Drank a thermos-ful of this while watching soccer (and freezing to death… what is with these temperatures lately?! 7 degrees?? And the wind!) It was delicious and warming (and sweet, with honey), but I drank it waaayyy too quickly.
Preparation
Brought a travel mug of this tea, sweetened, this morning. Guayusa and I still don’t get along terribly well without some company, it seems. Anyhow, it’s tasty but not sitting well, as with everything. Le sigh.
Preparation
Took some of this to work today, sweetened in a Timolino. Strangely, one of the thoughts I had while drinking it was that it smelled/tasted an awful lot like…. pot…. Weird. Either way, drank it and it was tasty. Like GMS, not as good as I remembered, but I gotta factor in the travel mug there. Certainly one of the best flavoured guayusas I’ve had.
Preparation
Another guayasa sample from Stacy!
The primary aroma I’m getting from this cup is minty, which would normally not be something I’d enjoy…. but there’s vanilla too (obviously)! And I like vanilla mint!
As suggested on my little sample bag, I added sweetener (again without tasting the tea first, I’m terrible this morning!)
Wow! This is probably the best flavoured guayasa I’ve tried yet! It’s minty, but the vanilla (and possibly lavender) disguises any of the ick aspects I usually find with peppermint in teas. Granted, it is also sweetened, and that probably helps too, but I’m really enjoying the flavouring here! So this is another tea that at the very least, I’d like to do some more experimenting with. Primarily trying it without sweetener (or with a smaller, controlled amount, if I decide something like that would be allowable).
Thanks for another awesome sample, Stacy!
ETA: Nom nom, this re-steeps pretty well! I don’t think I’ll go for a third, but definitely worth a second! I hate that I’m adding both this one and Good Morning Sunshine to my “must purchase” list (although perhaps I’ll force myself to finish off Apricot Guayasa, which was not my fave, first).
Preparation
It’s spearmint goodness :D and of course vanilla~y goodness! definitely my second favourite guayusa :D
Ohhhhh spearmint! That would also explain why I liked it better than peppermint. I couldn’t read the tea description while writing up my review, and honestly hadn’t bothered to look at what was in the tea.
Stacy – I’m pretty sure I didn’t hate Tangerine Creamsicle either! I should have tried it sweetened. Actually… I think it was a sample from Azzrian, therefore I probably have enough left to try! I just bought some gum that tastes like orange creamsicle, and it’s delicious…
Definitely give that one a try sweetened. You might like guayusas in general a little more sweetened since it seems to tone down the earthiness. Mmmm, orange creamsicle sounds yummy.
Yeah, I think it’s the earthiness I don’t particularly care for the flavour of, and while it does come out even with sweetener, it is far more tolerable. Also, your blends are flavoured much better IMO than my first guayasa, which was DavidsTea’s Jungle Ju Ju… which kind of made me gag. I’m looking forward to my sample of the Cider Guayasa, as it smelled amazing, but I don’t think I need a third cup of it this morning! (Especially since I am feeling awake and alert now… which is some sort of miracle!)
I am waiting for this to cross the pond and pop itself into my cup. I haven’t tried any guayasa (at least not to my knowledge) but as a vanilla lover the name temped me to try it. I hope it arrives soon.
Yay, my Butiki order arrived! Boo, I’m still crazy busy! Was out of the house from 10am-1am today. I’m exhausted…
Anyways, I threw some of this in my Timolino with some rock sugar this morning. It was very lemony and tasty, not quite the way the sample tasted, but certainly one of the best flavoured guayusas I’ve tried. Can’t really say if it kept me awake/energized as I didn’t drink it at such times :P
I keep reading about this tea on here, and knew I had a sample from Stacy… so since I need a kick in the butt this morning….!
I’ve learned that I’m not the biggest fan of guayasa. The flavour just isn’t one I particularly enjoy, although I think that the right combination of flavourings could make it quite palatable, if not enjoyable! Therefore, I keep trying!
Although I know this tea is supposed to be all citrusy, I’m really not getting much of that from the aroma. It smells like guayasa. Boo. Hopefully the flavour is better! (Something sure smells good in my room though… but I think it might be the Killers Vanilla, which is next up!)
I was bad and sweetened this one with some rock sugar even before trying it out, which was probably not the best idea, as I don’t know how the tea actually tastes, now! I can taste the vegetal guayasa flavour, and a bit of a hint of lemon… oh, finishing with a creamy citrusy flavour. The citrus is rather difficult to pick out though, until the end of the sip, which I find rather surprising. Although I must say, this creamy lemony lingering taste in my mouth is a little addictive…
I may have to wrangle some more of this one to try without sweetener. I actually am kind of enjoying it sweetened, although for me that sort of thing is not something I’ll allow myself to get used to… although the guayasa is behaving quite well here, and that may be in large part due to the sweetness.
Thanks so much for this sample, Stacy!
ETA: Also re-steeps well enough for a second go-round. I really adore the citrus flavour in this tea, and can definitely see why people love it! Stacy – any chance you could flavour a white tea this same way??
Preparation
This is awesome! I never add anything to it and I brew usually to the full six minutes for the extra lemony goodness :D
I definitely feel like mine wasn’t as lemony as it should have been. That said, this was a one-cup sample from my first Butiki order, so had been sitting for a few months. Definitely wasn’t contaminated or anything, but could have lost some flavour.
I could always do a custom blend for you. This flavor should have no problem working with a white tea.
Since that type of blend would require ingredients I have, I could do a minimum of 2oz. Really depends on which tea you choose. I think the Malawi White Peony would be awesome for that since has some light sweet lime notes. Though the tea leaves take up a lot of space.
Ooh, that sounds way too doable… I’m dangerously close to managing to make a $75 order on my own even without this (and I keep forgetting my free ounce of tea, too!) Yikes! Would that work out to ~$25-30? I will get back to you…. O.o
Probably about $25, maybe less for the Malawi. Depends on which white tea though. Oh wow, that’s a lot of tea.
I know! I don’t need that much tea! It’s an addiction! I was thinking that if you thought the White Peony would be most appropriate, you would know best. I think I want to try Tangerine Creamsicle once more, but I think I’m addicted to the lemony flavour in GMS…
I guess all 3 teas that I had today were from Butiki!
Once again, I made a latte for dessert and it was wonderful!
See previous notes.
Now I need to go to bed early and hopefully actually get some sleep tonight for a change.
Preparation
Thanks to Stacy for setting up that FB contest. I was so surprised to win the flavoured prize!!! So excited!
NOTE: this is the re-envisioned version of this tea.
This smells amazing. Sweet coconut.
The taste is good. Yummy coconut that is creamy and slightly sweet on it’s own. The rooibos base comes through, and I could see how it can relate to pie crust, slightly nutty with an earthy base to it.
I added a tiny splash of milk to the last sip of the cup. This really amped up the cup and cut some of the earthiness of the rooibos. I think this would be best as a rooibos. I will certainly be trying that next time!
Preparation
Congrat’s on the win! I read how everyone loves this. Wah… it has rooibos so I can’t drink it…allergic…(selfish of me to say so though since I still have lots of tea to drink!) It sounds so good!
tigress_al-A white coconut cream pie would be interesting though it might be more like coconut milk.
Bonnie-Nope, its always been a rooibos.
Oh man, that would be sooo good, you should try it! I would totally buy it. And I bet Bonnie would too!
Guayusa scares me. I had a cup of bare guayusa a few weeks ago and dumped it down the sink. BUT, after only one third of the to go cup I had a huge energy rush. So, today I woke up exhausted and rushed as it was the first time I didn’t set the alarm for my usual 6 am, but 7 instead. So I brought this to work with me. Man is it good! I put milk and cane sugar in it, that’s how I like my morning tea. It tasted almost bubble gum like!
Thanks to Will Work For Tea for this sample!
Preparation
Thank you Stacy for this tea sample!
Who says you can’t have dessert before dinner?
Are you nuts? I’m nuts! Actually, I’m CRAZY about this new tea!
My favorite nuts to bake with are PECAN’S and my favorite syrup is MAPLE and my favorite beverage is TEA and you roll them all together in one cup and I’m done for!
Oh, this is buttery too.
The flavor is very good and sweet enough without adding anything, but I know Stacy. These darker tea’s are best with some raw sugar rocks. Yes! Really the best!
I’m going to try adding a little Lapsang Souchong on a cold day to this tea (make it smoke).
Oh, and drink it alongside a grilled cheese sandwich, YUM! How about alongside chicken…yes, really good….almost like chicken maple pecan waffles but without the calories.
Speaking of calories…I won a Pecan Pie contest during Black History Month (for my kids) and the calories, ugh!
Pecan pie flavor without the calories, brilliant! The prize goes to you Stacy and did I mention there are REAL pecans in this tea?!
You did an awesome job again Stacy girl. I think we girls need a night out! (OK some guys can come too…)
Another naturally flavored, handcrafted with love tea!
Bonnie, so glad you are enjoying this one! I am super impressed that you won a pie contest with your pecan pie! I bet it tasted amazing.
By the way, my first Maple Pecan Oolong customer was my mom. I told her about the tea after I had made a large batch and she asked me to bring a $20 bag worth of it over her house and a sample of it to try. I made her some tea to try and she loved it and I asked if she wanted the bag of tea and she said “oh yeah”. She then proceeded to try to pay me. For like 5 minutes she wrestled with me trying to pay me and stick money in my pockets. I wore her down and told her no and she agreed but when I got home I found $20 stuffed into my purse. Hahaha.
I remember you mentioning winning a pie contest but the pecan pie is winning is new to me. Did you win more than one contest? Yes, my mom and I are a lot alike. Its funny because as a child I remember watching my parents and their parents arguing over who gets to pay the bill and I always thought that was funny but now I do that with my parents all the time.
I started entering contests for a few years and won for the town of Paradise Johnny Appleseed Festival for Apple Pie, Then in San Jose Black History Month for Pecan Pie, then Cinco de Mayo for smoky salsa….hey, I have a multi ethnic family!
You roast mild Anaheim peppers until they’re charred, put them in a blender for a rough chop. Make a chunky salsa (tomato, cilantro, onion and a little garlic, salt and pepper) and add some of the roasted pepper to taste. You can add some lime too, baby shrimp and chopped avacado. If you want hot salsa add jalapeno.
Oh I bet everyone here has their recipe specialties. We could all write a cookbook together I bet. What a great bunch of people.
Ooh, I may have to get some of this for my grandmother. Maple Pecan is one of her favorite flavor combinations! :)
Your welcome. That was a few years ago. The only rule really is to use the best ingredients, no skimping! Real butter in the crust, real everything! It matters!
I never rated this tea?! Crazy! I had a nice amount of this tea also. The leaves are finely ground up. There is barely any bitterness to this, which is good. I like this tea. It is like black tea, but somehow different. This tea is light tasting and perhaps it is because I hadn’t touched it in quite some time. There is a hint of fruitiness and sweetness to it. I can’t really pin it down.
