CREME BRULEE OMFG! Creme brulee is my fav dessert! My husband made it for me the night he proposed (and a prime rib, barely remember that though)
DRY: Lots of weird orange flakey bits.
STEEPED: brown orange tea, smells of black tea and pumpkin.
TASTE: WHOA! I notice an amazing creamyness right away. Theres a smooth pumpkin taste as well. The black tea is nice too – all perfectly mixed with the other flavors. Very natural tasting pumpkin.
Sweetened with some rock sugar, the creamyness and pumpkin come out more. Also some spice lightly pops out.
WHO’D LIKE THIS: Autumn tea lovers! With all the pumpkin teas out right now for fall, this one is good for someone who loves creamyness! This one also is gently spiced.
COMPARISON: DavidsTea’s Pumpkin Chai – has more spice. Pumpkin tastes a little different and brighter. Black tea base is stronger.
Pumpkin Creme Brulee is less spice, but on the creamy side. IMO, the black tea has a better taste. Pumpkin tastes more natural.
COMMENTS: I dig the creamyness of this tea! Very excellent and the flavors are balanced perfectly!
ARGG, I got so much Pumpkin Chai that I’ve been hesitant to order other pumpkin teas. Pumpkin Creme Brulee is on a slightly different wavelength. I thought it would be more eggy like creme brulee, but still tasty! Either way, very good and I highly recommend this tea… and pretty much all Butiki teas I’ve tried! all sooo good!
Preparation
Thanks out to Rachel Sincere for a surprise sample of this!
I’ve been craving chocolate all yesterday evening and this morning! Hope this tea hits the spot!
DRY: Lots of big chunks of raspberry and chocolate chips! Though, some of my chips started to melt as it was 30c / 85f in my house when I got this tea in the mail. I got mad later in the day and made my husband turn on the AC.
STEEPED: nice amber brown colour. Smells like black tea, tart raspberry and something earthy.
TASTE: Great black tea that is not bitter or astringent. Delicious raspberry is there, with no tartness! Also a nice warm chocolate to compliment. I find the black tea is more up front here, with raspberry and chocolate right behind but still going strong.
Sweetened, the chocolate and raspberry come out to the front – almost getting creamy. I think I like this unsweetened as I enjoy the black tea base more that way.
WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Those fruity tea peeps, I know you are out there! Chocolate lovers too! Also this is a great black tea, so don’t be scared to step up and try it non black tea drinkers!
COMMENTS: MMMmm tasty! Enjoyed this tea to the last drop! I love the black tea in this, so dang good! Having raspberry and chocolate was just icing on the cake! I’ll probably end up ordering this in the future!

Oh, the sweet, tangy comfort you bring. I love you and I need you and you always help to clear my head.
What a day. My poor dog had a rough go of it and ended up going through a million tests and getting diagnosed with a heart condition. We still need more answers though. But, man what long terrifying day.
I figured out that this is my go to tea though
Upping the rating on this one. I love it to much. . . also it contributed to a nice tea drunk today that inspired a FULL duet of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ featuring myself and a coworker in the middle of the day. That alone gives it a few extra points. :)
Officially a butiki fan girl. This is unlike anything ever.
The first sip confused me, not overly familiar with tamarind. It was sweet, creamy sweet. Then this taste came over me that reminded me of a hard candy that I was given at an East Indian restaurant on vacation. A sweet, slightly sour, spice.
Preparation
It’s been so long, oh how I’ve missed you. I was so grateful that my order arrived yesterday just in time for me to take a cup to work. No tea for me today though, my problem tooth is coming out. But therest of my order will be patiently awaiting my return.
Preparation
Thanks to Will Work For Tea for this sample. This tea cements the fact that I need to order from Butiki. Fabulous tea. Creamy, fruity and sweet.
Preparation
I was feeling bored with my collection and I found another sample of this hidden away. Excitement ensues!
Brewed it up with one sugar, teeny bit of milk. Took one sip, too hot! Pick up the laptop… Dog shoves her face into the tea cup and drinks tea… So much for that! lol
I should get ready for my dentist appointment anyway.
Preparation
Oh no, sorry. Hahaha. My chinchilla does that all the time. He tries to climb into the cup of tea and can smell tea from like a mile away.
I spilled some matcha awhile back (from Red Leaf Tea) my dog was all over that and looks hopeful everytime I go to make a cup. I don’t share my matcha :D
LOL! She’s only ever showed interest in Cinnamon Heart by DT before. She didn’t even give me warning.
LOL! The imagery of this just made my day! Sorry you didn’t get to drink your tea, but thank you for this gem!
It’s things like that that make me miss my great dane, Ellie Mae. She had such a humorous personality, & a knack for walking through the kitchen & grabbing whatever she saw on the counter or table en route to the (big) doggy door. It was infuriating, but I loved her, & when she left this world I cried as if I’d lost a child, which basically I had. (I’m teary-eyed now, just thinking of her). A week after her passing a huge black great dane showed up on my front porch! When I opened the door he walked right in! We hung out for awhile,he acted like we were old friends, then I called the number on his tag, & his daddy came & got him. I am certain that he came to tell me that Ellie said, “Hi”.
That is such a sweet story. :*( These are my first dogs of my own. Octane has his dysfunctions in that I don’t think he’s right in the head, lol. Rally is my baby, she follows me everywhere, counter surfs, steals socks and undies, and has eaten 3 couches. But, she is the most gentle creature in the world. She hides under my daughter’s bed and watches her play, she licks your face when you’re upset and she LOVES to spoon. It was only a matter of time before I started sharing tea, she decided it should be now.
This actually tastes like Pistachio Ice Cream! It’s kind of a weird sensation to be so familiar with that taste and experience it in a different way! It’s VERY good and I’ll definitely be placing an order once it’s restocked.
Thanks to Will Work For Tea for this generous sample!
Preparation
WARRAGGHGHHGGHHH! Back from brazilian jiu jitsu friday class, aka get beaten up class. Very tired out, I’ve been staring at Knitpicks.com and dream of knitting pretty socks, a low injury hobby. What the.. last time I drank this tea, it was after a friday jiu jitsu class of getting beaten up. Interesting.
DRY: citrusy mango, yum! Very strong scented with some nice thin slices of fruit.
STEEPED: Light rooibos scent, but nice and fruity coming from a reddy brown tea.
TASTE: Hint of spice with natural mango flavor sweeping my mouth. A little creamy as well. The mango is pretty nice here, great flavor without the mango pit strings in your teeth. The roobios works on the same vibe as the mango, which is great for a non rooibos lover like me.
COMMENTS: There’s cardamon in this? My flavor ENEMY! I’m too tired to fight back, but the cardamon is used very well and lightly here, horrible awful. (I had a horrible experience with cardamon and try and avoid it).
Is this going to be my official post jiu jitsu recovery tea? I’m going back to sipping tea and dreaming of purple sock knitting. Maybe knee highs. Lots of lace.
Preparation
WAHHHH!
I had a brutal Brazilian jiu jitsu practice today. There was a penalty for not getting up correctly (you have to get up a certain way so when you are up you are less likely to get tossed off balance / ready to fight / uses less energy) and if one person messes up, both them and the partner has to sit down and get up properly. Each time, it goes up by 10 reps. So my partner screws up right at the end and we had to do 90 times! WAHHHH! I did it though!
So I’m really busted up and tired out and dying for a good cup of ice tea. I hit the local conveyor belt sushi joint and their cold green tea was oversteeped bitter hell.
I got home and mango was calling to me http://youtu.be/d9wOuSyralQ
I prepared this iced, with a bit of agave. Nice real natural mango flavor and refreshing! Slightly nutty and a quiet background of rooibos. I’m not a rooibos person and found Mango Lassi is a really good iced tea.
I need to try this hot, but Uggg so hot here and I’m too thirsty. I’ll do another official tasting note sometime. Right now I’m going to soak in a heavy salted bathtub sipping this tea, Bai bai!
Preparation
I thought this one was long gone, but apparently I still had a cup’s worth left. So, I enjoyed it last night, making this another sad sipdown. Wish I had a bit more of this one, but I’ll definitely be picking up some leafhopper-bitten blacks sometime in the future. So good.
Ohhhhh tea. How I’ve missed you. I keep noticing that the longer I don’t have tea, the better it tastes when I get back to it, haha.
Anyhow, this is super delicious right now, and I have a few things to log, and can’t wait to get back to writing regular notes (and sending out some owed swaps!)
Preparation
Made some of this to take to work today, and it was nearly devoid of flavour. I did note that the instructions indicated to use 2 tsp of leaf per cup, which I swear I doubled (as I was making it for my travel mug), but I could really barely taste anything. It was quite odd. Just kind of a bland, smooth black. My score on here indicates that I liked it (also, I bought it, heh) so not sure what went wrong! My best guess is that I somehow did underleaf it….
Preparation
I was wondering that too, except I could taste Coconut Pouchong just fine. I just finished this one off and got a bit more flavour out of it, but still very weak.
Hmmm, maybe try steeping it longer. These leaves can handle long steeps. I once forgot about the tea and left the leaves steeping for more than 30 minutes and it still wasn’t bitter.
Sipdown of my sample from Sil (thanks!) plus some from the batch I ordered, all put into a travel mug. I’ve gotta say, this one didn’t take to being put in the travel mug quite as well, although it may have also been that I was using my roommate’s Bodum mug instead of a Timolino (they were already full, and I wanted to take 3 teas!) and I think it may be holding flavours worse than my Timolinos (one of which is still tainted by GMS, and now the Killer’s Vanilla).
Anyhow, I tasted some of that Gui Fei sweetness, but it wasn’t as tasty as my memory told me. I think I’ll pass on picking this up again in favour of the Taiwanese Assam, which is fabulous in a travel mug and must only be better when brewed properly!
Preparation
Ok…. I swear I’m reviewing this tea, brewing up a mate and making a matcha latte and going to work for at least a few hours, if not an all-nighter. Being a grad student sucks, especially when you promised your advisor you’d have all your samples ground by the end of September, only to realize that you still have 116 hours of grinding (at least!) left…. :(
Anyways! Enough whining. This sample was given to me by the lovely Sil during our awesome tea & pizza meetup a few weeks ago!
I honestly am not sure what to be expecting here, as I can’t recall reading anything about this tea. The aroma is a bit chocolatey, a bit “generic black”-y. Wow, is this ever smooth! Definite chocolate notes and… woah, there’s a sort of sweetness in here that I completely wasn’t expecting! A dark sort of sweetness, like with dark oolongs… intriguing. So chocolatey, kind of almost a… buckwheat honey sort of sweetness, and no astringency. This is my sort of black! I do wish there was a bit more chocolate (only because I love that flavour in black teas), but the sweetness more than makes up for it! Delicious! I’d definitely buy this one to drink again, this is pretty good! Thanks Sil!
Preparation
Did you notice some similar honey notes like the Gui Fei? Even though they are completely different tasting teas, both teas have similar honey notes. This is because for both teas leafhoppers are allowed to bite the leaves which initiates the plants healing process thereby producing honey notes.
Stacy – I’ll have to try the two side-by-side at some point, but yes, I would believe that the source of the sweetness is the same, just with the different, eh, tea-making process (to get black vs. oolong). It was quite tasty, and I quite liked it. I swear I’ve had teas before (Oriental Beauty?) that were leafhopper-bitten, but that lacked these qualities.
Daniel – Not as interesting as you think it might be, perhaps. I’m grinding freeze-dried asparagus samples, research for my Masters project. It’s 1pm; I’ve been up since about 2pm yesterday, and gave up grinding for the time being because I’m exhausted and my productivity had sharply dropped. Sigh…

Those weird flaky bits are actual bits of pumpkin freeze dried (that’s the actual color). They were so weird and interesting that I wanted to add them to the mix. They dissolve on your tongue if you eat them.
I’m now going to proceed to lick the sample bag now that you told me!
LOL
Hahahaha. If some flavoring touched the flakes it may taste a bit strong. Just warning you. :D
Pumpkin and nutmeggy! I do like the freeze dried bits more verses the candied or regular dried bits.
Nice! :)
this makes me want to give this tea a shot…even though I’m not a fan of pumpkin…
