okay, i am upping my rating on this tea as of today. i prepared it in more of a gongfu or however you spell that style, and i am quite enjoying it. the flavors have much more depth and are much more layered than prior sessions. this time, main difference is a nice hot awakening/rinsing of the leaves before actual brewing, a shorter brewing time, and more leaf per oz of water. as i learn, tea just gets better and better! love it!

oh shoot i’m sooo behind on tealogging things! i’ve had this about 18 times since i last mentioned i’d had it, it remains my very favoritest flavored black tea. also i believe my favorite-est iced tea, as well. serving me well this hot texas summer!

i’m really not sure there’s anything that could be improved here. this is one of my few 100%s, but man, it’s up there. maybe even 110%. its GPA is a 5.0. its amp is turned up to 11. it is bliss.

OH yum, this is some tasty tea. i’m not 100% sure it’s not identical to American Tea Room’s Tangier, this one MIGHT be a bit peachy-er, whereas Tangier is pure unadulterated apricot.

Either way, this is delish – so far i’ve been enjoying it hot with a spoonful of sugar. this afternoon i think i’m going to attempt a sun tea jar full to keep in the fridge…good stuff, good stuff.

Man i was really hoping i would adore this. It is quite tasty, black and also with a bit of sugar, but it is lacking a certain….something…that i was hoping to find. Perhaps if i followed those tea latte instructions…if only i had a cappuccino maker! Ah well. I have a whole tin, so i have plenty of time and tea for experimentation. (As i type this, it occurs to me that this tea would make an awesome baking addition…if i could figure out how to accomplish this…)

drank Decaf Mango by Adagio Teas

This was much better than i expected it to be, going by the aroma of the dry leaf. Must say, with a bit of sugar was quite the nice evening cuppa!

Yum! The peachy-ness is on the subtle side, but that is such a good thing, in today’s world of overflavored teas. Had my cup black and hot, and was quite lovely. I love the steeping room.

drank Jasmine Pearls by Steepster

well, this one was an accidental leftover from a past steepster box, and i don’t even remember drinking it before…WOW, this is delicious! usually the chinese non-oolong greens underwhelm me, but this? this is made of rainbows and light and sparkles and unicorns! yet, somehow it ISN"T overwhelming, it is a light light flavor, even if strong. like drinking sunshine filtered through spring green forest canopy onto a dappled forest floor covered in spring wildflowers.

yep, that’s exactly it. darned good stuff. now i need to figure out who made it and where i can get more, coz also? it’s like crack.

drank Decaf Peach by Adagio Teas

i sprung for the decaf sampler from Adagio – and this is my first go at them. HOLY cow this is some tasty tea! i’ve been focusing lately so much on the non-flavored (yet still quite flavorful!) teas that i’d forgotten how delightful a nice fruity black tea can be! this cuppa is NOM with a spoonful of sugar and a splash of 2%. yum yum yum.

Flavors: Peach

Boiling 3 min, 0 sec 1 g 12 OZ / 354 ML

drank Lapsang Souchong by Steepster
187 tasting notes

as it turns out, i don’t like Lapsang Souchongs. i thought this one might be better, considering the source, but i think it’s just me. do not like. but then, i don’t really like smokey flavored anything, really. except beef. and pork ribs. but smoke where it doesn’t belong? ew.

ON EDIT: 2nd steeping was a tiny bit milder on the flavor i’m not enjoying, but only a tiny bit. i must say, this is an incredibly smooth tea, considering, and lush and deep and full, but that smoked quality just. ugh. can’t get over it. no third steeping for me!

brewed as per directions on Steepster Select packet, April 2014 mailing.

I’m with you. I tried to have an open mind, but my mouth didn’t cooperate.

I highly recommend doing a ‘quick rinse’ of the leaves of a strongly smoked tea like Lapsang Souchong. I pour the hot water over the leaves for 15 seconds (well, with this tea I did 20 seconds, but that’s because I seemed to forget what I was doing in that 15 seconds. My brain isn’t functioning yet.) Anyway … a quick rinse of the leaves, 15 seconds in the hot water, and then pour it off and then steep it for the 3 minutes or however long you might steep it. It will still be smoky, but it won’t be as overpowering.

I’ll give it a go. Thanks for the tip!

After re-reading the suggestion, I didn’t want to mislead … the “hot water” that I use to rinse is boiling. I bring the water to a boil, perform a rinse, and then strain off the liquid, then brew as I normally would.
