Got a hankering for this. I need something good while I clean out my tea cabinet. I just went through all of my Adagio sample tins and made keep, trade, and drink more piles. “Drink more” are teas that I seem to remember liking at one point but have only drank once or twice OR teas that are almost done and I want to finish.
I have a lot of tea drinking to do!
I like this one a lot. I had it a restaurant a few months ago and have been wanting to get some of my own ever since. This is a slightly grassy, mostly sweet oolong with a bright orchid taste and a hint of coconut. It smells more like coconut than it tastes, which is fine by me. I love the taste of orchid and violet in teas, and I love coconut, so this is tasty.
I like this tea. I’ve been making it lately at night. It only really tastes good when the water is super hot. Not so great lukewarm or iced. This is what I call a “digesting tea”—as in, why did I eat all that Chinese food so quickly? sips Ahh, now I feel much better!
Preparation
Yuck. The black tea used in this totally ruins it. It’s abrasive and somewhat bitter, and the vanilla is only present in the aftertaste. I didn’t even get the pretty vanilla smell that everyone else has commented on.
Another one dislikes the Vanilla Bean! :( I feel like vanilla is SO hard to nail in tea. Sorry the black wasn’t even up to your liking, either!
Haha, it’s crazy how similar the reviews are for this. SpecialTeas has a Madagascar vanilla blend that’s pretty good, but it’s too sweet for me. I wish I could find something that was like that, but more mellow.
Auggy sent to me Colonille by SerendipiTEA that was really mellow and lovely. I have a review of it, as do Auggy and takgoti. It’s a gentle, subtle type of vanilla, not overly sweet, and mixed with an almost raw cocoa taste that comes from the Vietnamese black base. It’s super-good!
It’s not particularly unpleasant, but it’s not as strong as I would like a Breakfast tea to be. In fact, it’s undistinguished in any way. Maybe I just need a tad more ferocity in my first cup of tea each day. This one seems to lack overtones—no smoke, no malt, no punch, no pungency and nothing distinctive.
I think I prefer stronger teas and flavors in general.
Preparation
It’s interesting to see how wide the variation is in reviews on this. I received a free sample bag with my Mighty Leaf order, but I’ve had this before. It was on my to-drink list for a long, long time, since it gets such rave reviews on tea blogs and ML’s website. I just don’t get it. It’s not as creamy as I always think it will be, the orange isn’t terribly pronounced – in fact, very little is pronounced in terms of flavor. To me, it just tastes like a decent black tea mixed with some muddled flavoring. The aftertaste is very orange, but that’s all I can really distinguish.
It’s still a good tea. It just doesn’t deliver on its promise.
Steeped this for a minute less than I did last time (6 minutes instead of 7), and I like this a lot more. It has more of a creamy vanilla taste to it, I guess from the coconut. The peppercorn is still there, but it’s not nearly as overwhelming with this steeping.
Hm. This one’s interesting. It brews very, very dark, with a burnt orange tint to it. The flavor at the forefront is the spice, mainly the ginger and peppercorns. Then you get a hint of coconut, and finally a hint of cocoa, followed by a lot of spiciness. I’m not huge on spicy, and this may be a bit too spicy for me. Hm.
Love this tea! I bought a big bag of it on sale after receiving a sample of it in a previous Mighty Leaf order. Usually I am not big on coconut but this is a good “unwinding” tea. The taste rolls off the tongue really smooth-like. The scent is great, too. Subtle and soft.
Preparation
I like tea like this, but I think it’s rather tedious to make. Like any powder + water combination, there are always chunks that are left. Probably because I don’t have the right equipment for it; Perhaps I will like it better when I do. Flavor is nice, and it’s nice to be able to mix this into other things, like yogurt.
Preparation
As I said, I am running dangerously low on my Strawberry Matcha and my Mandarin Matcha – going to have to reorder soon, but trying to go through my other Matcha stashes before I get to that point.
I have a decent sized bag of this, because it comes as a mix in 4 ounces. Honestly, this mix is fantastic alone, slightly sweet, nice and frothy and creamy, using just water – You almost get a shake when you make it with milk, and if you use orange juice you get an orange creamsicle matcha shake. All versions are delicious, but I am using it in my protein shake still. Since it is not straight matcha, I tend to use more.
2 scoops Vanilla Dream Protein Powder (use the included scoop)
2 scoops Matcha Latte Mix (it comes with a scoop also)
8 ounces of milk
This is very thick, yet goes down very easily. The vanilla mixes well with the Latte Mix and matcha flavors, though it seems I am missing the added boost of flavor I get from either strawberry or mandarin orange. I should look into adding a fourth ingredient for some extra hidden flavor if I continue to use this.
Enjoy!
Here we go.
As stated: I was trying to make Matcha Shots ala Jamba Juice.
So, I also bought from Mighty Leaf the Matcha Green Tea Latte/Frappe Mix. It is Matcha with filler and sugar and directions on how to make Lattes and Frappes. Using a blender, milk and 1 scoop (1 tsp) of Matcha.
I made it in a variety of ways:
1. Using a shaker (to make mixed drinks with the strainer). 8 ounces of soy milk, two ice cubes and a scoop of Matcha. Shake vigorously, strain into glass leaving ice and foam behind.
This was good, though time consuming. Takes too long to do in the morning right before work, but it yielded good results.
2. Using the Magic Bullet, blend two ice cubes along with milk (I have used soy and organic 1%).
This was good, took up less time (so good for the morning before work), but it was very frothy. I was not upset about this, because the froth/foam was cold from the ice and was enjoyable.
3. I tried this the traditional Matcha route. Blasphemous, I know. But I used hot water and blended (because as said, I do not have the bowl and whisk and I did not want clumps). It was still good, probably more so because it had sugar in it, but it was not traditional.
4. Finally, I have gotten this Matcha mix into protein shakes. I am not suggesting you do this, but I am adding it to strawberry protein shakes, which may sound awful, but I like Matcha and anything will help protein shakes.
Overall, a decent product, good because you get a large amount and it is not that expensive. This is because it is not pure Matcha. I may get some attitude about this, but I feel that if you are trying to make Matcha lattes and frappes among other things, and not pure Matcha the traditional way, you do not have spend so much money on expensive pure Matcha and can get this filler one instead.
I have bought this Matcha from Mighty Leaf. It is typical Matcha, no better or worse than any others I have tried. I made it with hot water. I admit, I do not have a Matcha bowl with the fancy whisk, I am not at that level of sophistication with the Matcha. Yet. What I was trying to do was make Matcha Shots ala Jamba Juice.
So, I also bought from Mighty Leaf the Matcha Green Tea Latte/Frappe Mix. It is Matcha with filler and sugar and directions on how to make Lattes and Frappes. Using a blender, milk and 1 scoop (1 tsp) of Matcha. I have a review for that, but it is not on the site yet and I feel bad posting it on another product.
So until then, this was good Matcha powder.
Running late to a hair appointment, I had to take a travel mug of Vanilla Bean since I had no time for breakfast. I added a splash of milk and perhaps I splashed too much. It tasted milky and faintly vanilla with little tea taste. But it was very hot and I didn’t get to drink it all.
I’ve been on the fence about this hair stylist. The hair cut was not bad but it was not what I asked for and I told her as soon as I saw what she was doing that I didn’t want. I think I will be trying a new one next time.
Preparation
This tea is definitely better on the 2nd steep, no milk. Less strong, bitter.
I forgot to say on my last tealog. I ordered A&D DFT Series 2 this morning! It was getting too low in stock and I was getting nervous I’d miss ordering it before it ran out. I was #24. Carmel, here I come!
I have very little left of rooibos chai so tonight I’m planning to look up someone’s, can’t remember who, stove top chai recipe with milk on the Steepster forum. I remember seeing a good looking one. I’m going to drink it while I watch more of PBS’s Masterpiece Contemporary’s Place of Execution or while I read The Shipping News. Except, I put the burner plates in the dishwasher to clean!! They need to get done soon so I can use the stove.
Preparation
This morning I had a cup of Vanilla Bean with milk with my 10 grain “oatmeal” with milk and honey. I think I could taste the vanilla today, or maybe something that reminded me of vanilla. Still not a favorite, but drinkable. Sometimes I just reach for a bagged tea when tired.
Preparation
Vanilla Bean is one of the few tea I remember disliking the first time I tried it. I’ve largely left it alone since then. The husband and I were in a massive slump at 5pm this evening so I dragged myself off the couch. Vanilla Bean, being a bagged tea, was an easy black to brew to pick us up a moment when we weren’t looking for a great tasting tea. I tried more milk, a shorter 3 min brewing time, and slightly cooler water, looking to reduce the bitterness and perhaps bring out the vanilla. It was a decent cup but still without much vanilla taste. I’m currently drinking a 2nd steep made with both of the bags. Plenty strong enough for a 3nd steep but still a so-so tea.
