562 Tasting Notes
In one of my last posts, I referred to the chocolate store that I worked for, and I’m gonna mention it again. The store decided to release flower inspired chocolates. One of them was a lavender chocolate. I had to try it and it wasn’t good. Well, at least to me it wasn’t.
So, when thinking about trying this tea, I couldn’t help but think of that chocolate, even tho realistically, tea and chocolate are two different things. This came as a free sample and this poor little bag as been waiting for me to try it for months.
The coconut/lavender blend is quite nice! It’s soft and smooth. It’s a calming tea that is very nice. I’d definitely get this one again.
So, technically speaking, I shouldn’t be reviewing this tea yet… but I’m going to. haha
I made this tea this morning, but I made it half this and half hazelnut cream (from the Tea Haus).
Many, many moons ago, (okay, only about 5yrs ago) I worked for a Canadian chocolate company. I loved it (until right at the end. By that time I was ready to start a career elsewhere. Sadly, five years later, I still don’t have that career. That fell apart about a year and a half ago. But I must say, it definitely was for the better looking back. That job was slowly killing me. Okay, that’s probably a bit of an exaggeration, but not by much. Mentally it was too much.)
ANYWAYS, so when I was working for this chocolate place, I heard about chocolate covered hazelnuts. I had never been willing to try them before ‘cause I’m not the biggest nut fan and I figured that I wouldn’t like them. But once I started at this company and I was encouraged to try all of the chocolates we sold, I thought I’d give it a try.
That moment forward, I fell in love with hazelnuts. And when they were covered in chocolate, they were even better!
So, when a few of us went together and placed our Tea Haus order, I knew I wanted to try this one and the Hazelnut Cream. I put in one teaspoon of each one into my steeper and did the three minute steep like it recommends. It is delicious! I’m so happy to have finally tried it.
If you like chocolate, and you like hazelnuts, or if you just like chocolate covered hazelnuts, mix the two together. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
I want to try this one on its own too ’cause I have a feeling it might taste just like a hot chocolate with milk and sugar added of course. It already sort of has that taste. :)
Preparation
Once again I was lured into the hibiscus teas. I didn’t realize when I bought this one that it had that in it. (I was too excited about the smell).
This one isn’t even as close to as bad as the last one for hibiscus though. I am finding that the balance of mango to hibiscus is definitely manageable. I’m happy to report, I’m actually noticing the mango flavour!
I have a different mango tea that I do enjoy more, so realistically I probably wouldn’t buy this one again, but it is a nice tea to try.
Again, a friend of mine gave this to me a while ago. I don’t have much of it left, so I figured I better write a review before it’s totally gone.
She made this one for her babyshower and she made it iced! It was really good! I was surprised. At that point in time, I didn’t drink iced tea. I still struggle to drink iced tea, but not as much now as I did then. So, when she said she was making an iced tea, I was leary of trying it. But, I wanted to be polite, so I tried it. I didn’t expect that it would be so good, considering the chai flavour. Most of the time when I think chai, I think hot, not cold.
Anyway, so she gave me a bunch of this one, and I’ve been slowly drinking through it. It is a lovely chai tea. I love the spicy punch it gives. It isn’t as ‘heavy’ as a black tea. It tends to be a lighter chai taste, but that’s not to say that it is weak. The different base just makes it a bit… different.
I absolutely love this one. I’ll have to get more of it once the current tea collection has dwindled a bit. I have far too much tea for me to drink. I must get through some of that first.
I definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a good chai tea that isn’t a black tea base and that wants a good flavour too.
Preparation
I hate hibiscus. I’m ready to fully admit that the stuff needs to go.
I bought this yesterday when I was out with my mom. There’s an amazing little shop only about 20mins from place that has a TON of teas. I had never heard of this one before, so I thought, hey, why not give it a try?
I love the smell of it. COCONUT!!! LOVED the smell. That’s what hooked me!
Taste… :( The poor coconut, apple, pineapple goodness was lost behind the hibiscus. I don’t know if I made it too strong or if I let it steep too long, but the hibiscus was too much. I know this is going to sound weird, but I’m wondering if it’s hard or easy to take all the hibiscus out of it? I’m going to try it again… :(
It doesn’t always work, but sometimes I’ve cold steeped hibiscus-heavy teas and it wasn’t quite as pronounced. Still there, but it wasn’t so tart it makes your eyes water.
I didn’t care for this one hot. I found it to be too tart from the hibiscus.
SO, I’m trying this one chilled! I’ve got it cooling right now. I’ve added some sugar and it looks like it’s going to be a strong one. It is DARK. I can’t wait to try it. :)
Will update once it’s done!
UPDATE: So, I was going to drink this one before I left for work today but I didn’t. So anyway, here I am after work wanting to drink some tea, but not wanting to go through all the motions of making it. hahaha
So, when I said dark, think like red wine dark. I poured a small glass of this into one of my new double-walled glasses and it is DARK. BUT, taste, I love it! I’m so happy that I didn’t give this one away like I had originally planned to. Because it’s so strong and fruity, it almost tastes like juice; a berry juice of sorts. I’m totally loving it.
Given though, as much as I love it, I probably wouldn’t get this one again only ’cause I have other fruity teas that I love even more. And they are teas that I love both hot and chilled. Still, I will definitely enjoy what I have. :)
This one smelt like bubblegum dry. My husband was the first to notice that.
Steeped, it smells more like apples. It’s subtle, but it’s there.
I think I might have needed to add more leaves to this. It seems a bit weak. I did one tsp per cup for 5 mins. I think I might try more like 1.5tsp. The apple flavour that I expected wasn’t there. I’m kind of disappointed a bit with this one. I know it might just be that I didn’t steep it enough, but I dunno. I’m going to have to try this one again before I rate it.
To me, it tastes like a plain rooibos with a hint of cinnamon.
Preparation
I didn’t know that this one was called Georgia Peach. I bought this one, and where I bought it from must have dropped the first part of the name when they made up the label. I just thought it was called Sweet Peach Rooibos, but after looking over this, I’m pretty sure this is the one that I have.
It is a lovely peach flavoured tea. I love the rooibos base with it. It is a very good pairing. I like the fact that it is an almost juicy peach flavour that comes through.
I must agree with the other reviewer here. The DavidsTea Southern Belle (Peach tea) wasn’t good to me. I couldn’t drink it. My husband seems to not mind it too much, but I can’t drink it. So I find that this tea is a very nice one to have on hand. It is just about perfect for flavouring of a peach tea.
I’m just finishing up my stash of it, so I’ll have to get more again at some point.
Preparation
I didn’t do this one justice today. I made it far too weak. I should have added more leaves to it.
But, I do love the combination of chocolate and almond and raspberry flavours. I find this tea to be very unique in itself.
I really wish I had made this one stronger as I really wanted to enjoy this tea properly. I know in the past when I’ve made it properly it always turns out so good. It is a wave of flavours that are just amazing.
Maybe tomorrow morning I’ll try again.
I’m very excited about this tea. I know that I have logged this one before, but I have to tell what happened this weekend!
So, I needed to get away. It’s been a rough year and a half, and I needed a break. So, I went to see my in-laws. I know most people find their in-laws to be stressful or whatever, but not me. I’ve been blessed with the best in-laws I could ever ask for. My mother-in-law and I get along so well. We spent two days together this weekend, just the two of us and we had a blast. I’m so blessed.
Anyway, because I knew I was going to be going down in the area, I called up the Teaopia and asked if they had any of this tea for sale. They said they only had a 1000g bag! And it’s 75% off ‘cause Teaopia is switching over. The price was out of this world awesome, so I picked up a bag. Now I will be drinking this tea for probably a few years and loving every minute of it!
I’m sad to see Teaopia go. The sales are making it less sad, but still sad. I hope that Teavana will be good. :) I’m excited to try their teas.
It’s nice to have a person in your world that is some calm-in-the-craziness. I’m thinking about my person now and smiling.
