This is probably the most complex tasting tea I have ever drank and if a tea can taste like a place this is it.
I can easily taste Blueberry, birch bark, wintergreen, cranberry and other true Maine flavors all mixed together. I know it doesn’t sound good but it is tea, it is supposed to taste good, and it does.I wish they made this in teabags instead of just loose, also wish they sold this on their website but it is exclusive to some mail order house in Maine that charges waaaay to much for it.
This like the song “The Cat Came Back” … “the tea just wouldn’t go away…” I’m bound and determined to finish the canister, and every time I think I’m on the last spoonful, there’s more. I doubled up on quantity and got the water to turn a rather designer-beige color; maybe a little almond scent to it, but taste? Nope! I think I may see if co-worker wants to fertilize her African violet with the rest.
Drinking this one non-stop recently! As soon as I opened the tin, the strong smell hit me, and in the best way possible. This tea is so delightfully light and sweet that you really don’t need sugar. I can only really taste the pear and green tea, but I’ll be keeping a tongue out for that dang kiwi they promised. Steeping times may vary, but I usually let it sit for a while just so it strengthens the flavor. Though I have been drinking it hot, I can imagine this would be absolutely delicious iced as well, particularly on a hot summer day.
I had high hopes for this tea after I smelled it – I thought it might compete with Teavana’s Rose Marzipan for a place in my heart. Well, it doesn’t quite make it but it’s close. I feel like it needs just a little extra something to make it really wow me. It’s sweet and I love the almond with the vanilla peeking out at the end but maybe a touch of maple or something would add that oomph I want it to have. Also, it tastes a little thin but I’m not sure how to change that. I made it strong enough that I can feel the affects of the caffeine so I’m not sure how to make the taste bolder without causing someone at work to beat me with a hole-punch due to hyperactivity.
Bagged teas rarely are going to be as good as loose-leaf varieties, but Republic Chai was disappointingly weak by any standard. There was just no “there” there, if you know what I mean. If you’re hellbent on getting your tea from a bag, Celestial Seasonings (which I associate more with herbal teas than with quality real teas) actually has a pretty good chai that has the requisite spice and which can stand up to milk. If you want the real deal, however, go for the loose-leaf stuff, such as Rishi’s Masala Chai. Or, if you prefer something with a strong cinnamon flavor, rather than cardamon, try Porto Rico Importing’s Chai Tra Que.
one of my favorite comfort teas. out of the various rose petal black teas I’ve tried, this is my favorite. it’s very sweet and seems more rose than tea (which is what I want). I prepare it with milk and sugar in the raw.
Backlogging this morning’s tea.
I didn’t have quiet enough to make as much as I needed so I topped it off with ROT’s Vanilla Almond. Just a tiny amount, but it really made a difference. I didn’t like the Vanilla Almond straight but just a little really sweetened up the British Breakfast. Otherwise, it wasn’t an overly exciting tea. I think that I liked this more before when I first had this because I hadn’t really experienced many British or Irish breakfast blends. Now that I’ve had better, I probably won’t get this one again.
Preparation
I’m in a brown mood today. Not a bad brown mood – I’m in quite a good mood actually – I just feel very attracted to brown today. Brown shirt, brown flip flops, brown eye shadows, bronzer instead of blush… It’s just a happy brown day.
But because of my affinity toward brown, I didn’t want a sweet or fruity tea today. I wanted something solid. I would say I wanted something brown but most teas end up brown… Rather I wanted something that tasted like a happy brown. So I pulled this one out.
I probably could have used just a tiny bit more sugar or milk (for my 12 oz travel mug I pretty much just waved the sugar and milk over it) to make it a wee bit smoother because this was encroaching upon the taste I would want for a grumpy brown day, but ultimately it worked out. Very nutty tasting, maybe malty (I’m still I little unsure as to that actual taste but I’m pretty sure that’s what I got more toward the end of the mug), strong and a little rough, but not bad. Good for a happy brown day.
