Hum. Drank my second steep of this last night, added a bit of coconut palm sugar this time.

That made it taste a little better, but I realized that I’d probably really enjoy this tea if it didn’t have the word “cheesecake” in the title. I don’t taste that at all and given how much I love cheesecake, that’s the ultimate disappointment.

If it was just called Pumpkin Spice Cake or something I’d be easier on it and I’d definitely enjoy it more. I know that’s all subconscious but that’s how my brain works, friends! You call something “Cheesecake” and you’d better deliver the goods!

It doesn’t taste bad at all, it’s fairly yum, but I still like DT’s Pumpkin Chai better, it doesn’t require sweetening and at least it’s true to its moniker.

My rating remains the same!

Bought the sample of this at Davidstea for 50 cents the other day, since oolongs are my new gimmick, and my journey into “straight tea territory” is hesitant – one small step at a time. Seemed like a good way to try this one.

So far, the only other straight oolong I’ve had is also from Davidstea, the Quangzhou Milk Oolong, which I lovvvvvved. I’m hoping someone will take a hint and get me a DT gift card to make my shite 30th bday a little less shite. I digress.

Prep: 92 degrees for five min.

In comparison to the milk oolong, I like this less. It IS good, I just don’t think I would buy it, I’m just not THERE yet. It’s more vegetal, but way less creamy and not nearly as buttery as the others I have tried (flavored ones included), which are the predominant characteristics i love most about oolongs thus far.

Honestly the more I sip, the more I think that if Popeye asked me for a tea recommendation I’d give him this, because I feel like I’m drinking spinach water :/

I am looking forward to trying more straight oolongs (especially milk oolongs) in the future though! If I was forced to drink this as a straight tea I wouldn’t complain, I just don’t ever need to own it….I prefer my spinach steamed with a load of butter, salt and pepper.

I was surprised at how light the tea brewed up based on how potent it smells dry, but it was very flavourful! Definitely raspberry and chocolate. Not sure I would order this for myself but I enjoyed it thoroughly and have a bit left to try at home with some sugar as per the suggestions!

Drinking this again, it’s so good! I already know I love coconut but I might be in love with oolong!!!

When I saw the list of Spring 2013 teas at Davidstea I knew immediately that I’d want this one. Super fruity teas I can almost take or leave, (Fall and Winter at DT are by far my favorite seasons thanks to all the comforting dessert blends they come out with), but seeing as how I’ve been experiencing the wonders of oolong lately, and I have a passionate love affair with coconut, I was thrilled to see this on the list.

I hurried over on my lunch break and got a big bag of this stuff, because after smelling it in the store my suspicions were confirmed – I was in love. Tea love.

Noteworthy – it is literally a light tea because 40g was not pricey! The dude couldn’t even fit 50g in the bag! Obviously I’m going back for a blue tin (and an elephant mug), because this is a cupboard staple as of right now.

92 degrees for about 4 min. It was a nice light color and the taste was buttery, creamy, smooth, everything I’m learning that oolong is. And then there is the coconut. It is so complimentary you guys! Probably because I love coconut so much I had to concentrate to separate the flavors. But that’s because they work so well together! And I don’t find there to be anything artificial about this. I’m bringing it to work tomorrow so I can be in heaven all day.

Ok, so I’m proud of myself for trying my first official straight tea, no flavors added by someone else and no milk or cream added by me to compensate for that!

After reading reviews of this I decided to get a cup to go at Davidstea when I went to check out the new Spring stuff at lunch today.

I was not disappointed!! I will have to look out for a sale to justify buying this. It was creamy and slightly vegetal (that’s a new tea word for me so I’m using it to make it sound like I know what I’m talking about), and just, delicious! I thought I’d be disappointed compared to the flavored oolongs I’ve fallen in love with (Vanilla Orchid from Davidstea, Maple Pecan from Butiki), but alas, it’s really good and not at all boring!

However, this brings me to mention my observation that it’s weird that Davidstea doesn’t seem to follow their own directions. You’d think they’d at least have a few temperature controlled tea kettles on hand! And when you get a cup to go they just leave the bag in, and don’t even tell you to remove it or else risk astringency or an otherwise noted decrease in the tastiness of your tea! Of course I can’t justify throwing out a full tea bag of expensive oolong and I had nowhere to stick a soggy tea bag while I was at the mall, so I left it in. By the time I was halfway done it was tasting really bitter and a good reminder of why I always thought I hated green tea (water too hot, and I was always a tea bag leaver-inner, before I knew better). Anyway. Why bother putting specific directions on your bag if you’re not going to have your employees follow them! I would not have enjoyed that as much if I had left it to cool down because of the inevitable astringency! (now I really sound like I know what I’m talking about!) At LEAST tell the customer to remove it to get a proper idea of the tea! When DT first opened I had no clue about that stuff. No wonder my Oh Christmas Treat started tasting like dirt… Bag left in, ftw!

Anyway, this is delicious but pricey, so if someone wants to randomly send this my way I promise to give it a good home… In my belly :)

Can this please exist forever? I don’t even know what I’m smelling and tasting but it’s buttery and creamy and I’m the weirdo over in the corner cubicle alternating between having her nose stuck in a bag of loose tea and a mug glued to her hand in front of her face while creepily inhaling deeply, eyes closed.

If I didn’t trust Butiki Teas I would assume there’s crack in here. It’s. Just. So. Good. I just ordered more because I’m afraid it might vanish forever….but Creamy Eggnog, I can’t quit you!!!

I am pretty excited for this one, it smells really good dry and I am a fan of Davidstea Blueberry Jam, adding a creamy note would be just up my alley. I am wondering about the rooibos but hoping the black tea and flavours mask that a bit as I don’t love a noticeable rooibos taste.

It smells equally tasty brewed up in my mug so here I go…….

Yum! I mean YUM!! Wow it tastes just like a blueberry turnover or something. With custard. Della Terra you will be getting another order from this girl next time you have a sale! I love this. I can barely taste the rooibos, it is complementary to everything else which is how I like it.
Blueberry jam donut! I need more of this immediately!

Aw man, another let down. Obviously I’m in the minority here, but I didn’t really dig this one. It’s my second tea from 52teas and the first one was rather disappointing too (caramel pumpkin cheesecake). There could be a few reasons for this:

1) I expect miracles. With dessert teas I mean. I expect it is both realistic and possible for someone to bottle up the pure essence of pancakes and syrup (or cookies, pie, brownies, cake, etc) and make a tea out of it.
2) I love sweets so much that no pale liquid imitation will ever satisfy me.
3) I had high hopes for this therefore I set myself up for disappointment.
4) I’m such a tea newb that I still can’t properly pinpoint different tasting notes in a cup of tea.

I really thought it would be more mapley. I can’t taste any maple at all!!
It doesn’t taste like anything to me, just a slightly sweet blend of black tea with a flavour I cannot put my finger on. I find Oh Canada by Davidstea tastes more like pancakes and syrup to me and I don’t even love that one on account of the rooibos.

I did find this more flavourful as it cooled down, but who wants to drink lukewarm tea for breakfast??

I am glad I got to try it, I still have some for a couple more cups so perhaps as my tea tastes mature I will be able to appreciate the subtlety in this. Thanks to Jackie T for the swap!!

EDIT March 30/13

So I had about 3 big spoonfuls of this left, decided just to throw it all in the strainer of one of my Davidstea Perfect Mugs and just go all the way. I figured if I don’t get any pancake flavour out of this massive quantity of tea then I’m not crazy. It was strong. I left it like 5 minutes and it was a lot of tea. Honestly I was just trying to get rid of it, so I guess that makes this a sipdown.

If I concentrate really hard, tongue out, nose wrinkled, eyes squinched shut I can ALMOST taste something vaguely resembling a pancake. But if you put that tea in front of me, even perfectly brewed and said “tell me what flavour this is”, I wouldn’t be able to. I’m still really just getting some sort of unrecognizable flavoured black tea.

I still have some left for a second (less strong) steep later, and will do so, but it wasn’t even worth drinking to me, I’m going out and I thought to myself “Self, do you want to finish drinking this potent tea that you don’t even enjoy right before you leave the house and then have to pee the whole time you’re gone??” (TMI perhaps)… the answer, anyway, was no.

I don’t even notice any maple in this, maybe it if were super mapley I’d be more on board. Ah well, that’s what swaps are for, right!? I have to lower my rating, because I feel I’ve tried enough delicious and spot-on flavoured teas since originally drinking this almost a month ago to fairly rate it lower, based on my own tastes.
