. and i still haven’t ventured outside of the almond milk latte haha, but just having the three samples i’ve had so far has been a great way to get started. i have lost all hesitation about buying myself some matcha.

Nxtdoor

Do I need the whisk and everything?

Cavocorax

Nxtdoor – if you want to do it properly you do, but I’ve had plenty of people tell me that you can add a bit of hot water to 1 scoop of matcha, and use a fork to whisk it up/break the clumps up. Then you can either add 5oz of hot water, or 5oz of cold milk! When I drink it with milk, I add ice, and shake it right up. When I do it hot, I use my milk frother to try and bubble it up. I still feel like I’m doing it wrong though! Ha. But I was lucky enough to get a few samples to play with from other people!

Nxtdoor

Yah, I have a frother. I need a neutral non dairy substitute. Or maybe if the matcha is strong enough it masks the milk taste. I do enjoy the Starbucks frappuccino, all flavours, really. I know there’s milk in them but they don’t taste like milk. Anyway, were getting off topic. Thanks for the tips!

Shmiracles

just to give you an example of my lazy way (so you can feel confident your method is better than mine hah)
first i put the matcha in a bowl and then add just enough boiling hot water to liquefy it all. making a dense soup or a thin paste type thing. because it is just a little water it’s easy to break up any clumps in the process. then i add a cup of microwaved hot almond milk and a small amount of agave. and stir well. that’s all. it’s probably not ideal. but it’s been very delicious so far.
i also sometimes put it in a jar to shake it hard and blend it. but i don’t have a frother. :)

Cavocorax

That sounds great. Everyone uses almond milk (it seems), but I’ve never tried it!

Nxtdoor

Note to self: buy almond milk. I am excited. Will buy matcha as soon as I enter my next “tea budget period”

CHAroma

Lots of people do seem to love matcha lattes, but I prefer my matcha with 175 degree water. Mmmm! All this talk of matcha is making me want some! I think it’s tea time! (FYI, milk frothers work GREAT to whisk matcha. No clumps! No grit!)

@Shmiracles, Yay! So glad you liked it! This one is amazing. :)

So, even though I have a lot more matcha out there to experiment with, I think this one is a winner! Added to shopping list!

Q: What’s better than a raspberry truffle matcha latte?

A: A raspbery truffle matcha latte WITH a white chocolate macadamia cookie.

Thanks Sil for the generous sample. :)

Sil

i’m glad you liked this one. it’s a bit artificial tasting for me to love, love it but happy it’s got a good home. Also when you make it out here you need to come over and raid my cupboard…there are um a ton of unopened flavours hanging out here

Cavocorax

Sounds good. :D

Gotta say, Sil is very generous with her matcha samples. I think I’ve had a few cups of this by now, and I could probably make 2 more!

It’s so great. Hot or cold. :)
Maybe slightly better hot.
(This tasting note doesn’t mess around).

Sil

Haha well I have lots and wanted to give you room to screw up in case that happened :)

Sil

Oh and try it both cold and hot…and then there’s with milk or without…..

Sil

Plus…when I make a smoothie its anywhere from 2-4 tsps haha

Cavocorax

Oh wow. I should try making it stronger! I’ve just been using the perfect matcha spoon! And I think I’ve tried most of those combos, except for cold and without milk – not too crazy about that idea!

Sil

I should send you some cola flavoured matcha….it’s the only one I’ve enjoyed as a cold + water so far….

Chelle

This one does seem like it would be great hot.
I have yet to try any matcha with just cold water. Thinking the cotton candy maybe a good choice of my matcha to take the plunge.

Sil

chelle…that might just be a good one. toss it in a water bottle with some ice and shake like a mad woman!

Cavocorax

Cola matcha? Odd… yeah I’d be interested in trying that!

So I measured out a perfect matcha scoop of this, put it in a cup and swirled it around with a coffee stirrer. Then I added 4 oz of hot water, and 2 oz of warmish milk from our fancy coffee machine thingy at work. Now: Enjoyed!

I totally butchered it though, didn’t I? I feel like a Matcha Barbarian. This is so good though! I wonder how it’d be if I took better care of it! :P

I also had a scoop of this, mixed with 1oz of hot water, then I poured it into a water bottle with ice and shook it around and drank it that way too. Also tasty, but more like a milk shake.

I can’t wait to learn more about matcha! Thank you Sil for the sample. This is pretty great stuff.

Maybe someday I’ll invest in a matcha whisk so I don’t get sediment at the bottom of my cup.

How do you guys make matcha when you’re at work by the way?

Fjellrev

You so did NOT butcher it! Hey, if it tastes great, then it’s all good. :)

I never make matcha at work/school. Just not worth the hassle.
