drank Queen West Blend by Tealish

This is a strange one. Its like this cross between a wonderful smell very similar yet again (second time I have tried a tea that smells like this today) of Strawberry Zabagilone, and yet there is this icky smell lofting in the background (rotted fruit?) . I can also smell the creamy flavor in there. I want to like this as I pick up on many good flavors but yet something is off with this tea.
I think as others have said – they just tried to do far too many things with it. Perhaps there are blend masters who can in fact go all out like this but I am not thinking Tealish hit the mark here.
Its just weird!
And you know what – I am getting a peppery flavor too which actually I kind of like but it does not make up for a serious LACK of flavor in the tea overall.
Sometimes I get a slight hint of something yummy then I take another sip and its dishwater – not that I have actually drank dish water, but ugh this one is getting dumped just because it is freaking me out.
Sorry.
<3 Love to Indigobloom for sharing this with me regardless.

Indigobloom

ahhh so many misses from my pile! lol

Kittenna

Oh trust me, there were lots from the samples I sent her too! But a couple hits for which I am happy :)

Azzrian

LOL I am dying laughing here – am I just hard to please?

Indigobloom

nah, but it makes it that much sweeter when there’s a hit! ;)

Azzrian

LOL well thanks I am POSITIVE I am going to absolutely LOVE some of these! And the strawberry one WAS a hit (forget the name right now) but it was so much like 52Teas that was the only real drawback but it was VERY good :)

Indigobloom

heh, funny how that happens sometimes. I can’t help but compare certain teas and pit them against each other in my head!

Kittenna

I always do that, and more than just in my head :D It’s all over my tasting notes, haha.

drank Oh Canada Maple by Tealish

I bought this to see how it would compare with Davids’ Oh Canada, but they are just so different! Davids’ is like rooibos and MAPLE, and this one is a bit more subdued. I actually didn’t expect to like this one so much. The smell of the tea is like a light black tea with a background of maple, it smells sweet and lovely. The taste is kind of like maple-vanilla perfectly blended with black tea. It’s just slightly malty and sooo delicious. I could see this being a great morning tea. I get a little astringency, but not much. The aftertaste verges on bitter, so I take another sip of the tea haha.

drank Mount Everest by Tealish

Well I tried it iced and it wasn’t bad! I think I put too much agave in though. The spiced toastiness comes through in a kind of weird way, it could be interesting/nice to other people but I prefer really sweet iced teas haha. So yeah, nice and fruity at first but then the aftertaste is a little weird. I’ll be drinking this one hot mostly.

drank Mount Everest by Tealish

The only thing I don’t like about Tealish is how similar so many of their teas are to blends from Davids. So I went in there this time looking for something totally different from anything I had tried before. I think I did pretty well!
This seemed like a kind of intimidating tea at first, with all the different kinds of tea and the corn and curry leaves and all. But the package promised a light, refreshing cup and the leaves smelled so nice. The brewed tea smells very fruity! I can barely pick up any spice. And it is indeed light and refreshing. It tastes fruity with a light green tea taste, and I think the spice comes through in the background. I can almost feel it more than taste it, if that makes sense. This tastes amazing but it’s hard to describe!
I’m kind of surprised how much I like this. The website suggests icing it and I think this would definitely be amazing iced!

drank Citrus Grove by Tealish

I had so much hope for this one. Sadly for me, there was just too much ginger. It combined strongly with the lemon grass to make a blend that just wasn’t loved by me. So sad.

I’m so glad I had a chance to try this, as I’ve been eying it up for some time now. Good thing it was just a sample though, as I couldn’t bear to finish the cup… I’m sorry Lemon Meringue Rooibos, you smell so very yummy! but ya do bad things to me :(

nomadinjeopardy

Oh no! What did it do to you?

Bonnie

Did it make you a Bad Girl!

Indigobloom

Just made me slightly nauseous. Had trouble swallowing it.
It made me feel guilty for not liking it!! does that count lol

Bonnie

OOOOOOOH Guilt! You might have to drink strong oversteeped Carrot Cake before bed…oh yeh aren’t you the only one who likes Carrot Cake! Not Fair!

nomadinjeopardy

Yikes! That’s too bad. Definitely good that you were able to try it before buying.

Indigobloom

me? noooo way lol
I tried a sample in store, it was terrible! gotta find another sacrifice to make haha

Indigobloom

Jessie: I agree, thanks so much for the sample!! it breaks my heart that this is out of my tea range :(

Did a very short steep after reading the reviews – I didn’t taste the bad stuff yay!
It certianly wasn’t my favorite though. Almost a c… cardboardy quality to it, but it was still enjoyable and I didn’t have to dump it!

Actually, I know this will only be helpful to a select few, but if you are one of the people who LOVE DavidsTea’s Carrot Cake, this tea is for you! Blending them would be a neat experiment… but I’m getting almost an identical flavour profile for the base.

Very very interesting. Anyways, it’s up in my swap now! So if you’re interested, check out the swap thread!

Erin

Gah! Carrot Cake is one of my favourite teas!

Daisy Chubb

if I have any left after this quick swap I’ll send it to you after I move to Halifax! :D

Erin

That would be awesome!! I’m so curious to try it now :DDD

drank La Creme by Tealish

I found myself craving this one all day! It’s on its way to becoming a favourite. I wish it was good for more than one steep but it gets weak and weird on the second infusion. Bah. At this rate I’ll have to go back to Tealish soon.

This is my first tea from Tealish. The dry leaves smell sooooo good and vanilla-y! The tea itself is just like what it says— black tea with vanilla. It’s not so much creamy as it is vanilla-y but, just like David’s Cream of Earl Grey, it gets creamier as it cools. Overall I say very good! The black tea is smooth and rich and with the vanilla it’s a perfect and simple dessert or morning tea.

Wow… I have tried this tea maybe 4 times, 3 hot and 1 iced. I cannot, for the life of me, figure out a way to make it enjoyable. I keep blaming it on the steeping, but I think it’s safe to say after 4 tries that this is not my cup of tea. I won’t rate it, because it seems wrong. I think it’s the mix of citrus and floral notes that are turning me off.. and maybe even the carrot. I’m going to keep trying because I think this tea should be good, and I need to somehow make my 50 grams disappear, but there is little hope in this one.

drank Patisserie by Tealish

I’m not going to rate this one, because I couldn’t finish the cup :(

The spices in this are spices I use in my homemade taco seasoning… so all I small are tacos. And when I brew it, all I smell are tacos. It doesn’t taste at all like tacos! But the smell is enough to turn me away. So! Keep an eye out when I’m ready for my next swap, because this one will be in it :)

Mercuryhime

This reminds me of the time I had exotica from David’s tea. All I could taste was Thai curry. Buy by my 5th cup or so, I was enjoying it as it was meant to be enjoyed.

Dinosara

Totally the cumin. Who puts cumin in a tea?? I can’t even handle peppercorns in tea usually. And I’m pretty sure I’ve never encountered a cumin-spiced anything in a Parisian patisserie.

nomadinjeopardy

It is a really odd choice! I use cumin a lot but am careful with it because I can find it really overwhelming. So I’m surprised I like this tea. I’m sorry you didn’t!

Daisy Chubb

It’s okay gal pals! One bad egg out of my entire order is okay by me :D Although.. I haven’t tried the caramel oolong yet and that one got horrible reviews.. so we’ll see how that goes too heh

Derp! As long as I’ve been drinking tea, I’ve taken it with sugar. All tea, no exceptions. That’s just how I do it. However last night, while I was making tea for myself, my wife, and loading the dishwasher, I somehow managed to forget the sugar. I’m almost to 700 tea reviews on this site and I’ve never forgotten. Derp.

That being said, it wasn’t bad! I did take a sip and wonder where the flavor had gone, and I can totally see now how people who are used to sugary drinks and taste unsweetened tea and think it tastes like lightly flavored water. I’m sure if you’re used to unsweetened tea, it’s amazing. I just needed a touch of sugar in this to be happy. But it was very good, and even though I messed it up, I enjoyed it. I will rate it next time I make it my usual way XD

Thwarted again by hibiscus. First few sips were nice enough, peachy with hibicus. But then I started eating one of my blueberry brown sugar flax cookies with it and all I could taste was the hibiscus. Not gonna rate it right now and will retry later but…I’m starting to think that if you’re not a hibiscus fan, tealish may not be for you. Everything with hibiscus in it for me has been overwhelming to the point that all I taste is the hibiscus.

KeenTeaThyme

Hibiscus seems to be the least liked flavor of tea; I agree. When it’s paired with something it can be somewhat tolerable. But on its own, ICK. Guess I’ll be avoiding Tealish!

I’ve had this tea in my cupboard for awhile but didn’t add it to my cupboard here. I don’t have it that often and had a cup last night. It is very delicious. A cream lemon rooibos. Yes, the tin is almost empty but I have enjoyed every cup. Almost want to run out and get more but my cupboard is pretty full…..

Flavors: Lemon Zest
