A longer steeping seems to improve the taste somewhat – or maybe it’s just that my tongue is still asleep.

I made a kind of crude chai latte this morning, steeping the tea in a mug that was 2/3 hot water and 1/3 milk and when it was done I added a teaspoon of honey. The results were pleasently sweet and creamy-tasting, although this tea still tastes too much like cinnamon heart candies.

Urgh, morning came too early (again) but at least I have this tea to keep me company. Here’s hoping all the studying I did last night paid off and I do well on my Policy&Planning test first thing at school.

Drank this with milk this morning.

calebcherry

do you mean you just creamed the tea with milk or you warmed milk with the teabag?

Jillian

No, I just added some skim milk after it was done steeping. I’d like to do a traditional-style chai one of these days but I either lack the time or am too lazy. ;)

setownsend

Great way to have it, with milk. Good choice.

Jillian

Thanks. :) Most chais are too harsh for me to drink plain, although I try to be careful not to drown the flavour either when I add stuff.

Had a cup with milk this morning. Not really a fan – too cinnamony no matter what I do to it – so I’m trying to drink it up so I can get something I like better.

Very cinnamon-y! The taste and smell remind me a bit of those cinnamon heart candies you get at Valentine’s Day. I prefer a chai with a bit more balanced spice flavours. Still it isn’t horrible, and it goes nicely with lots of milk.

This is a tisane that I cannot drink plain. The lemon flavor is just too overpowering. The ingredients on the website lists “lemon flavoring” along with the lemongrass. I think they should have left out the “flavoring” and just have stuck with the natural flavor of the lemongrass. That said, mix a pinch with your morning breakfast tea, and you add a nice zest to your morning.

Don’t get me wrong, I do like this tisane, but it is a little weird. The smell of wood is what throws me off, but it is a very good drink with a little bit of honey and milk. If you can get past the smell of wood :).

This is a delicious tea. It is great in the afternoon to tide you over ’till dinner. Drink it plain.

This is a good breakfast tea, nice and strong. Goes great with Irish (steel cut) oatmeal!

Maybe I am not a big fan of plain green tea, but I always have to mix some Jasmine tea with this green tea for me to drink it. I can’t drink it plain.

I buy the loose version in bulk. Good morning standard.

drank Chai Green by Stash Tea Company

I steeped this for slightly less time than before and that helped a bit. It has an interesting odor reminiscent of spiced apple cider or maybe those ‘Christmas scented’ potpourries. Taste-wise the chai spices are still too much for this tea unfortunately and they’re just too harsh on the tongue to be really enjoyable.

If you want a loose leaf version, try Adagio’s, bengal green chai.

Like the regular chai this one has a bit too much cinnamon. After drinking it for awhile I’m noticing a slightly bitter aftertaste that milk might eliminate but I’m hesitant to add milk to something with a green tea base. I’ll give it a try on the next cup maybe.

I think I might have developed a small tolerance to bergamot because most times normal earl greys don’t quiet satisfy my tea hunger anymore. I think someday I might just be drinking bergamot straight from the bottle. Stash really does an excellent job with this tea. It’s quality I would have expected from Twinings (normally I don’t care for Stash tea).
I don’t know how I would have graduated high school without this tea. It was my morning fuel (besides breakfast). It was my cure-all for any sickness I might have had and my favorite tea in health.
If I had to marry a tea it would be this tea.

So, this time round all I got was citrus and gross. It felt like I’d eaten a half way rotting orange. Thankfully I got the two bags in a trade so I don’t have to drink any more.

Bleh. I’ve been trying to find some depth to it, but its really just bland. The citrus is kind of an afterthought and the bergamot doesn’t really cut it.

Jillian

I’m pretty sure Stash makes a ’Double Bergamot" Earl Grey aswell so that might be worth a shot.

It has a slight smokiness but it’s a good basic English Breakfast blend, strong enough to get me going in the morning.

Jillian

I’ve often wonder how Stash’s loose teas compare to their bagged teas (which are so-so in my opinion). What do you think of them?

Carolyn

They’re ok. The Stash loose tea has larger leaves than the Twinings loose tea and a bit more complexity in taste. But it doesn’t compare with the wonderful Golden Moon or Holy Mountain or Upton Tea selections. I am drinking it mournfully missing my beautiful Sinharaja.

I used cooler water this time and I didn’t steep it as long (3.5 minutes) and it actually came out pretty decent. Green tea was the predominent flavour but the black tea managed to sneak in there aswell. I think treating this like a plain green tea is the way to go to get the most out of it.

This one is so-so, I can taste both the green and black but I don’t think mixing these two types of teas really does it any favors. If anything you sort of loose the distinct flavours of each one.

Should I add milk to this? The tea is a little bitter without, but adding it to a green tea is a no no.
