652 Tasting Notes
I can’t believe I didn’t try this sooner, whether by ordering some or asking for a sample.
It’s really good. Doesn’t taste fake at all (and I’m the opposite of vegan so I’m always wary of the weird chemical and soy crap that goes into trying to duplicate something natural like meat or dairy, (though arguably neither of those is particularly natural these days) but Butiki’s teas never taste weird or fake!) and the flavoring is really delicate, not punch you in your face cloying or overwhelming.
Believe it or not, I can actually taste all the flavors, chocolate, orange and marshmallow, sure enough!! Imagine! Regretting not buying this sooner.
Reminds me a bit of Kusmi’s Euphoria, also chocolate orange, but mate rather than black tea.
I really like that one but i might like this one even more :)
It’s a flavored tea done right!
I just got this in the mail today. So excited.

I haven’t tried it yet but the smell is telling me it might be the Caramel Black tea of my dreams. I have to wait until tomorrow but it’s going to be breakfast, and it’s going to be good. I can tell!!
Just, yay!!
Eta
Well, it’s as good as I thought it would be. Probably can halt the annoying hunt for my perfect caramel black tea, I think this is it!! I think I can taste the Assam base, which is nice. The flavouring seems to compliment it rather than cover it up.
It’s creamy caramel, made even creamier thanks to the vanilla. The best part is that it’s not the burnt toffee tasting sort of caramel! It’s milky and sweet but not in a fake way. I really really like this. It’s as good as it smells. I will reorder later for sure!!!
Yay!! Another believer!!
I love the Assam base of the tea! It keeps it from being yet another wimpy vanilla.
Terri – remind me to send you…wait i think you’re getting some. Well i was going to say remind me to send you a sample of 2 friends…but i’m pretty sure you bought some
Sil – I bought some! I’ve already actually drank it a few times, just haven’t written anything yet because:
1. There isn’t a ‘Two Friends’ entry, & I’m too lazy to make one, since I’m not sure if it’s an ‘official’ tea
2. I’m lazy…I mean busy…
:D
Yay, another awesome review of this one! I’m currently in the TO airport, anxiously awaiting my arrival in Saskatoon and therefore my first taste of this tea (and others from Butiki). I mean…. anxiously awaiting seeing my family…. yes….
Oh my god.
I need to bump this rating up from 83 as I really love this. So glad Persimmon Tree added a better shipping option for Canada as I’m really regretting not ordering the bigger size of this and Mandarin Cream.
If someone places an order that I can piggyback on, let me know! ;)
Probably the me from a year ago or even 4 months ago would have dismissed this as being too weak, not flavorful enough. But it’s so classy! It’s delicate and the base is tasty and sufficiently noticeable and the caramel is not a question! It’s an answer!
I thought I was looking for my holy grail caramel BLACK tea but I ended up accidentally finding the holy grail caramel GREEN tea. I usually only do two steeps as I find (with all teas though) after that it is too weak and watery for me. I should try cold brewing the leftovers of these precious leaves.
I want to drink it everyday but it’s kind of a rare commodity in my cupboard because I don’t have much. And even though Persimmon Tree thankfully added a better shipping option for Canada, it’s still $15. But I will return!
Yay! Another generous sample from Teavivre.
I was anxious to try this as I have discovered a bit of a love for milk oolongs, and I wasn’t sure if I preferred flavored over not.
Next time I will try a comparison with this, the unflavored one, and Davidstea’s version (which I am not sure on whether it is flavored or not)
I enjoyed this as much as the unflavored Teavivre offering, but again if I had them side by side I would probably notice the creaminess more in this one.
Limiting my caffeine now so steep 2 will take place tomorrow, hopefully the leaves will be ok overnight at work.
ETA I should add that though my palate is still new and untrained, I have really been enjoying these milk oolongs. Imagine, no additives or fake flavors and they’re still so fresh and buttery and creamy. That’s good stuff.
also….
Steep 2 was a success. Still creamy and buttery and vegetal but not in a way that turns me off (spinach tea is not for me!!)
Steep 3 to follow :)
Tried this tea this morning, but realized I couldn’t taste anything except weak white tea (not exciting enough for me) … Maybe I didn’t steep it long enough or I underleafed, but I am trying to limit my caffeine intake and this one just wasn’t worth it for me. I wanted to make it count so I made some Caramel Matchaccino instead ;)
Thanks for the sample though, Sil!!!
Mmmmmm. So creamy and limey and vanillariffic.
Rooibos is not overly noticeable and that’s just how I like it!
It brewed up a nice rich brown. Very flavorful. awesome.
Totally worth owning all three.
i just got my lime chiffon in the mail. maybe i’ll have it tonight as i watch the sun go down.
I’m So Glad Winter Is Finally Gone! yyyyyyeeeeeeee!
I had this at work the other day, my last sample from Bluebird Tea Co (boohooo).
I wish I would have thought to bring some of my Davidstea’s Earl’s Garden, because I really like that one, and the two blends are definitely similar.
Unfortunately, (but not really) I did get distracted when drinking this when a coworker who had to leave work a month or two ago due to a cancer diagnosis came in for a visit, I hadn’t seen him since he left work abruptly and it was awesome to see him again.
By the time i got back to my tea I had to finish it cold…. I really did enjoy it though! I would order a small amount to try it again and compare the two. I would have to figure out if they’re different enough to justify having them both. The ingredients are slightly different.
I regret not being able to really pay attention when drinking this one, but…. Not really, given the circumstances :)
Thank you again, Bluebird Tea Co!
Hm.
Well, now that I’m 100% on what a regular genmaicha tastes like I feel a bit more qualified to comment on this.
So, first off I am definitely getting a bit of a weird chemical taste to this, it seems to leave some kind of bitterness in my mouth after the fact.
I can taste a hint of sweetness from the marshmallow, and from what I recall of the Marshmallow Treat there is a noticeable (but not dramatic) chocolatey-ness to this one. I’ve never had a lapsang souchong before but I feel like if I try really really hard I can grab some kind of faint smokiness.
Ultimately, I wanted so badly to truly enjoy this but the weird aftertaste is killing my tea buzz.
Thank you for sending some my way though, Kittenna, I had really wanted to try this!
I’m left wondering if the icky chemical flavour has to do with the possible wonky batch of this tea? Who knows. I didn’t hate it but it was distracting.
Had a sample of this from Kittenna, merci!
It was good, but not as good as the Taiwanese Mountain Black (I know they are two totally different types of tea but my repertoire of straight teas is limited), as I found the flavor wasn’t quite as strong. It was roasty but not super roasty, there are some unique flavors within that I (of course) can’t really identify (told you i will never be able to pick food notes out of an unflavoured tea!) but I did enjoy it!
Just a bit too weak for me, I think I would have to use more leaves or steep it longer in order to get the desired flavor. I suppose that’s why it works well as the base for the Maple Pecan Oolong (which I love), it lets the delicious flavor shine through.
I probably wouldn’t order this one, though I wouldn’t mind trying it again! It may have been just a tad too delicate for me. So happy to have had some though!
Wasn’t my favourite, to be honest. I was curious about it because it was the base of Maple Pecan, but I’d rather drink MP :P
I know what you mean – it’s difficult to review straight teas. My palette and tea vocabulary just aren’t there.

I’ve been wanting to try this too! :) Normally I don’t like tea that has chocolate in it (vegan or otherwise) but judging by Peppermint Patty, she manages to make it really good! :D I want to try both this and raspberry truffle.
Raspberry Truffle wasn’t for me when I tried it, but maybe in the future that will change :)
This one though, this is a keeper for sure!!
Yeah raspberry truffle wasn’t my favourite from Stacy. I prefer two friends to three friends but i’m silly like that lol
Two Friends??? Did you just make that up? Hehe
well sort of. lol i think? we landed on calling it two friends but stacy made me an awesome side creation of orange and chocolate with the assam base because i was having serious problems with three friends. I was SOOOOOO excited for three friends because i love chocoalte orange but no matter how i steep it, there’s a weird after taste that i get.
Ohh ok!! Cool :) it must be good! Is it going to be available to the public?
not sure. I know kittenna, terri and i all ordered some…
and I’m drinking it right now :)
whatshesaid-It’s not going to be available online but if enough people are interested I can do a small batch of it.
Now I am so excited!!!! I put an order in for this as well as quite a few other Butiki teas (like cantaloupe and cream, maple pecan oolong, and creamy eggnog).
You won’t be disappointed!! (Well hopefully :))
