Decided to have this in a cold glass of milk. I am actually enjoying it quite a bit today. The raspberry is really shining through and the milk helps to enhance the creaminess. Yum!! Sil, I really can’t thank you enough for your generosity. I wonder how the strawberries and cream compares = perhaps I will have to pick that up in a future order.

drank Browncoat Genmaicha by 52teas

Yet another green shared by JennyFur. This one is better than the Cherry Marzipan as it is not bitter. Mostly it tastes of Genmaicha which is obviously a good start. Also, I am aware of another flavor on top of the Genmaicha but had I not known it was chocolate, I am not sure I would have guessed. I don’t think I will struggle to finish off the sample I have but I also don’t think this will be something I order. I would much rather spend my money on Frank’s super delicious Marshmallow Treat Genmaicha. Nonetheless, thank you JennyFur for giving me the chance to sample this tea.

drank Cherry Marzipan by Tea Forte

So yesterday was about sipdowns but today I am trying some teas I have gotten from swaps within the past month or so that I have yet to try. That also seems to have translated into a fair bit of green tea today.

Anyways, up next in my swap tasting is Cherry Marzipan, sent to me by JennyFur. The smell of the brewed cup is pretty spot on to the name. Alas, the taste is not quite as accurate. I am getting some bitterness from the base combined with an almost medicinal cherry. It is a strange combination of sweet and bitter. Thank you JennyFur for sharing but it seems as though me and TeaForte teas are really not that compatible. I am glad I got to try it though.

ETA: After the tea cooling a bit, the cherry has taken on more of a hard candied flavor and their is a slight marzipan taste however it is still coupled with the bitterness of the green base.

Courtney shared some of this tea with me and it definitely makes for a pleasant cup. I don’t think this is anything overly special so I don’t think it is something I would go out of my way to buy. There is not much tart flavor nor is there any vegetal taste from the green base. Nonetheless, it is sweet and mildly flavored and I will enjoy the rest of the sample while it lasts. Thank you Courtney!!

Sipdown!! (165)

Just finished off the sample JustJames sent over. This tea will be missed but I don’t think I will be restocking. I find that though this is always tasty, the flavor changes each time I make it. You never quite know which flavor will shine through in each cup. Personally, I enjoy the combination of vanilla and mate but this one is leaning more to the mate side. Not bad, just different than the last cup I had that was perfectly balanced. Still this is one delicious blend and it will be missed. Thank you JustJames :)

I have said many times that floral teas are not for me. However, occasionally a floral tea comes along that is simply an exception to that rule. This is one of those tasty exceptions. This is a beautiful cup of tea. Vanilla, blackberry, flower – all swirling together to make a tasty cup. This is sweet but in a delicate sort of way that is often associated with wonderful French treats (think macaroons or Paris Brest). It is a tea like this that invokes visions of sitting outside a Paris cafe in the moonlight sipping on a delicious cup of tea while the Eiffel Tower sparkles in the background. Thank you JustJames for sharing such a great tea with me :)

Cavocorax sent me a sample of this and I think that perhaps floral teas are just not for me. The combination of sweetness and floral in this cup is just not working for me. Thank you for sharing with me though :)

Sipdown!! (166)

Another matcha gone. Sadly, I am quickly running out of my matcha. I plan on restocking but I am waiting to see if my review qualifies for a reviewers discount. Does anyone know how long it usually takes for Red Leaf to get back to you?

Anyways, having this in a cold glass of milk. It is a sweet, tasty, matcha version of chocolate milk. Though it may not be as richly chocolate as chocolate milk, it also doesn’t have the calories so that is nice. For all intents and purposes, it does the trick of satisfying my cravings. Belgium chocolate matcha, you will be missed! Thank you Cavocorax for so generously sharing with me :)

MissB sent this my way and in the bag it smelled so sweet and so tasty. It almost smelled of fruit punch. When I took my first sip, there was something I immediately did not like. I checked out the ingredients and pinpointed it right away – hibiscus. I don’t understand why tea companies insist on throwing hibiscus into almost all of their herbals. The teas always smell sweet and then the hibiscus always adds a tartness that makes me just a little bit sad. Nonetheless, once I realized what was making me unhappy, I was able to try looking past it to try the other flavors. I am liking the plum in this however I think the cinnamon is adding a woody-ness that is also not for me. All in all, I am glad I got to try this, and I think I will get through the cup, but this is just not for me. Sorry MissB but this was a miss however thank you for letting me try it out.

Oh no. Well, now I know to avoid sending you anything with hibiscus in it. Hopefully the next tea is better!

VariaTEA

Most of them have been quite great. It is me, not the tea :P More and more I notice that I am just not a fan of hibiscus in most teas. I do however like Queen of Tarts but I think that is because it is meant to be tart so I am okay with it.

Roswell Strange

(In our last swap, I may have thrown in something local that contained lot of hibiscus… Just a heads up)

(And by may have, I mean that I did)

VariaTEA

hahaha I think my issue with hibiscus is when the teas are fruity and smell sweet and then the hibiscus sneaks in and deprives me of my sweet snack.

Sipdown!! (168)

Thank you OMGsrsly for sending this my way! I actually almost bought a tin of this when I placed my Harney order and tbh I am glad I did not. This tea is mostly a cup of cinnamon. Where is the pumpkin? Where are the other spices? Oh well. I am definitely glad I got to sample this before investing in it as I would have been very disappointed. With that in mind, thank you OMGsrsly for satisfying my curiosity and helping me realize I made the right choice by not buying a lot of this tea.

No worries, I got it from Dexter3657. :) I’d buy it because I like cinnamon rooibos, but it’s fairly expensive for a simple blend.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
