This is a bit of a deceiving tealog, only because I’ve blended this with Throat Coat (same company) and DAVID’s Super Ginger to make a potent potion. So 1L of water, two Cold Formula’s opened and dumped into my Breville, two Throat Coat’s opened and dumped into my Breville, then two rounded tsp of Super Ginger. Steep, and voila!
This is a surprisingly tasty combination, and naturally sweet to boot. It smells like herbally-hay, but tastes like a licorice mint chai with the burn of ginger and peppercorns. I’d drink this while healthy. Tasty!
Preparation
Stole a bag of this from my housemate. Desperate times call for desperate measure.
It tastes GROSS. Wayyyyyy too much licorice and anise. But damned if it isn’t working! Not the most pleasant experience flavor wise, but if you can just power through it, your throat will no longer be tickly or sore. Temporarily.
Blahhhhh I just wanna get better…
this tea bag was in the back of our cupboard at home. no idea how long it was there or where it came from. i know this is probably obvious but basically there are so many chais that are so much better than this one. so just drink those, and leave this one at the supermarket ok? i mean, it’s not even awful, but really, just trust me on this.
all the un-sampled teas i have are herbal, so my tastings have been kinda slow going.
but due to a slight chill in the air and my perpetual slight dehydration due to marathon training, i actually drank 3 herbals last night :)
this one, i never finished the cup. and i could say that it was because i was too tired? but i think it was probably just because i didn’t really like it. it was just a sample and i don’t have any more, so not to worry.
my new new kindle? it’s on my doorstep right now! i can’t wait to go home and cuddle it. can’t! wait!
A review of Organic Roasted Dandelion Root by Traditional Medicinals
Company: Traditional Medicinals
Tea Name: Organic Roasted Dandelion Root
Tea Type/Varietal: herbal
Region: Poland and Bosnia / California USA
Steeping Vessel/Amt Leaf: cup/ tea bag
Liquor Color: darkly golden brown
Leaf Characteristic: strong roasted cup of brewed tea
I used freshly boiled water and placing one tea bag in my cup, while adding the hot water over the tea bag, leaving it to steep for several minutes. After the allotted time, the tea’s aroma is strongly of roast, making for a strong cup of tea. I sip the tea slowly while taking in the aroma which makes me think of the burning of woods in the out of doors.
This tea reminds me a little of Hojicha tea which I have enjoyed immensely for its smoked aroma. The tea is both sweet and slightly bitter as the lasting note.
Overall tasting notes: This tea is wonderfully roasted in my cup. I like the headiness that if offers; as it gets the juices flowing to awaken me. I like the smokiness of it that is all.
Cup’s characteristic: roasted cup of tea
Liquor color: dark golden brown
Taste: roasted with a mildly sweet and bitter taste as the lasting impression.

A review of Organic Fennel by Traditional Medicinals
Company: Traditional Medicinals
Tea Name: Organic Fennel
Tea Type/Varietal: herbal
Region: Bulgaria / California, USA
Steeping Vessel/Amt Leaf: cup/ tea bag
Liquor Color: golden brown
Leaf Characteristic:
I used freshly boiled water and putting one tea bag in my cup, adding the boiled water and left it to steep for 15 minutes.
The teas’ aroma is strongly of licorice and when I sip of the tea, this is what I am met with. I don’t take at all to licorice, so I have several small sips of the tea before I can become accustom to its strong and pungent taste.
To compensate, I remind myself that this tea is good for me. As it will soothe and supports my digestion in relieving of excess gas, bloating and that fullness that comes when one consumes a little too much.
Overall tasting notes: I would not mind the tea so much, if the licorice could be removed and yet I feel that it would not be the same tea in my cup. So leave it as is.
Cup’s characteristic: This cup of tea is strongly of licorice, through and through.
Liquor color: golden brown
Taste: slightly bitter with the licorice chiding away at the sting of it.
Preparation
had this last night as i watched Breaking Bad.
(the second to final episode ever.)
that show is stressful yo!
this tea was tasty enough, but had little effect on how nervous the show made me ;)
it’s herbal tea bitch.
I don’t think anyone drinks this tea “for fun.” It wouldn’t help against something severe, like strep throat, but for a common cold or an annoying tickly throat feeling (such as the one I have currently), this tea is at your service. It relieves the irritation for a little while. I’d rather drink tea than take pills, though, so I may be biased.
This one tastes MUCH better than TM’s regular Throat Coat (I much prefer lemon over cherry bark… the cherry reminds me too much of cough syrup. Trying to gulp down a steaming mug of Robitussin? No thanks) and adding echinacea is always a good idea, in my opinion.
Well, this tastes A LOT better than Traditional Medicinals’s regular Throat Coat. I got the last box of this flavor at the store today, so I think the general public in my area concurs. I immediately replaced the nasty-tasting regular Throat Coat teabag I’d nicked from my housemate a few nights ago when I got home.
The box recommends 10-15 minute steep time, so I kept the teabag in the water the whole time. The longer it steeped, the sweeter it got. Just a precaution for those who dislike strong sweetness.
The licorice isn’t quite as pronounced, and they knocked it off with the cherry bark, which is what made the other Throat Coat taste like nasty licorice-y cough medicine. I think the lemon and echinacea are a wonderful idea, as they make this tea more mellow and also well-rounded in terms of function. (Now, not only does it soothe the throat and taste good while it does it, but it also helps your immune system fight whatever’s ailing you!)
I find this tea to be quite sweet on its own, but if you’re sick, adding honey is good for you. A teaspoon of it certainly didn’t hurt my enjoyment of this tea any.
I highly recommend this tea! Just don’t make the mistake of getting the regular Throat Coat instead.
Preparation
I have had slight sinus and tickly throat irritations for a few days now, and I decided to try this because there was a bag of it in a tea tin that my housemate’s mom gave to us. It tasted wonderful! Lemony and sweet. I could feel it soothing my throat as I drank it, and for a little while after, too. It’s not going to help against strep or anything serious like that, but it can make recovering from a minor cold quite pleasant.
I swear by echinacea! This is my favorite herbal blend with it. It’s amazing with a little organic honey.
It tastes earthy and mildly minty. Lots of umami. It’s a bit like Tulsi; flavor-wise, it isn’t the most thrilling thing ever, but in terms of how it makes me feel while I’m drinking it and afterward, it’s spectacular! I really only make it during the winter or during seasonal transitions. Basically, the times when getting sick is really likely.
In this case today, I’m also trying to finish the box to make room in my tea chest.
Flavors: Earth, Nuts
I’ve had a dry, tickly cough since last night. I am determined not to get sick! It’s not happening!
I swear by echinacea teas- I have three different blends of it. However, I only haul out the big guns (this pharmaceutical-grade Traditional Medicinal blend) when I feel that illness is eminent.
There’s a certain quality to echinacea that I love. It’s not floral, and it’s not nutty. I would say that it’s… earthy. It tastes like a really pleasant, natural medicine. This blend also tastes warm and buttery. It goes down really smoothly. I can’t say that I’m experiencing a tingling feeling on my tongue, like the box says, but I have no doubt that I’m drinking tea made with quality ingredients.
Traditional Medicinals has a way of perfectly balancing really really good taste and also honestly making you feel better. Hard to do with blends that are supposed to be medicinal. Celestial Seasonings has had to change the flavors of their Wellness Teas several times because of that.
Anyway, props to you, Traditional Medicinals. I hope this works, because I loathe being sick.
I am usually not a huge fan of herbal teas, their medicinal quality and usefulness aside I never drink them for pleasure…because usually they taste kinda gross. This tea was a pleasant surprise!
The taste is very mild and slightly sweet, not at all bitter or medicinal tasting. It had a very floral flavor and the subtle flavors of the tea are brought out with just a touch of honey.
The aroma is that of a summer field, very green and floral, not at all unpleasant.
The best part is it seems to be working, the tea claims to help relax you and help you sleep and I certainly feel relaxed and sleepy. A wonderful before bed tea!
Blegh. Desperate measures, and all that…
Trying to record audio for a class project, so naturally my throat feels all clogged up suddenly. I think it’s psychosomatic. This tea should fix it, either way.
yup, still tastes vile. Desperate times call for desperate measures though. And honey, lots of honey…
That sounds disturbingly good – feel better!
Aw, thank you. I think this tea was exactly what I needed.
Must have been potent indeed! Hope it soothed your throat.
