1083 Tasting Notes
It’s one o’clock in the morning, and I can’t turn my brain off. Instead of tossing and turning and keeping my husband awake I thought I’d make myself a cup of tea and try to unwind some. And by unwind I of course mean reading tea reviews and watching YouTube videos until I can’t keep my eyes open. Yeah.
Anyway, this tea… it’s nice. It’s orange and cinnamon, but neither flavor is mind blowing. Then again, given the late hour I don’t think I need my mind blown just now.
I’m still trying to finish samples I received this time last year (I know, I know). I’m almost caught up, and I’ve had the chance to enjoy little gems like this along the way. The apple flavor is delicious, and I appreciate how the spices (cinnamon, ginger, and clove – I think) are used to enhance rather than overpower the fruit flavor.
This is definitely a good way to beat back the Monday morning blues.
It really does! This year has been crazy for me in the best possible ways, but I still feel like it should be March instead of December. :)
I picked this up at a little tea shop the last time I was in Cape May. I thought it would be nice to have this autumn, and then, of course, I brought it home and forgot about it. Me thinks perhaps I need a better storage/organization system for my teas. But I digress….
This tea is good, but not great. There’s a nice maple flavor, and the base tea has a slight maltiness that’s nice. There was no creamy note as far as I could tell, so I added a touch of milk. The result was a perfectly enjoyable cup, but also an easily forgettable one.
I’m going to try to remember to use up the rest of this tea over the next few months because I think this is a tea that’ll lose its flavor and body if it’s not used in a timely manner. Now if I could just remember to remember!
Preparation
This was a middle of the road tea for me. I enjoyed the orange flavor, but I didn’t find much in the way of spice. The drawing on the paper packaging the tea bag comes in shows cinnamon sticks and cardamon pods, but the tea itself is straight orange. The base tea is clean with a possible hint of lemon. Good but not great.
Bentley’s is OK for a “gift” grade tea; can’t remember specific flavors, but I remember thinking “better than what you’d expect off the rack at Big Lots.”
I have been loving this tea this week. It’s been my go-to afternoon tea. I’ve enjoyed the beautiful leaves and watching them steep. It’s kind of mesmerizing. And the flavor – a nice mix of bean, butter, and new grass. Sounds strange, taste awesome.

I’ve become a little too lackadaisical in my tea preparation lately, so I went back to basics with this one. I carefully measured the amount of tea leaves, double checked that the water temperature was correct, and set a timer. Most importantly I watched the timer rather than waking away and forgetting it for 10 minutes.
Lo and behold, I was gifted an ever so lovely cup of tea for my efforts. Really, this tea is dang tasty. Lots of fruit, honey, and chocolate flavors that blend nicely into each other.
So, it turns out that following the directions can be a good thing. Go figure. But the resteep.. all bets are off there, and I can play forgetful mad scientist again. :)
Tea of the morning. I haven’t had this tea in quite awhile, but it’s just as wonderful as I remember. It’s malty, spicy, and smokey. There’s also a sweetness that helps give balance to the stronger, more earthy notes. Plus, this tea is potent enough to kick my rear into gear on a Monday morning.
