This is the other new Halloween tea and another gummy candy feature!

I know some people have found this flavour to be a little weird for Halloween but it just feeds perfectly into this idea of nostalgic childhood Halloween’s for me – I elaborated more in my initial note of Strawbearry Gummy, if anyone reading this in the future is curious what I mean by that.

Of the two new teas this year, I prefer this one over the Strawbearry Gummy. There are a million strawberry teas out there, and I just personally am more intrigued (almost always) by teas that are a little more weird/out there and less commonly found. I mean, this is by far not a unique tea in the sense that it’s the first cola tea I’ve had. I currently own other cola blends from other companies and, heck, DT has even had another cola blend before – Cherry Cola.

This tea is actually also loosely based around a cherry cola flavour, but more emphasis on the cola and less on the cherry. To be honest, the “OG” Cherry Cola may actually be the worst tea I’ve ever tried from DT so for me this blend tastes like sweet, sweet redemption more than anything else. Also a lot like cola though, obviously. When you brew it hot, more acidity comes out of the hibiscus during infusion and they slight cherry cola flavour becomes more evident. Steeped iced, it’s more of a pure cola flavour.

The cola comes from the combination of citrus and spices, something I’ve talked about in other cola tea blends before. You can even recreate a messy/loose cola flavoured tea at home by mixing a more cinnamon heavy Chai blend with a more acidic lime one, if you have both flavour profiles in your stash. It’s obviously supported, though, through the cola flavouring and gummy candies in the blend. Honestly though you can pick out the gummies and it’s still going to taste like coke. I also appreciate the subtle inclusion of vanilla, which is a nice “tethering” flavour!

Compared to the Strawbearry blend, there are a lot less gummies in this blend – maybe two or three for your average 50g pouch? You can pick them out if you want, though they’re pretty tough so eating them might not be the most advisable. I’ve certainly tried – I kind of eat everything in my tea, at least once. Since they’re much larger than the gummy bears, they definitely don’t dissolve as easily so you kind of have to commit to a longer steep time or I would recommend using a fill your own tea bag to prevent steeper clogging or just washing your steeper immediately after brewing before they have a chance to re-solidify.

I know this is definitely going to be a polarizing tea blend but if you like cola flavours at all then I think it’s one worth checking out!

I drank this one as part of #SeptemberSipdown on the dessert tea themed day. Is cola a dessert tea!? I don’t know – but it gave me an excuse to take this pretty picture and highlight one of my all time favourite Halloween mug designs!

EDIT: I forgot to mention, and I really wanted to because I’ve seen a lot of people assume this, the gummy candies in this blend don’t come from Squish! I think it’s completely fair people are assuming so, since the Strawbearry Gummy bears do but this one does not!

Friendly reminder that I do not numerically rate DAVIDsTEA blends as I’m currently employed there and it would be an obvious conflict of interest. Any blends you see with numerical ratings were rated prior to my employment there. These reviews are a reflection of my personal thoughts and feelings regarding the teas, and not the company’s.

Hello! My name is Kelly, though many people in the tea community call me Ros or Roswell.

I am a twenty five year old proudly queer tea addict, blogger, and all around tea geek. I grew up in the Prairies, but a few years ago I relocated to Quebec to pursue a career with DAVIDsTEA in the tea industry! I’m still working on getting my French language skills down…

My first introduction to tea, in any form outside of instant and bottled iced tea, was about seven years ago when I happened to stumble upon DAVIDsTEA while looking for a birthday present for a friend! I tried their Birthday Cake rooibos blend, and I’ve been hooked on tea ever since! In those seven years; I was introduced to the online tea community, expanded my interest in flavoured teas to include a deep love and appreciation for straight teas and traditional brewing methods, got a tea themed tattoo, started reviewing teas, amassed a sizable tea and teaware collection, became a TAC certified Tea Sommelier, & even came full circle by beginning a career in the tea industry with DAVIDsTEA!

I consider myself a Jack of all Teas, and strive to have a knowledge and appreciation of all tea types, formats, and styles of drinking. I don’t like to feel boxed in to just being a “flavoured tea” or “straight tea” drinker – my expectations may vary depending on the type of tea or how it’s been processed/prepared but if it’s good tea, it’s good tea no matter how it’s been made!

You name it, I probably drink it- and I’ll absolutely try anything at least once.

My default method of preperation is hot, Western style, and straight – but I’m not opposed to additions if I’m in the right mood. If I ever add something to a tea or use a different method of preparation I will ALWAYS call it out in the tasting note though.

I like to listen to music when drinking tea, especially when I’m brewing a large pot at a time or steeping Gongfu. Often I curate very intentional tea and music pairings, and sometimes I share them here in my tasting reviews. Music is something that I find can deeply affect the experience of having tea.

Favourite flavour notes/ingredients: Pear, lychee, cranberry, cream, melon, pineapple, malt, roasty, petrichor, sweet potato, heady florals like rose, hazelnut or walnut, sesame, honey (in moderation), and very woody shou.

Least favourite flavour notes/ingredients:
Lemongrass, ginger, strongly spiced profiles (and most Chai in general), mushrooms, seaweed, chamomile, stevia, saltiness or anything that reminds me too much of meat that isn’t supposed to taste like meat…

Currently exploring/obsessed with: Sheng from Yiwu, Yancha (Qilan in particular), anything with a strong sweet potato note. Also, I need to try ALL the root beer teas! Searching for a really good caramel flavoured blend, ideally with a black tea base.

Currently I’m employed in the tea department of the DAVIDsTEA head office. While I’m still sharing my own personal thoughts on new & existing DAVIDsTEA blends, I am no longer numerically rating them due to the obvious conflict of interest.
