911 Tasting Notes
Very fruity. And that’s pretty much all I can say about it. Very fruity. Maybe a little too fruity to be something I truly love, but still good. Oddly though, I taste blueberries, but there are no blueberries. So either blackberry + mango + peach = blueberries or I’m nuts. Either is possible.
Yuck! Rooibos = nastiness. And based on this tea, flavored Rooibos = even more nastiness. No way am I finishing this.
Aww, I like Rooibos. Also, I would think that this log would deter me from wanting to try the Zodiac tea I got from Adagio, but…I’m going in.
The only Zodiac tea I’ve tried is the Cancer one so I could be talking out of my ass, but the flavour combination sounds a little strange. I sorta get camomille + orange flavour, but vanilla oolong??
I try to like Rooibos, but I can’t. It’s got a funny taste that makes me feel like it was in too close of contact with a nasty, post-shipping box. The type that you take from the UPS guy and put down only to realize that the box has covered your hands and clothes with dirt from it’s surface.
In the series’ defense, I’ve tried a fair number of the teas in it and this is the only one that I couldn’t at least enjoy a bit.
@Jillian: I don’t really get the combo either… I can see orange + vanilla, but why vanilla oolong? It makes me especially sad since I’m a Leo. I should at least like my own Zodiac tea. :(
I like rooiboses normally but this one just sounds odd. The orange and vanilla parts sound okay but the oolong and chamomile parts do not at all.
Now I have to go look up my Zodiac tea. I’m a Virgo.
I definitely agree. I don’t like rooibos much. I can drink it if a have to, but I never make it at home. I’ve got a whole tin of it just wasting away because I have the hardest time making myself throw away tea even if it’s not actually real tea. I just can’t. The only times I drink it is when I’m ill and proper tea tastes weird. I was told once that rooibos with quince was absolutely miraculously fantastic on ice. Fantastically disgusting yes, but I guess that’s not what they meant.
Don’t feel bad about not liking your zodiac tea. I dislike peach in tea and mine was severely peach-y. I gave it to a colleague.
I had high hopes for this tea after I smelled it – I thought it might compete with Teavana’s Rose Marzipan for a place in my heart. Well, it doesn’t quite make it but it’s close. I feel like it needs just a little extra something to make it really wow me. It’s sweet and I love the almond with the vanilla peeking out at the end but maybe a touch of maple or something would add that oomph I want it to have. Also, it tastes a little thin but I’m not sure how to change that. I made it strong enough that I can feel the affects of the caffeine so I’m not sure how to make the taste bolder without causing someone at work to beat me with a hole-punch due to hyperactivity.
I’m mixed on this tea. I was expecting the tea equivalent of a kick to the head with stoutness on this one but it turned out not that way at all. Yeah, it’s strong and I can feel the caffeine running through my veins. But taste wise it wasn’t as overpowering as I expected.
But I think I’m going to have to stick to my previous thoughts of just not liking Assam. There is something about Assam… it, to me, tastes like cardboard smells. So I’m drinking this enjoyable tea and then get a ending taste like I licked a shipping box (which no, I don’t do regularly) and the taste only comes up with things that have Assam in them.
So here’s my question: how crazy am I? Is it the maltiness of the Assam that reminds me of cardboard? Or am I just getting bad Assams that actually taste of cardboard?
I’m sure that I’ve had Assam, but I either had no idea what I was drinking when that was what I was drinking, or I’m unaware that it’s in tea I’m drinking currently. So, to answer your questions…okay!
Oh, and @East Side Rob had some interesting thoughts on Assam that I read recently.
I think I’ve figured (and ESR’s post drove home) that I’m going to have to get an Assam that I know is good quality and see how that goes… which is why I’m totally eying the World Tea Champion Sampler on Steepster Select right now. Because I apparently need more reasons to buy tea.
Who needs actual food in my pantry? I’m gonna clean it all out so I have more room for tea!
Bah, you can never have too much tea! ;)
I think the World Championship Sampler looks neat too, sadly I’m all out of money, plus I already caved once and bough the Harney & Sons oolong that was on special.
Yep, I’m pretty sure I’ll cave by the end of the day and get it. I’m already thinking of things I could move around to make a little more tea room on the pantry shelf. It started out on the short side of a U-shaped shelf and has gradually been creeping ’round the bend.
I’ll keep a look out for your thoughts on the H&S’s… I managed not to buy it but it was close.
I can’t find anything about this tea online and that makes me grumpy. I also have no idea what a currant is supposed to taste like so I don’t really know if this tea misses the mark or not on that.
Overally, not hugely in love with this tea. The end just seems a little flat. But I won’t have much of a problem finishing up the sample so that counts for something. And whether this is a true currant flavor or not, it’s a good flavor (kinda tastes a bit like starfruit) so that’s nice.
Honestly, I think I’m just becoming pickier and pickier with flavored teas. It’s like I try to hold them to the same flavor profile standards as my oolongs. And yeah, that doesn’t really work.
Valentines alone is too tart or something for me – I’m not a big fan. But I always like it with cream to mellow it out, so I like this. However, I brewed this a bit too strong so it is not as calming as I had hoped, since I’m freaking out about my kitty possibly having a UTI and also a little caffeine-jittery… I’ll know at 3:30 about kitty-girl and hopefully I won’t feel so over-caffeinated by then.
After wasting pretty much my entire day doing no work but instead reading through the site Texts From Last Night (thanks takgoti, I totally blame you!) tea has been the most worthwhile thing I’ve done today.
I’m actually liking this one more as it gets older (seems less salty which is something that can keep me away from Chinese greens). I keep thinking I don’t really like this tea so I don’t drink it. Then I figure I really need to use the tea so I can use the tin. So I make some and realize that this is actually really good and I should drink it more.

Ok, this tea sounds simply delightful, one. But two, ORANGE MILK? That sounds uh.maze.ing. Where? Where?
Promised Land brand milk – it’s a seasonal flavor that I picked up at Central Market (which, if you aren’t familiar with it, is a gourmet/hippie grocery store). I also got the tea at Central Market. Yay Central Market!
