296 Tasting Notes
I had this hot this morning! I added a pump of coconut syrup to my latte and ohhh yeaaahhhh. that hit the spot. I used some of my homemade almond milk to much success. (on a side note, I have finally splurged on an actual nut milk bag! I have been using and reusing the same sheet of cheesecloth for a month. Making nut milk twice a week with a holey piece of cheesecloth is not ideal. Now that I have this new fangled thingie and I love it!! Instead of a half and hour it take me ten minutes to make almond milk! woohoo! /end rant)
The base match 3 Leaf Tea uses is excellent. I have had my fair share of bad matcha in my day, and I can just tell that by looking at this lush, blue-green powder that this will be a very good experience. The base by itself is very nice, it is vegetal and fresh. It’s really got that umami thing down. If I am not careful, I do get some clumping, but it is an easy fix. The taste is smooth, no graininess, and although the flavor is light, it is a creamy hint at the end of each sip that just feels so right. I really enjoyed the flavor, the texture, and the latte I made was gone before I knew it. Looks like I will have to make some more almond milk soon!

Thank you so much boychick for this sample! I am finally getting to trying and reviewing this tea. The leaves are nice and dark, it come apart easily into my gaiwan.
I rinsed twice, then steeped it for 5sec/5/5/10/10/20/20/20/20/30……
I’m on my second day, and boy, I’m glad I let it rest overnight, it became a much happier shupu after a good night’s rest. I rinsed it twice and did three flash brews, and the color and flavor were quite light. This morning and afternoon, it became a much richer color, texture and flavor. Hot summer rain and wet moss notes combined with some nice cocoa and mushrooms. I had to take a break earlier, I was getting a bit too teadrunk on it!
Sample Teabag time! This was a sachet I got from Phi a little while back. It looked so lonely all by itself, so I thought I would put it out of it’s misery and drink it down.
I should have looked it up before I steeped it, because I had no idea it was a white tea! I assumed it was green by a quick glance. I am so glad I did not pour boiling water over it!
The flavors of this tea were pretty subdued for me. I can’t remember how long I steeped this for, but it must not have been long enough? I swear this bag was in the cup for like, 4 minutes though. Eh. que sera, sera. I got a tiny hint of lemon and crème, as well as something that can only be attributed to yellow cake mix batter. Not much else. Not something I would purchase, but I am so glad I know what it tastes like!
Flavors: Cake, Cream, Lemon
Yeah that one made me sad. I got it on sale and the tin smelled so nice… Like wedding cake. But when I finally got around to trying it the flavors were gone. :( so i just huff the tin lol
I finished off my sample of this tea yesterday afternoon. I love how cooling this tea is when I’ve just finished a long workout. I like to treat myself to one of my ‘reserve teas’ after subjecting myself to rec center. And yes, ma’am, this is a really nice reserve tea. I brewed it gyokuro style, and the sweet kettle corn and light floral taste hit the spot, big time. I wrote about my first experience with this tea on the sororiTea blogosphere, so give it a read:

Thanks so much Ost for the sample! unfortunately I ruined the cup. I put it in my ingentuitea but didn’t realize as I was pouring in the water that one corner of the gravity steeper was resting on the end of a spoon. I was so confused, as I was pouring into the steeper, the water just went right through onto the plate I had it on. I made a mess and got water everywhere. I fixed it and brewed another cup, but the flavor was completely gone. It wash just colored water at that point.
This is a reminder to myself to try again!
I went for an early spring hike today! It felt so good to re-charge and to reconnect with the beauty of nature. I’m sorry (not sorry) to sound cheesy, but I was feeling all crusted and stale from the drain of city life. I need to do some earthing to connect myself to the big blue planet around me. Just hearing the absence of sound for a couple of hours made me feel so much better. Nothing but the wind through the trees. No cars, no airplanes, no people. A rare bird song every now and again, but mostly silence and the sound of my feet. It was still a little snowy here and there, but nothing too bad that the trail became too slushy. I was pretty lucky to make it back to my car before it began snowing. ahh, pure bliss.
So the tea that I brought with me was my homemade version of Celestial Seasoning’s Morning Thunder. I used to love that stuff. It was ideal for my hike today. It was smoky, and robust, and really seriously warming.
I used:
.5g of Tippy’s Lumberjack + 3g Capital Tea LTD’s Meleng Estate Assam + 2g Roasted Yerba Mate. I threw in a couple of cinnamon chips as well. It turned out to be pretty much perfect.
Preparation
Got this bag from a freebie sampler in the mail awhile back, decided to do it up today at work. thank goodness for emergency teas!
I was only able to enjoy the first half of my mug before the boss man dumped it out. He has a habit of tossing any drink left unattended as soon as he comes in. I also have a habit of leaving mugs of tea unattended for enough time for him to dump it out. Luckily, I rarely use our mugs at work so I am usually safe from good tea getting tossed down the drain :P
This tea was very mild in all of it’s aspects. I don’t think it was my method of preparation, I think it was just the bag. I used just boiling water, and steeped for 4-5 minutes. What I got in return was a generic teabag chai. There was a French vanilla coffee mate powder sense to it, and the chai was strong on the cloves and cinnamon. I like to avoid cloves at all costs, so this was a loss for me. The black tea base was there, the same way the water was “just there.”
Ah well, at least I didn’t have to dump it myself?
Flavors: Artificial, Cloves, Vanilla
Tried this one iced today. I didn’t think I would like the smoke aspect cold, but I surprised myself! I enjoyed a cold and smoky rich glass of tea today. It really motivated me to GSD (get shit done!)
Happy to be able to drink my otherwise ‘winter’ type teas into the spring and summer!
Thanks scribbles for the lovely sample!
This is such a pretty tea. And pretty freaking delicious. The happy orange liquor is thick, and looks like clear liquid sweet potatoes. I taste roasted sweet potatoes, a hot slice of fresh baked bread, as well as perhaps a light dusting of cocoa. This tea is some serious NOMS. All the little golden fuzzies pack a punch, and got me bouncing off the walls. This was my breakfast tea today, maybe I should have eaten something with this because I am SO friggin wired. heh.
This holds up to many, many steeping in my lil’ gaiwan, so I will be obnoxiously hyped all day longggg :P
Flavors: Baked Bread, Malt, Roasted Chicken, Sweet Potatoes

I’ve been so curious about their matcha.
The flavors are nicely spot on, but a little on the soft side. I like how you can customize Red Leaf Tea’s flavors, but the quality of this matcha is great!
If you want to set up a swap after your round in the matcha TTB, I can send you some stuff you haven’t tried from them! I have quite a few LOL
That would be awesome! Thank ya kindly!
oooh coconut! Yum!
