drank Rooibos Pear by Simpson & Vail

The scent here is definitely that of pear flavoring rather than authentic pear. The flavor is also rather fake and a bit chemically. The pear rooibos from Tebella was so well done, and I’m out, so I hoped this would be an adequate replacement. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. I don’t mind the fake pear flavor, but the chemical flavor that underlies it is a bit off-putting. I like it well enough to drink it, but I would not purchase this again.

drank Terrific Toffee by T2

This tea is definitely milder than I would guess based on the amount of nougat bits in the leaf. I wouldn’t really know what flavor it’s going for, but it’s decently tasty with milk and sugar. I probably wouldn’t want it often since it’s not very special or distinct. I would love a tea that tastes clearly of delicious toffee! This one is rather weak.

Thanks SO much to amandastory516 for sharing this tea! It’s one I’ve really wanted to try. So the main flavor is rooibos, and I love the rooibos that B&B uses. The next flavor is a bit of coconut. It tastes better when it’s a little warm, as the flavors become a bit muted with cooling. I think I prefer B&B’s birthday cake flavor since that one has more depth and cakiness. This one is certainly a good rooibos, but not absolutely amazing like that other one. The second steep was almost as flavorful as the first.

drank Zen Mint by teakruthi

Finally trying the last of my Teakruthi samples. I would have expected a stronger mint smell. I can only taste the tiniest hint of mint. The black tea is high quality and tasty, though. So it’s a fine tea, but not at all what you would think.

drank Burgundy Blast by Simpson & Vail

If you oversteep this, it leads to quite the sour brew…I know this because I’ve done it several times, whoops. But a pleasantly tart brew can be pretty refreshing. I’d say hibiscus is the main flavor here. It’s best cold. I wouldn’t repurchase this one because it’s not special enough, but it’s a fine example of a tart tea that can be pleasant when brewed properly.

drank Chamomile Flowers by Teapigs

This tastes like a normal chamomile. Perfectly nice, nothing special, just what you’d expect.

Now that I’ve (finally) tried most of the teas from the advent calendar, I feel ready to offer my verdict for this company, which I’ve tried at last after years of wanting to. I enjoy their branding. It’s cute and inviting. Their flavors are pretty basic, but they do a solid job. They’re much too pricey, so I probably wouldn’t make another order unless I got a super deal (I did have somewhat of a discount on this order). Additionally, I was surprised to find that the seasonal flavors were not included in the advent calendar. Luckily I bought small boxes of two of those flavors separately, but I would have really enjoyed more seasonal flavors rather than a bunch of basic flavors that you can get anywhere.

drank Tali's Masala Chai by Art of Tea

Saved a single tea bag of this from a previous tea box. It’s a light tea, but the flavor is pretty good. The spices are mild enough that I’ve decided to not add milk since I don’t want to overpower them. Though mild, they’re pretty balanced, and I enjoyed my cup!

drank Kumquat Cheesecake by 52teas

I was happy to see this blend in the recent mystery bag I ordered. The flavor here is definitely fruity, though I wouldn’t say it tastes like kumquats. The fruitiness goes very well with the rooibos. I don’t think I taste any hints of cheesecake. I’m definitely enjoying this one and would like to award it points for having a flavor I haven’t tasted in a tea before. Whatever fruit flavoring is used is new to me (I think!) and it’s very refreshing. The flavor lingers in my mouth for a long time. The resteep was quite strong as well.

I have a kumquat tea I think from Lupicia maybe? Anyway I have no idea what a kumquat is or if the tea tastes like them, haha.

AJRimmer

They’re these tiny oranges that you eat with the skin on! They’re pretty tart, but I’m definitely in favor of tea flavored with kumquat!

Oh, good to know, thanks!

drank Two Seasons by teakruthi

Thanks for the samples, Teakruthi! Sorry it took so long to get around to this one! I don’t find the peach here to be as delicious as in some peach black teas. I want more juicy peach, but this one is a little drying. The ginger is also fairly mild, really just a light burn in the back of the mouth. The black tea is light as well, with a tiny bit of maltiness. It definitely wasn’t bad, but I wish it had stronger flavors.

Thanks for the sample, Peach! Finally getting around to trying this one a whole year later. I was cooking and ended up oversteeping this, which made the first brew bitter, but the flavoring is still tasty. I’m enjoying it more when it’s cold and I’ve added almond milk and lots of sugar. I brewed the resteep more carefully and noticed some toastiness. The next time I had this tea, I had it without milk, and that was nice and desserty. I don’t think this tea is special enough to buy, but I’m glad I finally tried it! It’s not really like tiramisu, just a light dessert tea.

Steepster is glitching for me, so I can only access it using my laptop, which I don’t use very often, so I unfortunately will not be as active on here as I prefer to be.

I’m an event planner who always has two mugs of tea beside me. Hobbies other than tea include board games, video games, cooking international dishes, science fiction, hiking, jigsaw puzzles, tap dancing, reading, and listening to podcasts.

Favorite flavors: Almond, strawberry, nutty, dessert flavors, melon, mint, anything rooibos-related.

Don’t prefer: Smoky, rosemary, savory flavors, floral (other than lavender), plain tea.

I always drink flavored tea, and preferably caffeine-free. I’ll try just about anything though! Let me know if you’re interested in a swap!

My ratings are kind of meaningless, but basically
90-100 pretty perfect
80-89 really good
70-79 good, but not the best
60-69 okay, but probably not for me
1-59 varying degrees of dislike
