drank S'mores by Della Terra Teas

I had about 1.5 tsps left of this from the sample Roswell Strange sent me so I decided I would polish it off (sipdown!) and hopefully have a tasty treat as well. I made this in my 16 oz timolino so in order to avoid underleafing, I threw in about 1/2 a tsp of DAVIDs Toasted Marshmallow (the only other s’mores type tea I had) that came to me by way of Janelle’s stash sale. I steeped the tea for a mere two minutes just below boiling in hopes of bringing out the marshmallow-y flavors. Unfortunately, all I got in my first sip was a pretty mediocre black tea.

I ended up letting this cup sit for a bit while I decided to try baking with Truvia. My roommate and I made a Coconut flour apple banana loaf this week – no tea though since we were already experimenting with the truvia and only had about 2 tbsps of oil to work with.

I got caught up in the baking and so it was not until the loaf got thrown into the oven that I took another sip and by that time this tea had cooled to about room temperature. Apparently that is the key to this mixture though. At room temperature, this tea became a liquefied s’more as opposed to the liquid bore it was when hot (sorry, I could not resist that horrid joke). Not only was this marshmallow-y sweet but there was even a bit of the delicious caramelized marshmallow flavor you get from roasting s’mores. The cinnamon from the Toasted Marshmallow, overpowering when you drink Toasted Marshmallow alone, shined through just enough to taste like the perfect graham cracker accompaniment to the amazing roasted marshmallow. And there was a nice hint of milk chocolate to round out the flavors. It certainly made for a delicious treat and showed me a good way to use the Toasted Marshmallow – now I just need to pick up a little bit more s’mores. Good thing there is a Della Terra sale coming up :). Thank you Roswell Strange for sharing this with me!! And thank you Janelle for sending some Toasted Marshmallow my way!

That’s funny that you had S’more like teas from both Janelle and I and ended up using them together since we both live in the same town :P

VariaTEA

Really? They were meant to be had together :P

Roswell Strange

Yup. Actually, I’m buying tea from Janelle too and right now we’re trying to work out a time between both of our crazy schedules to actually meet up in person to do it. You know, save on shipping a little and such :P Plus it’s just kinda neat meeting someone on Steepster in person. Lala lives a town away (the town I moved from, actually) so who knows – maybe someday I’ll meet her in person too.

Aww that is so nice. Cavocorax lives maybe 10 minutes away from my childhood home back in Thornhill. When I got her package, the first half of her postal code is the same as my homes so it was definitely weird getting a package with that area code that was not from my mom.

Cavocorax

It’s funny how we’re all connected! When I was in Vancouver I was about a 10 minute bus ride from where OMGSrsly works.

Also, I’m jealous that you got your package from Janelle! I don’t even know if mine shipped yet! :O I was hoping to get it before Black Friday so I could sample more Della Terra, but, it’s not a big deal.

Roswell Strange

I’m hoping Janelle messages me back sometime tomorrow: our plan was to meet up Wednesday and a whole bunch of what I was getting from her was sample sizes of Della Terra teas I might want to order as part of their sale. But I haven’t heard back from her in a few days :( Feels like I just moved here though (almost 3 months ago now, though) and I remember how crazy busy I was with moving, so I get that she’s pretty preoccupied atm.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
