drank Glitter & Gold by DAVIDsTEA

I made a pot of this and yet again, my sister stole my cup. Luckily I was prepared with a potful to pour myself another. I love this tea! It is the perfect amount of vanilla and sweetness. Plus no flavor is too much so it is just a nice cup of tea.

Also this makes an amazing latte! When I tried to make one for myself, one of my friends stole it from me.

drank Fantasy Island by DAVIDsTEA
5272 tasting notes

I caved and ending up going into David’s Tea today. They didn’t have the fall ea on the 2/$5 promo (I was in the one in the Montreal Eaton’s Center)but that didn’t stop me from buying a bunch of different teas. Luckily thanks to you wonderful steepsters I learned you don’t need to buy 50 g, or even 25 g, if you just want to try out a tea so I got about 10 g of 4 different teas that I wanted to try (salted caramel, redberry tonic, vanilla ordchid, and love tea #7), 50 g of White Chocolate Frost and 100 g of Jessie’s Tea. I thought I was done buying tea to take home but I did want to try an iced latte and when I asked the salewoman what she recommended she said fantasy island. I ended up picking up 25 g of that too because they gave me the latte as the saleswoman was packing up my other teas and I quite enjoyed the taste. The coconut and milk combined well to provide a nice creaminess and the sweetness that can sometimes be too overpowering in teas with coconut was nicely cut by the raspberries and tea. All in all, I thought this made for a great first iced latte!

Aimee Popovacki sent me some of this and I am so happy. When prepared as a latte this tastes like a Mexican Hot Chocolate. My sister who dislikes tea tried some and next thing I knew I had to make another cup because she stole mine. Thanks Aimee!!

i like the cacao tea from herbal infusions..i haven’t tried david’s tea but it’s interesting!

VariaTEA 12 years ago

I was actually looking at the herbal infusions cacao tea to see how they compare. I think this one but it can have a sort of powdery mouth feel at times

drank Santa's Secret by DAVIDsTEA
5272 tasting notes

After having so many dessert teas recently, filled with chocolate and cakey flavors, I decided I wanted something a bit different. Enter my package from Aimee Popovacki and a bag of Santa’s Secret tea. It smelled great – minty but not overpoweringly so. This is what the tea tastes like – it is sweetened from the sprinkles while having a just the right about of mint. Thanks Aimee!!

drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas
5272 tasting notes

I was so excited to try this one so when my package from Roswell Strange arrived I ran to the kettle to get the water boiling. I was a little let down because I was expecting more of the s’mores flavor but I mostly just got black tea. Perhaps if I brew it in water that has cooled a bit it the flavors might come out more? Or perhaps my issue was I brewed it a little too long which I just noticed reading the info about the tea. One the plus side, the smell and aftertaste were distinctly marshmallow which was nice. I am glad there is more in the sample I got so that I can experiment with this tea. Thanks Roswell Strange!!

I personally think this is best with a very short steep time. The longer you steep it, the more the black tea drowns out the other flavours.

VariaTEA 12 years ago

I brewed it for 4 minutes because I made Santa’s Secret at the same time and didn’t pay as much attention to the brewing instructions as I should have. Luckily you fit enough into the tiny bag that I can have at least one or two more cups.

I dropped my rating on this because I noticed the oils in it more and more but I still think it is a very enjoyable cup.

drank Gingerbread by DAVIDsTEA
5272 tasting notes

Finally made my Gingerbread Latte! I don’t even know why this popped into my head or why I have been thinking about it for days but I have finally made it and it is…okay. I think I prefer this as plain tea. The cakey flavor is brought out in the latte and I find it to be too overpowering. Well you live and you learn.

drank Caramel Matcha by Red Leaf Tea
5272 tasting notes

Thank you to Sil for my sample of this matcha. I tried this both as a latte and plain and to be honest I was not as in love with it as I anticipated I would be. I think I am on the minority with this one but I did not really notice the caramel too much. I didn’t think it was bad just not the flavor I was expecting. However, I don’t think I blended the matcha too well because there was powder at the bottom of my cup so maybe that has something to do with it. I will finish up the sample but I don’t think I will be buying more of this flavor.

drank Passion Fruit by Kusmi Tea
5272 tasting notes

This is the first white tea from Kusmi that I have tried and I think it might be the last. This tea both dry and brewed smells just like passion fruit and I was hoping it would taste like it smells. Unfortunately that is not the case. I find the tea almost has a bitter chemical taste to it that is obviously not very appealing. Now I have 75g of this that is going into the swap box. Sorry Kusmi, but this one is just not very good.

Even with that glowing recommendation, I’d be willing to take a little of that off your hands….

VariaTEA 12 years ago

haha sure. How much would you like? I also picked up a couple other Kusmi teas (they have a 75 g min purchase so I have a lot) and Teavana teas if you want to try them.

Dexter 12 years ago

LOL I dont want lots, just a taste. Will work something out. :))

Nxtdoor 12 years ago

I also only had one kusmi tea and was not inclined to further my kusmi education.

VariaTEA 12 years ago

Well if you change your mind nxtdoor I can send some samples your way. For me this was a bust but there are others which have not been bad

VariaTEA 12 years ago

And Dexter, check through my cupboard if you like and let me know what you would want samples of and I can probably send them your way.

drank Earl Grey (loose leaf) by Twinings

This makes an amazing latte (aka a London Fog). I had some of my roommates and it was deliciously creamy with just the right amount of sweetness.

Nxtdoor 12 years ago

Wow, a cannibal :) how many roommates have you had, exactly? I know all typos are funny but some can be really taken out of context!

VariaTEA 12 years ago

Oh oops!! That is quite the mistake…I have not or will not ever eat a roommate or any other person!

Bio

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
