This is, I believe, the second to last matcha I recently picked up in the “buy five, get two free” package that I am splitting with a friend. We chose the following options:
Size: Small (30g)
Matcha Quality: Classic (Basic Grade)
Matcha Type: Regular
Flavor Level: Delicate
When I asked my friend what flavors appealed to her, she instantly named this one. I had actually already received a sample from the awesomely generous Sil and so I knew that I really liked this one and was more than happy to get more.
Now that I have tried the strawberries and cream matcha, I think I personally prefer that (although I think that is more a reflection of my extreme love of strawberry milkshakes and less a reflection of the matchas themselves) but this is still amazing! I mixed half a teaspoon with 8 oz. of milk and the result is creamy, fruity, and delicious. I would say when compared to strawberries and cream, this is less sweet and a touch fruitier, just as raspberries tend to be not as sweet as strawberries.
In my opinion, this is more reflective of berries and whip cream whereas strawberries and cream is more reminiscent of a tasty, tasty milkshake. Both amazing in their own right but I would certainly recommend this for someone who enjoys raspberries with the perfect touch of creaminess. It can be found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/raspberry-and-cream-matcha.html
Flavors: Berries, Cream
This matcha makes for a tasty cup every time. Sweet and creamy with a hint of berry tartness to round things out. Thanks Sil!!
you know, i was a keystroke away from buying from red leaf the other day, but it’s just too expensive compared to the amount i would get…. but this is one of the flavours that tempts me most….
It is quite tasty. I am sort of wary cuz of the price but honestly I think I have like 2 cups per day so it is getting to the point where I know I reach for this so I might as well just man up and buy. With that said, I sort of lucked out because I shared some matcha with a friend and she liked it so much she was going to place an order herself and then we decided instead to buy together and get the buy 5, get 2. That way we can try more and if we don’t like any flavors we are not stuck with a whole lot that cost us a bunch.
Decided to have this in a cold glass of milk. I am actually enjoying it quite a bit today. The raspberry is really shining through and the milk helps to enhance the creaminess. Yum!! Sil, I really can’t thank you enough for your generosity. I wonder how the strawberries and cream compares = perhaps I will have to pick that up in a future order.
After the success I had with the Belgium Chocolate matcha this morning, I decided to try some of this in cold milk as well. Though I personally prefer it as a hot latte, it was still creamy and delicious with a hint of raspberry to round it out. Now I am debating about placing an order with Red Leaf Tea since Cookies and Cream (which I really enjoyed) and Bavarian Cream (the one matcha I REALLY want to taste) are both on sale. Alas, I am getting close to maxing out my credit card and so I am wondering if I should take that as a sign that no more tea should be purchased. I have about 8.5 hours to decide. Anyways, thank you Sil for sending me a sample of this to taste.
I have both, if you want me to send you some? I thought I sent you some Bavarian Cream. Mind you, I did get a small package of it, which really is very small.
haha thank you for your offer but you have already sent me so much. I have never tried the Bavarian Cream but it does sound delicious and people seem to review it positively. It is on sale so perhaps I will order it and since I have an address in the US I can send it to, shipping is just under $3. I have bought so much tea this weekend already though and I am wondering if it is just overkill at this point haha.
Lol. We’re all addicted. I’m going to refrain telling you just how much tea I bought this weekend…. ;) If you’re enjoying it though, get it! It’s delicious.
I got a sample of this, distinctive flavor, from Sil!
Having never tried matcha before I was so excited to have this new tea experience. I assume this probably does not resemble the taste of a true matcha much but I was still super excited given all the positive things I have read about the different flavored matchas. Thanks Sil for giving me the oppurtunity!!
Anyways, as soon as I opened my package from Sil I ran upstairs with my tea and asked my roommate how to make it. With her guidance I was able to successfully brew a cup and I am a fan. This tasted just like a creamy raspberry treat!
I actually tried this a few different ways:
1. I had 1/2 tsp straight in hot water just so I could try it without any additions. It had a nice consistency – I frothed it with the milk frother since I don’t have a matcha whisk. I thought it tasted great. The raspberry flavor came through quite nicely with a hint of natural creaminess.
2. I then took some of the tea and added it to frothed milk to try this as a latte. This, as would be expected, brought out the creamy flavor and complimented the raspberry quite nicely.
3. I added a bit of Teavana’s White Gold honey to the latte. The tea did not particularly need it but my roommate suggested it might be good. The honey enhanced the sweetness but not to the point that it was too sweet.
4. Because I liked the honey in the latte I tried some in the little bit of the plain matcha I left in the cup. Here too it added just a hint of sweetness that enhanced the flavors of the matcha.
Every way I had it, this tea was great! I am excited to try all the other samples I have from Sil. If they are as good as this was I will probably be placing a Red Leaf order soon.
Also I think it would be interesting to try out some plain matcha to see how it compares to the flavored stuff.
Once again, Thanks Sil!!
YAY! I’m glad you enjoyed this. Before you order, try the robust caramel and see how you like the flavouring. I started my red leaf journey ordering everything in robust flavouring and then dropped down to distinctive. There are a few flavours that i’ve found work better as robust, and a few that work better as delicate but so far, distinctive seems to be a good spot most of the time.
hmmmmm, i don’t know the first thing about matcha either. i’ve looked up red leaf: interesting flavours. what kindof consistency? gritty? fluffy?
Just James – if you think you want tog I’ve it a go, just send me a note..happy to send you some to try, do a mini swap, whatever.
Sil, you are like the matcha supplier to all the matcha newbies it seems.
As for the consistency, I found this particular cup very smooth. However today I tried the caramel matcha and did not mix it quite as well so the powder was not thoroughly mixed in to the water. Although the only reason I knew the powder wasn’t mixed properly was because I saw it seperated – I didn’t get a gritty texture or lumps or anything like that.
@sil…. would love to do a mini swap…. you might like ‘hello sweetie’!! but i can’t message you. we’re only one way friends and the system is very judgmental that way, lol.
haha yeah i swear i thought i was following you from earlier but i guess not. fixed that :)
Variatea – yeah um i have a lot of it, as a result i’m more than happy to share with people now that i’ve figured out how to send it haha especially since it’s a bit of an expense for those of us in canada who want to order it just to try it.
Oh my goodness, this is caramel cappuccino awesomeness in a powder! I didn’t have my matcha whisk, because it’s in storage, but I made do with an egg whisk (don’t shoot me, it’s all I had!), and it seemed to work just fine. I brewed it up in 3 parts water and 1 part milk, and sweet hallelujah, it was so delicious!! I just kept sipping and sipping and sipping, completely unable to put it down until it was gone. It didn’t need sugar one bit. I’m so glad I’ve finally gotten to see what all the fuss is about with Red Leaf’s flavored matchas. This one, at least, gets an A+! If they have any more of this, I will be ordering it.
Preparation
One scoop matcha, 3/4 almond milk, and 1/4 1% milk. Ran out of almond milk! :(
I think I may like this equally to, or even more than my caramel matcha. I’m putting this on my list as a “seasonal” repurchase. It’s so ridiculously creamy with the milk, and the spices are at a nice level.
Everyone seems to start out with the Caramel, and its good and all, but I’ve found some of the other flavors to be superior as well. My fave is the coconut so far :)
I wish I could afford this! I’m soooo jealous. And I’m in with Stephanie coconut and white matcha are my favorites so far.
I don’t know about the regular coconut matcha, but the coconut matchaccino has become an accidental permanent resident at my parent’s place. They also think it’s the best flavour :)
I agree with Stephanie- a coconut flavoured white matcha base sounds amazing. What flavoring level do both of you normally get?
Distinctive level, white matcha base. I was worried this flavour level would be weak but the pumpkin spices are what they say they are, “distinctive” (Edit: correction, got my own flavour level mixed up). Maybe the gentle white matcha is playing a role in the prominence of the flavoring, or maybe this is just a good amount of pumpkin pie for me!
I used two scoops in almond milk, and blended it up with half a banana. This a rich and creamy beverage. It’s also mixes well with a little bit of spiced whiskey and some vanilla bean ice cream.
I haven’t been drinking this for the last week or two due to illness, prefering instead to drink up some of the teas I’m not as big a fan of or stick to orange juice. God I’ve missed it. Best way to ‘wake up’, even if I was wandering around the house for a few hours before this got made. The ONLY problem I have with it is that I never fail to get a large amount of it on the bottom of the cup that didn’t get mixed in. I’ve tried my spoon scraping, I’ve tried using my milk frother, its super frustrating. Any tips?
Let me say first off, that this is my first foray into Matcha. As I didn’t have the proper supplies, someone suggested I use my french press to get a froth, so thats what I did.
This…this is heaven in a cup. I think I used far too little Matcha powder after reading things up online, the ‘how to’s’ I read online about how to make it with the press had said use a teaspoon. I’m assuming their stuff was different because using that much here I got mildly flavored milk, but it was still delicious. It strikes me as a good alternative for a day when I’m craving hot chocolate but wanting something with a little more oomph.
This was sent to me from TeaSipper, and I’m really thankful for the ability to try it without paying an exorbanant amount for something I may not end up liking.
Super pleased with this, going to try more here in a moment with more powder because I really think the flavor being upped some wouldn’t be a bad thing at all.
I’m glad you like it! This is matchaccino though, different from a matcha serving. My bag comes with a scoop that IS bigger than a teaspoon.. I don’t know how much exactly.. it could be a tablespoon.
Unfortunately I didn’t immediately fall in love with this flavor like I did with the caramel. I found it to be lacking just a little bit in the taste and texture department. I was really hoping for a little bit more sweetness and a creamy texture similar to pumpkin pie, but it was missing both of those things. Part of this could easily be solved by adding more sugar, but I’m trying to eliminate sugar from my diet and this already has a fair amount in it. Instead I decided to blend my pumpkin pie and caramel MATCHAccino together and the results were fantastic.
I found that a 1:1 ratio of pumpkin pie to caramel is nearly perfect for me. The caramel adds some of the sweetness back in that I was really missing without covering up the spices that make this taste like pumpkin pie. It also adds a wonderful creamy texture to the latte, although it is still missing the pumpkin flavor. Now the only thing that could make this better would be a huge dollop of whipped cream on top.
Come read the rest of the review over on my blog:

Blended with frozen pineapple chunks and almond milk. SO AMAZING. Coconut + pineapple = love. Seriously. Plus, caffeine. So it’s all good. I’m glad I decided to get frozen pineapple today. If the weather stays nice, I see some more coconut pineapple smoothies in my future.
And now, for a walk. :)
(So I have the Striiv app on my phone now. Anyone else have it? Wanna ‘compete’? :D )
Coconut and pineapple somehow takes an ingredient I’m not fussy about at all (coconut) and elevates it into something magic. This is genius.
One day you might be going through your cupboard, and might come across your coconut matchaccino, the stuff you haven’t had in a while because of Too Much Tea syndrome.
And you might also have dark chocolate silk almond milk in your fridge. This might give you an idea that you think might be awesome.
And so you mix the matchaccino and chocolate milk together, and your idea is validated. It’s sweet, because both items have sugar, but it is so delicious. Dark chocolate and coconut belong together…
Mmm.
