Mighty Leaf Tea

So, I had this tea at a restaurant in our hotel called “Rice & Company”.

I swear every restaurant that we went to in Vegas (except for High Tea) carried Mighty Leaf tea; it started to feel a little weird after a while. Normally I probably wouldn’t order this; bagged green tea!? No thanks. However, my tea options were limited in Vegas so I took what I could get…

It tasted fine; definitely nutty and grassy and not overly flavourful. However it did compliment our cuisine really well – I mean, Chinese food does tend to go pretty well with Chinese green tea, right? For what it was, I was happy enough drinking it.

I’ll sum this up in two sentences.

Tastes almost nothing like hojicha.
Not for serious tea drinkers

So I have to admit I was a little wary about trying this tea because I had never had matcha before but I actually enjoyed it. I made it with hot water and the first time I didn’t put enough of the match powder in but once I got the hang of the water to powder ratio I found myself enjoying the taste. The whisking also took me a minute to figure out but it’s very satisfying once you get it to froth correctly. The tea is a very refreshing, healthy tasting drink. To me it tastes like springtime in a cup, which is the only way I can think to describe it.

This is my first time trying a vanilla flavored tea, and it may very well be the last. Way, way too strong and completely overpowers the tea. The smell itself was hard to deal with. I grudgingly finished it as I don’t like to waste tea, but I will not be having it again. And, while the bag satchels are totally adorable (the hand-stitching is super cute), the string absorbs the tea and drives it to drip out of the cup. I don’t know if this was due to user error (am I supposed to take the bag out once it’s steeped? I usually don’t…) but it was annoying to have to keep a tissue nearby to soak up the drippage.

Edit: I’m upping my rating, slightly. As the tea began to cool and I drank larger gulps, it did seem to become more palatable. Still, I don’t think I’ll be getting it again.

Aromas: lemon, orange, grapefruit, floral, mint

Great tea bag quality, I appreciate that there is no staple on the silk pyramid pouch.
This tea has really strong floral notes with hints of citrus, a very subtle chamomile. The lemon zest that lingers is quite pleasant and adds to this tea’s sophistication.

Meh.

It’s good. Nothing special, but it has this going for it; it takes milk well and doesn’t get overpowered, it smells like bergamot and tastes like it, it’s medium/low strength bergamot flavor and doesn’t taste artificial.

Thank you Evol Ving Ness for the share. However’s I don’t think I am this tea’s target audience given my dislike of chamomile. It’s not the worst chamomile tea I have tried and the lemongrass comes out quite strongly but that isn’t a flavor I love and even if it was, it isn’t enough to hide the chamomile. It is always nice to try new things though because you never know what might surprise you.

I’m not fond of this tea…. Actually i really don’t like the taste :(

it has a weird mix of orange, floral, medicinal, and tartness that is not enjoyable to me..

All done! While this is a nice cup of tea, it’s not the amazing cup that i want it to be. Appreciate the share evol :)

Few teas added to my cupboard yesterday courtesy of the lovely evolvingness. So of course, since i’m desperate for new things, they’re on the menu today! this one wasn’t half bad. I never expect much from this company for some reason but this was a decent cup to start the morning. Nothing that i need to keep around but it was a decent “every day” sort of tea.

Pretty decent generic breakfast tea. Nothing to write home about but since it came to me free at work, I wouldn’t turn it down. Robust with a malty edge to it.

Rooibos with a hint of marigold—you can actually taste the marigold! Makes it a touch more interesting.

Chai Tea is my go to at coffee shops and breakfast joints, especially if they have a good one. Making chai at home is an adventure I am still pretty new at. It’s complicated, finicky, and messy. The outcome is god though, and with more practice, I think I could make a pretty good cup of chai, and even an acceptable chai latte.

This specific chai is not bad. A little on the spicy side, as it probably should be. The brew itself I need more practice with, but with time I think this could turn out to be a great mix.

Jet black needles with bits of gold. Pretty. I am guessing that it is a DianHong Gong Fu cha, or Yunnan Gold. The tea steeps up red brown. Punchy—good hit of malt, dark cocoa, and lingering muscatel sweetness. A bit bewildering for my tastebuds—like a mega Darjeeling crossed with an intense Yunnan black. I am currently on steep four and it appears to still be going strong.

Chrysanthemum tea was light in flavor and also not too sweet. It smelled floral, but the scent was not overpowering. If you look at the tea after you steep it you can see the petals bloom.
