drank Earl Grey by DAVIDsTEA

Tonight I’m having my standard cup of English Breakfast (I should really try something new but I finished my exams today and I’m in full relaxation mode, and relaxation mode means “don’t fix what ain’t broke”). However I did discover a recipe for Earl Grey Tea cookies!

I just took one batch out of the oven and they’re tasty. And the best part is they go perfectly with tea! The Davids Earl Grey adds some seriously delicious flavour.

If anyone wants to try out the recipe it’s here: http://www.shutterbean.com/2009/earl-grey-tea-cookies/

I’m newly obsessed with anything Earl Grey, so those cookies sound delicious!

Just a small cuppa before my last exam. The smell is amazing – like summertime camping.
It’s definitely creamy and delicious – I’m not tasting too much chocolate but definitely the marshmallow. I only steeped it for 3 minutes, perhaps next time I’ll try a little longer.

drank Fantasy Island by DAVIDsTEA

Well today I made a quick trip to DavidsTea (even though I told myself I had to study and couldn’t go until I was finished writing exams). They didn’t have a lot of what I was looking for today but they had me smell Fantasy Island, which I could’ve swore I already had in my cupboard. Regardless I picked up a small package of it. Of course I just went to brew some up – low and behold, there is another package in my cupboard!

It’s just steeping away now. Hmm, halfway through this mug I’m not completely sold. It smells so great dry and pretty good steeped but…the taste doesn’t match the smell. Every time I take a sip the smell hits my nose first and I feel like I’m on a tropical island, but once it hits my mouth – not so much. It seems a little lacking in flavour. I will have to try some cold before I give this one a rating.

Update: Yesterday I tried Fantasy Island and wasn’t over the moon about it. I’m just boiling the kettle now, and I’ll steep it a little longer (I tried 4 minutes yesterday) to try it as an iced tea. I’ll put an update once it’s nice and cold!

Update: Well I much prefer it as a cold/iced tea. Still more to the smell than the taste but a definite improvement over yesterday’s hot version!

I picked up 30g of this one last week at DavidsTea. Just boiling the kettle now. It smells pretty great dry – minty yet almost creamy.

And steeping (4 minutes). Already on my second cup of tea and it’s not even 8am – joy.

Usually I reserve minty teas (especially peppermint alone) for upset stomachs but perhaps this one will put me in the Christmas spirit :)

Update: Pretty good, seemed to be more so than anything else, a peppermint tea. I added a drop of milk when I had about half a mug left which was still pretty good. DavidsTea says it’s energizing and I’ll give it that. Perhaps not in my permanent collection but for someone who likes peppermint definitely a must-try.

This has been my tea of choice the last few weeks (actually it’s been my tea of choice forever, but much more so in the past few weeks). It’s exam time and every morning I’m up before the crack of dawn at my computer. I love black tea and this one seems classic to me. A great morning tea (although I’ve been drinking it all day lately), and a wonderful start to the day. Once my exams are over later this week I’ll be off to DavidsTea to refill my stash.

Bio

A few of my favourite things: animals, the ocean, science (I’m currently doing my MSc in biology), travel, all things summer, and of course – tea!

I love chatting biology, so feel free to ask me about what I study or follow my instagram @biologistcourtney!

I love black teas and this is what I’m usually drinking. I pretty well always drink my tea without anything added.

I’m also fond of herbals, oolongs, and subtly flavoured greens. Whites are also enjoyable, and I’m always looking for a replacement for my all-time favourite Butiki’s White Rhino.

Pu’erhs, rooibos (specifically red, I’m more open to green), honeybush, and matés are not my favourite. I tend to avoid them altogether unless others find them so amazing they shouldn’t be missed.

Likes:
Creaminess, toffee, cacao (true dark chocolate flavour), coconut (true coconut flavour), and rhubarb. I’m open to flavoured teas but they can’t be cloying or fake/candy like.

Dislikes:
Any smokiness at all, bergamot, flowers (rose and jasmine), hibiscus is hit and miss.
