I keep this around for when my mother visits because she doesn’t really understand my tea setup and prefers to make her own (she usually gets up before me since I’m on the west coast and she’s coming from the east coast (of the USA)). Bagged is what she usually gets, although I spent a couple of hundred dollars of plain black teas from a variety of sources for her to try during her iced tea experiments earlier this year.
Anyway, I like this tea slightly better than the Teavana English Breakfast that I was drinking earlier today. The brew is less astringent and only a tiny bit bitter (I think I steeped it for slightly too long, lost track of time). This is the bagged variety. This tastes like a nice simple tea with not much coming out on a flavour profile except a slight mineral note, mostly just tastes “tea”-like to me.
I enjoy a simple cup of tea now and again, but I think I’ll mostly just be saving this for when my mother visits.
Bagged
Aroma when Dry: Deep Lemon, Hot Ginger crisp, spicy
After water is first poured: Bright citrus, tangy, not sour moderate spice, hint of the blackberry notes.
At end of steep: warm citrus and blackberry balanced tangy notes hints of spice.
Tea liquor:
At end of steep: almost clear
Staple? Yes. My Go to lemon ginger blend.
Time of day preferred: Morning, afternoon.
Taste:
first notes: warm lemon, mild sweetness from blackberry and linden. Tang that is unobtrusive. Very balanced ginger undercurrent.
As it cools? Ginger surfaces more, as does the blackberry (without any greater sweet quality). Lemon mellows greatly.
Additives used (milk, honey, sugar etc)? No
Lingers? Slightly, the lemon relaxing into ginger and blackberry notes.
Preparation
This is my first rooibos. As soon as I smelled it I knew I didn’t want to steep this one for very long. It’s quite woodsy, but I can’t decide if that’s good or bad. It is borderline unpleasant, but not so much that I feel I must throw it down the drain without another sip. My cup has a bit of plain creamer and sweetner in it, and I’m fairly certain the water that was already in the kettle is not unfiltered. Maybe I will try this again with better water and such. I hope it can be better than this or it will take a lot to get through 19 more tea bags. :(
Preparation
This is classic. 100% Kenyan and Assam black tea without any spices. A very rich tea, that suits well for early mornings and for afternoon tea. Slightly bitter and requires short steep time.
Nothing special, its just tea at its finest.
Preparation
Good and hot with milk and sugar. And nutella cookies! I made this tea JUST in time for my new tea order to arrive! :P
But then my possibly parasite-ridden kitten licked it, so I don’t feel bad about throwing it out now.
Preparation
Had this last night for my throat, with honey. :)
Preparation
Lazy morning tea that I forgot I was making but it’s pretty hard to mess up Earl Grey. Or I just don’t care. :P Gotta get up some energy to shower and run all my errands today! Tis the season to send off those cards before they’re even more late……
