I had tried the Earl Grey green Matcha from Red Leaf but I really wanted to try the black tea base too, since black tea and bergamot seem to just … work better … at least in my opinion. I went with the distinctive level of flavoring here and this is one case where I wish I would have gone with the delicate level of flavoring because it just goes too much bergamot with the distinctive level of flavoring.

Now, I’m all for a good strong amount of bergamot, but, here, it was just too much for my palate. However, this particular Earl Grey Matcha (with the distinctive level of flavoring) is excellent as a latte … especially good with vanilla almond milk! It’s also not bad when blended with Honey flavored Greek Kefir.

OK, this is the last of my backlog entries for this evening … unless I get to a point sometime this evening where I can’t sleep. (It’s been known to happen.)

I really like this Passion Fruit Matcha. Sweet, fruity, tart, and unlike the Kiwi Matcha that I previously reviewed, I didn’t find this to be a “candied” fruit taste and I’m happy about that. The sweet-tart taste of the passion fruit pairs nicely with the sweet, buttery, smooth taste of the matcha.

Really good in smoothies too!

This is one of those things that got buried in the back of my cabinet so I forgot I had it… For the record: it makes an excellent addition to a banana milkshake. (… I might just start adding it to everything now, just to see how it goes…)

Wow, this stuff is pretty addicting. I got it because it was on sale, and my 5 oz package disappeared in just a few days… I didn’t bother using the blender, I just shook it up in a mason jar with whole milk and a dash of cream. I tried it with almond milk too, but I wasn’t a fan of that particular combo.

HOLY COW IS THIS DELICIOUS.

I just followed the directions on the insert for the cold version (hot water, ice, and then milk… only half and half instead of milk because I don’t have plain milk). This is amazing.

I can’t wait to try this in different methods. YUM.

Thanks to Red Leaf Tea for having this on super discount so I could try it without fear. I’ll definitely be buying more matcha from them!

(I need to also buy some milk…)

Christina

Your description of this is persuasive. I think I’m going to have to buy some.

This is the whoops on discount sale here:

Go for the large size. Totally worth it.

Backlog:

I’m not a huge fan of raisins, mind you. I mean, I like them alright, but, they aren’t something I’d actually buy unless I have a recipe that calls for them and I didn’t think the recipe would do well with a Craisins substitute. However, I was intrigued by this Raisin flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea. Not only is it kind of a rarity to find a raisin flavored tea, but, occasionally, I’ll find a black tea that has a raisin-y quality to it and I really enjoy that … so I thought, you know, I’m going to try the Matcha.

I mean, I thought about how the sugary sweetness of the dried fruit might meld quite nicely with the buttery, sweet, vegetative taste of Matcha. And as I sit here typing this, I am also thinking that it would go really well with the black Matcha as well … so I think that once I get my tea stash under some semblance of control, I might be placing that order! YUM!

This Matcha reminds me a bit of the Fig Matcha, and that’s not a bad thing at all because I LOVED the fig matcha!

Interesting…not sure how I feel about raisin as a matcha flavour lol

I got this from Stephanie as a generous thank you for our recent swap. And guess what little missy?! I loved it!!! Soooooo CREAMY! Sooooo Soooooo COCONUT-TY! And Sooooo Sooooo Sooooo DELICIOUS! I had this as an iced latte and a frapp:) Drinking all these matchas from her lately want me to buy some really bad! But this broke college student has no money to her name seeing as its the end of the month:/ I will have to put money away each paycheck for tea even if its only $5 each time. DESPERATION! ha ha ha. Well thank you for this little thank you package Stephanie.

Maybe this is stale but I’m not tasting/smelling chai at all – it’s more like hot milky drink, but I’m enjoying it. And if it comes with a caffeine boost: BONUS.

This one is interesting. It smells so much like sweet, creamy, pistachio. Reminds me of pistachio pudding. But it does not taste like pistachio. Still very good though.

I made this one cold shaken in about 8 oz water, 1tsp matcha. It smelled fairly sweet so I didn’t add any sweetener. I had robust flavour, basic grade.

It tastes definitely nutty. Not specifically pistachio but along the same lines as a rich creamy nut flavour. There is a light spice to it as well. I am thinking of cinnamon. Reminds me of Christmas Eve for some reason.

Not what I expected but still very good. Those are the invests surprises!

Fjellrev

No chemical smell or taste? Every since trying the macadamia nut and getting tons of chemical from that one, I’m too chicken to try any other nutty blends.

Lala

I didn’t get any chemical smell of taste. I had robust flavour, basic grade. I had a chemical taste with the peach matcha and that kinda put me off of e fruit flavoured ones. Just not sure what flavours to order. Seems to be kind of hit and miss.

Fjellrev

Good to know because I haven’t tried any of the fruit flavoured ones yet. It’s definitely a gamble.

Half milk & half water today, idk, I had it with just hot water last time and I can’t decide which I liked better (although I kept smelling/tasting nori without the milk :P) but …yum! I’m not awake enough to rate things. I like not having to worry about steeping with matcha. MORNING ADVANTAGES.

I pretty much suck at making matcha at home. And I think I ruined this sample from Incendiare from out latest swap. Can’t wait for our local Matcha Meetup so I can learn how to make it at home better. And do fun things with it.

Fjellrev

Haha how can you ruin matcha?

Plunkybug

I think I had water that was too hot. All I got was bitter and thin, so maybe too much water, too, but I added water to cut the bitter some. Maybe I didn’t whisk right either.

YUM! I loved the green base for the caramel flavoring for Red Leaf Tea’s matcha … but I think I might just like the black tea base even better. The rich, robust flavor of the black tea complements the decadent, creamy, burnt sugar sweetness of the caramel flavoring.

In a bit of a hurry, but thought I’d write a quick note about this before I head out. Will write a more thorough review in the future.

Smooth, creamy, can definitely taste the caramel/coconut. A bit too sweet for my taste (then again, I try to keep my sugar intake on the low side). I got the lower grade version that’s on sale— still very impressed. The mix made from the good stuff must be phenomenal.

Made with 2% milk shaken up in my coffee/flavoured tea tumbler. Since my flatmates and I never did get around to buying a new blender when ours broke. Whoops. Still managed to get a bit of froth by shaking for a minute, to my surprise!

Even though it’s a little too sweet for my tastes, still good for the occasional drink— very enjoyable and ridiculously simple to make! Can definitely understand why many are raving about it. Glad I got to try it out!

Unsweetened almond milk, hemp matcha, 1/2 tsp sugar.

Whisked up for ages because of lumps. I think I finally managed to get most of them out. I might need a frother, just because my Mad Whisking Skillz are disintegrating.

It’s pretty nice. Just… nutty. A little green. I don’t think I’d buy it, though. I prefer the fruity flavours. Or caramel. Thanks, CrowKettle! I’ve finally finished all the samples you gave me. :)

I am at home with the plague, and decided to have matcha. Why? IDK. Honestly, a nap would be super nice right about now but I’m not sure I’d be able to get to sleep.

As a latte, with sugar. Yes, normal sugar. It’s creamy and mildly flavoured. What does hemp taste like? It’s a little nutty, I guess. It doesn’t taste like much.

I’m almost out of matcha samples. This one is from CrowKettle, and I only have one serving left!

This seems like such a weird flavour to me.

OMGsrsly

It’s more like hemp seeds than anything. Nutty, creamy, grassy.

MissB

Oh gosh, I can help you with more samples if you’d like… feel better soon!

Fjellrev

Nooooooo, I hope you feel better soon!

OMGsrsly

I really don’t need more tea!! :) The matcha is fun, but I think just having a plain one in my cupboard is enough. I like it but can’t drink it every day.

This plague is terrible, Fjellrev! I really needed to go to work today but couldn’t manage it. :/

__Morgana__

It does seem weird. Before I read the bit about the seeds I wondered if it tasted like rope.

OMGsrsly

Actually… hemp rope almost smells nutty too. And grassy, like hay baking in the sun. :)

Blergh. The new font on the new website does NOT scale well for my zoom program. The one I use so I can read things on the internets. What’s a good scaleable font? I need to change my defaults, I think, because this is TERRIBLE AND ANNOYING. Otherwise, this is pretty slick.

I had this this morning as a latte. So good. Almond milk, matcha whisked in, guzzled. Doesn’t really taste like anything except maybe a little nutty. But the caffeine was welcome as I worked this morning and then went to a trade show for 10 hours. Oof.

I’m using Arial for now. So terrible. Why, Arial, why?

OMGsrsly

Oh, and I used 2/3 tsp, or 0.67 tsp. Obviously using 0 tsp doesn’t really work. :)

CrowKettle

Yeah, the tsp thing rounds down. Agree about the font being super annoying too.

This one is from CrowKettle a while back.

I thought I’d tried it, but apparently not! Anyways, the flavour is greatly diminished, or it’s something that’s not readily teased out for me. It’s a tasty matcha, a little bit nutty, a little bit sweet. I had it as a cold latte (as usual) and did enjoy it.

I’m curious how it tastes fresh, and how it tastes to other people (gotta read those reviews!). It’d be worth picking up, as the flavour seems like it would blend well with others.

Nxtdoor

I love seeing how people seem to pick the same teas in a day, seemingly independent of each other. KittyLovesTea had this just this morning. You probably don’t follow each other — at least I know you don’t follow her, I haven’t bothered checking the other way around. Anyway, since you mentioned wanting to see others’ review, well, there’s a fresh one from her.

OMGsrsly

:) I saw that one earlier, but didn’t realize it was from today too!

HEAVEN on EARTH! The oh so generous Stephanie sent me this in a thank you package that arrived today and I could not wait to try it! It was soooooo delicious. You definitely do NOT need sugar and is so naturally sweet. You can taste the caramel right away and the scent it very creamy and sweet. I absolutely love it! Great alternate to the one i usually get at my local coffee shop here i San Luis Obispo. I added some brown sugar the second time and did it with soy and that was delicious as well! I’m so sad I’m all out:/ matcha is just not in my budget and that makes me so sad. Oh well. Until next time. We shall meet again. Hopefully sooner than later. Thank you so much for this!

Another lunch time cold soy milk matcha late to aid my NCIS LA marathon this morning. As for this matcha it’s been something I’ve wanted to try for a while. I have tried hemp flavoured water before after seeing it in a local shop and liked it very much. Strength of this matcha is robust.

This one is interesting, I can taste the green tea but there is also something a little herby, grassy and floral there which must be the hemp. They work well together, it’s a green tea that has more depth and flavour without being too different. Very nice.

Ze_Teamaker

I wonder how it would taste in brownies…..
