This has been an exciting weekend for me! Of course, the things I’m excited about might seem odd to the rest of the world, but you, my dear Steepsterites, will understand perfectly, LOL.
First, the HHTTB arrived Friday. I’ve already sample several things & will plan on getting it back in the mail by the end of this week.
Secondly, the BBBB arrived on Saturday! It’s basically a 4 person TTB, focused mainly on full leaf black teas, but with some flexibility. It took about a month to complete the first round, & we’re on our 2nd round now.
And finally, I realized that today is my 1 year anniversary of joining Steepster!!! So I’m celebrating the day by drinking awesome teas! I thought about doing a favorite tea countdown, but the truth is, there really is no #1, there are several, LOL. Also, I’m at Tony’s, so the majority of my tea collection is 5 minutes away at my house.
Luckily I have this wonderful Assam with me, & it IS on my list of #1 favorite teas, so it is my first cup of the day. A lovely cup! A delicious cup!
If I get my act together, I’ll try to post pics of the tea boxes on my blog later today.
If you’re a newby & have no idea what those initials stand for:
HHTTB = Here’s Hoping TTB
TTB = Traveling Tea Box
BBBB = go ahead, guess… ;)
Today I got to meet a new student, along with her mother & sister. They are tea drinkers! Yay!! I made a nice big pot of this tea, & they loved it! There was enough for my next student to enjoy some too. I resteeped at 5 minutes & shared that pot with my final students & my son Leif. There is also a pint left over, which is in the frig chillin’ so that I can enjoy it cold tomorrow.
This is kind of a sipdown, but not really because I have another order of it arriving later today, thanks to Stacy’s Birthday order Bash!
We all love this, so what else can I say?
BTW, my son Leif drank Adagio’s Oriental Spice, which I stole a sip of, so I’m checking it off on the list of teas as having been drank (not a sipdown though). My goal is for all teas to be drank at least once a month, by either myself, a family member, or a guest! I never quite achieve it, but it is the goal! :D
From Taiwan you come
First Cup of this awesome day
Malty Sweet & Rich.
Happy Birthday Stacy!!!!!
I’ve decided to drink Butiki teas all day to honor our lovely & beloved Stacy’s birthday! Here’s another Haiku:
Crazy looking leaves
Aroma of fruit and malt
Cup of awesomeness.
This was my first cup of the day, hours ago.
After drinking that cup, we went out to breakfast at our usual haunt, where I slurped down a couple of cups of Numi’s China Breakfast.
Once we got home, I resteeped my original cup. Ahhh, there is nothing like awesomeness!
I’m starting the day with a cup of this, which will include resteeping as well. We’ve all written tons of favorable reviews regarding this wonderful tea, so I feel there is nothing I can add this morning (plus it’s early…for me, anyway). Delicious, malty, chocolate & spice.
This is definitely on my short list of Most Favorite Assams & on the list of Most Favorite Black Teas as well. Bold, Malty, Sweet, & Spicy, it really satisfies me this morning, & I’m even getting a bit of a butteriness to it today! I don’t think I’ve noticed that before! :D
Oh, I have missed this tea!
My Butiki order came a few days ago, & I think sometimes you don’t realize how much you miss something until you have it again, ya know?
This is a rich, bold, spicey, tasty, malty Assam with amazing looking leaves. So good to be drinking this now! I’ve been on an Assam jag lately, & this one is SO satisfying!
Getting ready to head out the door to play an early morning gig, with a cup of this in hand. I love the body of it, the depth: malt, a little chocolate, spice. A morning cup to enhance my playing, & I’m gonna need a little enhancement, as I bumped my middle finger yesterday (right before my gig) and split the nail, painfully peeling it back a bit. I trimmed it as far back as I could, but it kept catching on a string & ouch! I had a few bandaids in my purse, but they don’t stand up to harp playing very well, so neither lasted very long.
I have a 2 hour gig this morning, & a rehearsal tonight. I have a roll of white bandage tape in my purse, the finger is wrapped to protect the nail, & although it’s throbbing, “the show must go on!”
Happy Thanksgiving (Gratitude Day) to everyone in the World!!
I know Thanksgiving is an American holiday, but I hope everybody everywhere has things to be grateful for everyday. I think it’s important to take a few minutes at least once a day to be grateful for all that I have, all that I am, and all that I’m yet to be, and to wish for wonderful things in the lives of others as well.
I started my day by making 3 pie crusts, all gluten free. One is for a pie that I’ve made for years called Chocolate Midnight (Originally Chocolate Almond Midnight because of a praline almond decorative topping I omitted, from the vegan Millenium Cookbook) It’s the most decadent chocolate cheesecake textured pie you’ll ever eat, and you’ll never know it’s made with silken tofu. I know you don’t believe me, if you’ve ever had a silken tofu ‘fail’ dessert, and believe me, when I was a vegan (for years and years), I tried my share.
Baby, this is the real deal, and many people have fallen in love with this pie, not knowing the tofu truth, and once they found out, they didn’t care, it’s that good. It’s requested by several people every year & is a required part of our family feast. This year I took the gluten out of the crust.
I’m in the break, between crust making and pie filling making. I had a hearty breakfast and my last cup of Stacy’s Taiwanese Assam. I’ve reviewed it several times, and it is bold and tasty, but now it’s gone. I foresee a Butiki order coming soon.
Oh, yeah, you want it!! It’s ridiculously creamy & chocolatey and sweet too. Very rich tasting, I can only eat a few bites.
The first time I showed up at a family thanksgiving with that pie, it was Tony’s sisters house. Not a single person there knows the meaning of eating healthy (Tony is learning). I made him promise not to tell them it was tofu, at least not until after they ate it. They devoured it! The other desserts all sat on the table, looking dejected.
It’s also easy to make. Let me know if you want the recipe. You too can blow your family away with tofu! Just don’t tell them…

Done!! Now you guys can all go over to the discussion board, where we have a recipe sharing discussion group!
It’s been a little while since I had a cup of this lovely Assam. I’ve had a love affair with Assam teas, they are so satisfying, & this one doesn’t miss it’s mark! It’s a wild & crazy looking tea! Long irregular strands of black with some mahogany tinging, like some unruly sea veggie, & not easy to measure, at least not by the spoonful. It brews a pleasant malty cup with a hint of cocoa, & the re-steep, although not as deep, is nice too!
first steeping: 2 tsp heaping, 3 min
second steep: 5 minutes
Thank you Stacy, for this tasty tea. I now have money in my playpal account (someone bought my CDs! Yeah! www.harpsinger.net), so I’ll be visiting you soon to place an new order!
I’m getting ready to start on my 3rd cup of black tea this morning!
First, I want to say that the dry leaves are wild & crazy looking, & I like that! Dense, almost black with a green undercast & occasional peek-a-boos of mahogany (that seems to be my word of the day), hint of malty aroma. I struggled with measuring it out, as they are unruly, crazy little snakes, unwilling to conform (kind of like me). In the end, I just put some hefty pinches in my cup (probably way more than the recommended 2 tsp)
Brewed, it is what I’m looking for this morning. A deep brown red, bold mildly malty flavor, & with the addition of a little soymilk & stevia, I’m off to bubble bath land.
Breakfast is over, and I’m relaxing in my sun room, sipping this bold tea, still trying to wake up. The color is a dark honey, the aroma toasty, the flavor is not as malty as I’d hoped, but robust & smooth at the same time. A few granules of stevia for the last sips lift the flavors, & I close my eyes: Collin Farrell winks at me & says, “Ay lass, pass me a sip.”
Heading out the door to let the chiropractor work his magic.
I’ve enjoyed this tasty tea! Sil’s post about it reminded me that I was still hoarding the final cup.
First Sipdown of the day!

Glad to see the two of you getting along so nicely ;)
Little terri is just trying to butter her up, lol. We saw an olive tree (yes, the kind the grows real olives that you can cure & eat), & it’s an adorable dwarf that will be perfect with the dwarf kumquat, meyer lemon, & key lime trees that we already have in our collection. Hopefully I can fit it into my sunroom, because after basking in the glory of summer, they all come in for the winter, & it is starting to get a little crowded back there. I also want a ‘tea’ tree, because wouldn’t it be fun to grow your own real tea? I already have a bunch of tisanes in the yard, why not a little tea tree too? I love my little dwarf trees! I ate the last ripe kumquat yesterday, but there will be a bunch of them ripening right around the holidaze, along with the lemons. I have TOO many key limes, I need to start using them more often because that tree blooms like crazy (& has terrible thorns). So, yeah, we’re buttering her up so we can buy that olive tree.
