I’ve given this one three tries to see if I could make it taste delicious. I’m afraid I’ve failed. It just tastes and smells so chemically. It’s like floor cleaner. I don’t usually go for tropical flavors with red rooibos, but I figured if anyone could do it, it’s S&V. Unfortunately not. Perhaps I just received an off batch since other reviewers had a different experience. The only way to make this tea tolerable is to drink it cold. Then the negative flavors fade to the background, but they’re still there.

Have you tried cold brewing?

I often cold brew second steeps of fruity teas or green teas, but I guess I always thought red rooibos would turn out strangely cold brewed. Not sure why. I should try!

I’ve cold brewed red rooibos a few times and I think it tones down the woodsiness while the other flavours are brought out more. Good luck if you try it!

Another tea box tea! It’s so fun to watch the pearls unfurl, so I used my one clear mug for this. The flavor was pretty strong and classic. It was a little bitter at first, but that mellowed overnight. If you want a tea that’s strongly flowery, this might be the one. It’s one of the better flowery teas I’ve had.

Got a box of this for super cheap at TJ Maxx this fall, and it’s much better than I thought it would be! The berry flavor is tart and pleasant. It’s not the same as all the typical bagged berry tea flavors. I really enjoy having a cold mug of this one in the morning. I only have a few bags left, and this is one I’ll miss when it’s gone.

This one smells a lot like alpine punch. It tastes mostly like somewhat spicy ginger. The flavor isn’t too deep, and it’s not super special, but it’s decent. There’s nothing that contributes to the blondie flavor, so I consider this tea to be poorly named. There’s a little bit of a pineapple flavor in some sips and also some strangeness. It takes milk pretty well. As usual, I’d rather have straight ginger tea. The resteep was good. I wouldn’t say it’s special enough to buy, but it’s not one I’d mind drinking.

I’ve only ever tried flavored puerh before, so I figured I’d try this pure one that was in the tea box. The smell was just so muddy that I had to see what it tasted like. Surprisingly I did kind of like it at first. It matched its scent and was sort of muddy in a pleasing way. I only had two sips the first day, and the second day it tasted more murky and weird. I wish I’d had more the first day since it evolved into something not so pleasant. Anyway, still not for me, but it was interesting, and much better than I had anticipated.

The flavor here is so fun. The chestnut tastes so authentic, even a bit salty. It’s really strong and nutty. I added just a little milk, and it’s really delightful. The rooibos is the perfect supporting player for the flavoring. The second steep tasted almost as strong as the first. I love a strong, nutty tea, and this has to be one of the best ones yet.

I had a two oz bag of this a few years ago, and I remember not being too impressed, but I don’t recall specifics, so I figured I’d try it again since it popped up in the tea box. The flavor is sort of weak and boring. The spices are quite mild, not spicy at all. The black tea isn’t very bold either. It probably tastes better hot. It gained some bitterness after being left in the fridge overnight.

This sounded like a strange one from the tea box, so I brewed some up! I’m drinking it cold, and the flavor is mostly hibiscus. It’s a pleasant hibiscus – not too tart at all. It tastes all right, but I’d rather have an herbal version since I don’t love the way the black tea combines with the hibiscus. It was rather a long steep, but that didn’t seem to bother the tea, which was a relief.

Another chai from the tea box! This blend comes off as strangely a little smoky? I found it tastiest when it was freshly brewed, as opposed to the slight bitterness it’s acquired as it’s been sitting. I’m not sure what spices are in this blend. I can definitely see, but not taste, lemongrass. The flavor is strong, but not spicy. I haven’t liked it as much as some others in the box, but that may just be preference.

Oolong is just the cutest tea, but I never buy it for myself, so I decided to make myself a small mug of this one from the tea box. It tastes rather grassy and green. I tend to prefer buttery oolongs myself, but it was refreshing to have this along with the two heavier chais I was drinking at the same time!

Steepster is glitching for me, so I can only access it using my laptop, which I don’t use very often, so I unfortunately will not be as active on here as I prefer to be.

I’m an event planner who always has two mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, and listening to podcasts.

Favorite flavors: Almond, strawberry, nutty, dessert flavors, melon, mint, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
