Sipdown!! (170)

Well this came in the package I received from OMGsrsly just a few hours ago and it is already gone. Tbh though, I was sort of underwhelmed. Perhaps it is my high expectations of Butiki teas or all the hype this tea received for being so unique, but I was sort of disappointed. This is not to say that the tea was not delicious, it was, but had I not known the name of this tea, I am not sure I would have guessed it. I did pick up on the potato but there was no indication of the “applesauce” except for perhaps the sweetness in the cup. Even the potato flavor was a bit mild but a pinch of salt helped to bring that out. All in all, this cup was fun to try but I am satisfied with just the one cup to taste. Thank you OMGsrsly for letting me try out this tea!! You helped satisfy my curiosity :)

Sipdown!! (171)

Dexter3657 sent a sample of this my way to try. It is mostly like drinking a hot glass of water with a subtle hint of cucumber. Realistically this makes sense given that cucumber is a mild flavor. All in all, it is not a bad cup, just not very exciting so I probably won’t be ordering this any time soon. I am definitely glad I got to try it though so thank you Dexter3657 for your generosity.

So I decided to wind down the caffeine consumption so I am moving on to white teas. I don’t usually reach for white teas and when I do, there are certain ones I tend to grab. Noneheless, this is a tasty cup. It is floral but not perfume-y. It is simply a nice, calming cup.

drank Pineapple Matcha by Matcha Outlet
5272 tasting notes

So I read a few reviews where people said they mixed matcha in cold water and so I decided to give that a try. I figured a fruity tea would probably taste best this way and since Sil gave me such a generous sample of Pineapple matcha, I figured this would be the best choice.

I used 1 tsp in a 500 mL water bottle and though this is a very juicy drink, there is also a slight saltiness and artificial quality to the drink that I don’t get when it is made in hot water. With that in mind, I probably won’t be having matcha like this again. Nonetheless, it is still fairly tasty and I am pretty sure I will be able to get through the bottle. Plus, I still have one 1/2 tsp left of this matcha to enjoy hot. Thank you Sil!!

drank Strawberry Zabaglione by 52teas

Sipdown!! (164)

So this tea is different yet again today. Some days it is amazing and other times just okay and I think for that reason alone I probably won’t restock. This cup is far more custard-y than usual and that is causing me to miss the sweet strawberry to balance it out. Instead, the strawberry flavor is very mild. It is not a bad cup, just not as tasty as the last one I had a couple days ago – this is probably due to my steeping parameters being a bit different this time around however if a tea is that picky, I probably won’t bother with it again.

On a completely different note, is anyone else having problems today with the site? My dashboard does not seem to be updating and I am getting no notifications which just does not seem right. I am sure everything will be running smoothly in no time but I thought I would ask.

Sipdown!! (166)

JennyFur sent this tea my way and I had made it once before however it had gotten cold before I could try a sip. Today, I was able to taste it hot and tbh I was not a fan. I think the key to a great chai is balance and this, despite everything in the mix, tasted like liquid cloves. Usually I enjoy the taste of cloves but this was over-the-top. There was no pumpkin (or really any other flavor) to be found other than cloves and for that reason, this actually went down the drain. Sorry but this was a miss although thank you JennyFur for letting me try it!

Thank you QueenOfTarts for sharing this tea with me. I have wanted to try this since joining steepster as it is positively reviewed by all.The pu’erh in the first steep is slightly strong for my tastes but I think this tea improves with each additional resteep as the pu’erh mellows and the cinnamon bread goodness is able to shine through. I think it is a delicious cup but I don’t think I will be replacing it anytime soon as there are just so many other teas I reach for first. I am definitely going to enjoy this last little bit while it lasts though.

drank Caramel Matcha by Red Leaf Tea

I don’t know what it is about this particular cup today but having 1/2 tsp of the sample Sil gave me in a glass of cold milk is really hitting the spot. It is so caramel-y and deliciously sweet – it almost tastes as though I put melted caramel in my cup as the flavor is that spot on. This is tasting like an amazingly decadent afternoon snack. Thank you Sil!!

ETA: The first cup was so tasty that I decided to have another. That makes this yet another sipdown!! (165)

Sil

glad you enjoyed it!

MissB

I had this yesterday. So good!

VariaTEA

I definitely did. Thank you Sil! And MissB, I am glad you liked it as well. I didn’t enjoy it made in hot water but it makes for a tasty snack in a glass of cold milk.

Sipdown!! (168)

I received this a couple months back from Dexter3657 and it was the first tea I reached for in the swap package. At the time it seemed so different and unique to me. Since then, I have tried many teas but this one is still unique.

It is a very fudgey tea – thick and chocolate-y. There is also a mild taste of Peanut Butter which adds a hint of saltiness to round out the cup. This tea definitely makes for an interesting treat. I don’t think I will be ordering any of this tea but I am certainly very grateful to have gotten to try it and enjoy a couple of cups while it lasted. Thank you Dexter3657 for sharing with me :)

drank Mulberry Magic by DAVIDsTEA

I was not planning on finishing this tea anytime soon but now that I have 200 g of my precious Pistachio Cream, I feel it is okay to drink this down. I don’t think I need two different Mulberry leaf teas in my cupboard. So after this cup, I have about one more cup worth of this tea to polish it off.

As for the taste of this tea, it is surprisingly nutty. I did not know what to expect when I first tried mulberry leaves but so far I have been quite pleased with the taste. This tea is nutty, creamy, and smooth. A pleasant tea for any evening :)

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
