AWESOME!
This is really good. The plantain tastes a lot like banana – but not quite… it has a starchier flavor – this is very true to a plantain taste… or at least, true to what I remember a plantain tastes like, it’s been a while! And the coconut is delightful in this blend … a very nice balance of the tropical flavors. The green rooibos is not strongly distinguishable, but I can taste it’s fresh, somewhat fruity, somewhat woodsy, sweet note that it imparts.
This is really good. It would be awesome iced too.
Preparation
This is actually pretty good for a bagged tea. Much stronger than I expected. Next time I’ll definitely steep for less time, though. Maybe four minutes is all that’s needed. This is the usual hot tea we serve where I work.
Anyway, it’s your standard black tea, ordinary, and surprisingly high in caffeine. If I was looking for a wake-up rush and was out of coffee, two bags of this would do the trick. Also, I think a lemon slice and some honey would make this glorious. I’d be happy to try the loose leaf version if the opportunity arises.
Preparation
Saw this at work today and I was curious. I usually don’t like rooibos, but I make an effort to try them from time to time.
Anyway, all I had was honey to sweeten it, so I tried it plain first. It’s a little on the sour side, which was unexpected, and the vanilla taste is very strong. It lingers in the mouth in a pleasant way. And while the taste reminds me of an air freshener my grandmother used to have, it’s not bad. I definitely can taste the pomegranate (and not that weird artificial pomegranate taste some teas have). I added a dollop of honey after that and the flavor was improved, but it probably would have been better with sugar. The taste of the actual rooibos is practically non-existent.
My verdict is that this is drinkable, but not something I would pick up at the store myself. I can see others liking it a lot.
Preparation
It’s ok, the raisin-y flavor is a bit too much for me, and I oversteeped the &@$! out of it so the stomachache it gave me is what I get for being too lazy to take the bag out of my thermos before drinking it! I won’t buy this again but I will finish the tin or swap a handful of bags. I really am trying to not hate green tea!
Hoping this will help me ease into my morning with a light bit of caffeine. Yesterday I started off with a bang (3 coffee’s a latte and a large black iced tea). I think my body needs a rest. Love the ripe pineapple aroma of this blend.
I have enjoyed the Daily Green’s from RoT that I have tried thus far, and this is no exception. The fragrance is strongly pineapple, sweet, juicy ripe pineapple, with an underlying hint of ginger’s zip. The taste is mostly of green tea, just a light, grassy green, with a bit of fruity sweetness from the pineapple. I wish the taste was as rich as the fragrance, but it is not. There is a little tickling in the back of my throat from the ginger, but it is not too strong.
This was a great choice to wash down taco night dinner tonight. Can’t decide if I want another cup, or if I will switch to an herbal….
Preparation
I’ll have to look for this one…I’ve been on a pineapple kick here lately. Do you think someone who doesn’t like ginger would still like this tea?
About to head out of work to attend a pre-conference session. Can you sense the excitement? Here’s hoping that there’s tea there along with the copious amounts of coffee that’s usually served. Taking this with me, just in case, but I think we all know that it will barely last the 10 minute drive there (love when conferences are in town!), let alone the 2 hour session.
Preparation
Couldn’t decide what I wanted to take with me on my commute home, so I let the pick-a-tea randomizer do it for me.
This was the first caffeine-free one it picked that I also had here at work, so I went with it! Seems more chocolatey than it usually does.
Preparation
I’ve not added a tasting note on this? How is that possible? I drink this at least twice a week. I found it the past Valentine’s at my first visit to World Market (oh, yeah, that was a good tea day).
I think I’m with the minority here, but I think the rooibos is a good base for this tea. It’s a mild strawberry flavor, more like preserves rather than real strawberries. And the chocolate is more cocoa than milk chocolate, which I think is really nice. I’ll definitely be picking this one up again when next Valentine’s rolls around.
Preparation
I used 2 bags with 8 oz and loved the results, very mild and slightly fruity. I wouldn’t have known it was mango if the tin didn’t spell it out for me! I actually left the bags during the half hour it took me to finish the cup and the flavor didn’t get out of hand. It’s perfect for when I can’t decide what kind of tea I’m in the mood for. Already went through 6 bags this evening! I will be purchasing this again.
Preparation
Not sure about this one.
Got it in a swap, so I don’t know how fresh the bag is. But I second the dusty/musty smell to it. It wasn’t bad when drunk, it just was kind of lackluster. I did add milk/sugar in the hopes to give it a bit more body, but it was weak at best.
Hmm….warrents another sip but who knows?
I’m really liking what Republic of Tea has been doing lately with their new creations and flavor combinations. When I first saw this one on their website, I knew I had to try it. Turns out, everyone else did, too, and I had a hard time finding it in my town. Thank you, Liquor Barn, for your great selection of teas.
This rooibos is sweet (I’m assuming from the beetroot), but it mainly tastes like carrot. There’s a slight orange taste, as though you had cooked carrots with a bit of orange juice in the water. There’s a mild, grassy, rooibos flavor finish. I find that I like the Mango Chili and Plantain Coconut better than this blend, but don’t regret the purchase at all. I’m finding that I’m really enjoying teas made out of the more unusual ingredients here lately. Will have to keep an eye out for more of them.
Preparation
Mom got this sample with her Republic of Tea catalog (which, I assume, she now receives since she ordered tea for me), and passed it along to me. I was rather excited, since I’ve tried most of the flavored superfruit teas, but not the plain, original one.
This one is just as good as the others. Sweet, not too tart, with a hint of apple and lemon. Drinking it hot, but like the others, would be excellent cold. I’d definitely consider purchasing this.
Preparation
This tea actually did seem to help me relax, and for someone with a history of insomnia, that is a welcome change. I’ve never been a fan of prescription sleep aids as they don’t deliver a good quality of sleep for me. The lady at the tea store sold it as a natural alternative to Valium. Not quite sure I agree that it lives up to that, but still, this one was well received around my home. Also, the minty aroma is quite lovely.

That’s the 1st time I’ve seen a plantain tea.
Me too! Sounds interesting.
Me too(three)! I love plantains…hmmm
