Additional notes on this lovely tea. Last time I had it, my nephew was staying with me so I didn’t gongfu it. This time I did.

There is still that warm, comforting spice that I can’t name and it goes well with the oats notes. I still don’t believe it is cinnamon. What is it?? lol Anyway, it’s a warm taste. Lovely.

Lots of fresh red apples, apple skin, some berries… As it tasted when I made it as directed, it still comes off as a yummy lightly spiced-oatmeal-apple pie. Creamy barley notes, more raisin than honey sweetness. No bitterness at all, almost dessert-like and it’s rich, full. In the beginning, I got some sweet potatoes but only, in the beginning, it remained full of oats and fruity notes throughout all the infusions. Tasted some lychee and stonefruits notes somewhere in the middle. Warm, fruity, oat-y, yummy. I think I prefer my ‘Golden Lily’ this way now.

Really nice flavors throughout the infusions. Sweet Potatoes, baked bread, sugar cane, dark cherry, hints of cocoa and caramel, malty, earthy, honey, mineral, and stonefruits. Slightly astringent.

Gaiwan 208 ˚ F, 110 ml, 6g, quick rinse, 6 infusions: 10s, 15s, 20s, 30s, 1 min., 2 min.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving. :) I made a huge bowl of soup and watched The Irishman which I enjoyed and also The Crown Season 3. It sucks being away from my whole family who are in Southern California but I enjoy my peaceful evenings with games, knitting, and movies very much!

So TeaVivre put out some new rooibos and of the 3 I tried (chocolate, toffee, and strawberry rooibos), I liked this TeaVivre Rooibos the best. It’s tart but delicately sweet and creamy, natural, no artificial flavor taste since it’s all-natural ingredients. roasty and earthy. I think some may put want to add a little sweetener and/or milk. I think this would make a really awesome latte so since I bought a bag of it, I’ll try it that way next. :D

I’ve drank matcha all my life. Usually the traditional way. This is the first time I’ve ever tried flavored matcha. True story hehe, which is why I really appreciate the swap so I can try some. I look forward to the others you sent. This one is a bit chalky as someone mentioned but the flavors of berries, vanilla and cream as well as the matcha itself is very pleasant. It is too sweet for me but I’m sure I can send some to my nephew who will appreciate that part. :)

Thank you for the swap, Amandastory5016. :D I had a sample of this before, but my nephew at the time drank it all up. So I got to drink this alone and enjoyed it very much. Not overly sweet, very creamy, apple, cinnamon and full of nuts. Kind of like a cinnamon covered apple with nuts on it. Yummy on a cold night.

It didn’t taste quite like bread pudding to me but it was a nice warm, comforting tea especially now that it’s chilly out. It is balanced, very smooth and spiced just right with raisins, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves notes. I liked it much better when I used twice the amount as directed. It was fuller, richer and was a nice dessert tea. I can taste the bread notes more with double the amount.

Ambrosia has delightful notes of cocoa, malt, dark cherry, vanilla, and marshmallow. It’s smooth and creamy, nice mouth feeling… A thickness feeling and has a long-lasting finish. It is a complex tea with lots of underlying notes especially of fruity layers such as stone fruits, apricots, apples, mainly baked cherries, however, the vanilla and chocolate notes are on the forefront. Other notes throughout are baked bread, malt, berries. It is energizing and calming at the same time.

Gaiwan, 200℉, 5g, 110ml, 7steeps: rinse, 5s, 10s, 20s, 30s, 40s, 60s,120s

I have also tried it as directed, western brew. Excellent that way too.

Now that my nephew is gone, I’m left with lots of flavored tea hehe but I always welcome rooibos because of the health factor too. This particular Chocolate Rooibos tea is creamy, smooth. It has a natural sweetness of cocoa, sweet earthy flavor, and has a gentle nutty taste. It’s also full-bodied and rich. It has a very nice warm cocoa and nuts aroma and some woody notes. I liked this one much better than the toffee. The toffee one was good but came off a little artificial and this one does not at all.

Ceremonial grade. Lovely Matcha. The color is vibrant yellowish-emerald green. It has a fine and smooth feel to it and its consistency is one of very fine powder. It has the qualities of high standard matcha and has no bitterness nor astringency… And thank goodness, no paint-smell, some actually smell like turpentine. Ew. Sweet, full-bodied, rich taste, and aroma. It’s energizing and vitalizing, but calming. I prepared it with 1 tsp in ~2 oz boiling water, frothed it, then added another 6 ounces boiling water. It has a very creamy texture with a vegetal, earthy flavor with a ever so slight hint of sweetness that lingers on the palate. The aroma is calming, sweet, and vegetal. Highly recommended.

In other news, my nephew went back home with his father and my mother who is taking care of him. My brother is doing better, but like all those that suffer from PTSD and other disorders, it is always a sad and difficult road. All we could do is love them, and support them in their recovery. Thank you all for your support. It’s appreciated <3.

drank GABA Black by Mandala Tea

I’ve been a fan of Mandala Tea for a while now. It’s so strange that for some reason I never bought this until recently especially since I love GABA teas. It provides energy but also a feeling of being centered, you know, a peaceful state of mind which I felt was especially needed in the last few days. ^^

Ahh, the tea. The leaves are big dark leaves, the liquor is a golden clear amber. The taste is delicate but flavorful. It’s a light fruity black tea with baked bread and sourdough bread notes with delightful raisin, dried fruit notes. Malty, and maybe slightly tart here and there but I wouldn’t call it sour. The finish is malty, bready, slightly sweet of honey.

It began as a gongfu session and well, I screwed up big time lol. So I added water and continued with 1 min., 2 min., 3 min, 4 min. and a final 6 min. infusion with boiling water.

In other news: I spoke to my mother and she says that my brother is doing better so for that I’m glad especially since being a natural loner, my only real-life friends are my family who is states away at the moment. I will go to visit him in California soon. In the meantime, I have a tea-loving nephew who is taking up a lot of my time. hehe I hope you are all doing well. <3

Longtime casual tea drinker. In the past, mainly Sencha, Matcha. I’m currently into Oolong, Black & Pu’erh.

Gongfu cha is the main way I prepare my tea (gaiwan or Yixing teapot). I drink all tea… Usually unflavored. I do try some flavored now. I don’t like artificial sweeteners.

Favorite stores: TeaVivre, What-Cha, Mandala Tea, Yunnan sourcing, White2Tea, Lupicia. (Note: I love the teaware from TeaVivre and Yunnan sourcing.) Good experiences with 52Teas, Harney & Sons, Whispering Pines

Flavors I dislike are artificial flavors, especially artificial sweeteners. Strong lavender, violet, any strong floral-perfumey tea; cantaloupe, ripe papaya, sweet honeydew.

Can handle a little of the following: Rose, licorice, anise, jasmine, mint, spearmint, peppermint, leather.

Favorite flavors: Citrus fruits (especially grapefruit & tangerines), granny smith apple, bananas, guava, mango, tamarind, watermelon, stonefruits, all fruits except cantaloupe, chocolate, caramel, vanilla, milk, cinnamon, creme, bread, nuts, toasted, roasted.

I generally don’t add anything to my teas.

As I explore, my ratings may shift. 90+ generally means I’ll keep it on my shelf.
