Cold Brew!
Had most of this brew last night, and the rest early this morning. It was my sipping companion while watching the first episode of Canada’s Drag Race – which I thought was pretty well done. It seemed a bit forced at times, in terms of the judging panel/format, but the queens were very impressive for a first episode. Since there’s no one from Saskatchewan, I guess I’m rooting for the Quebec queens – Rita Baga in particular was impressive; I love the small touches on her runway like the frost bitten ears! My other favourites, based on snap impression, are BOA and Jimbo – what can I say, I love a weird queen!
This was WAY MORE floral than I remember it being – but I did enjoy it. I think I did ultimately drink it over two days though because that floral oolong character was building so much and lingering in the palate so much that it was verging on perfumey and I didn’t want to cross into that territory. Aside from the floral qualities, the mango is so juicy and spot on – one of the best mango flavours that I’ve seen in a tea for sure.

I saw Scarlett BoBo live. She ended up on my table at a Drag Brunch so it’s fun to see her on the show. My brother-in-law who is not a Drag Race fan by any means was about to leave the room when Jimbo started doing the mini challenge and that won him over. I thought they shoe-horned in the Canada jokes and laughed when they had the guest judge say Ru’s iconic lines instead of Brooke who clearly seems like the unofficial host. Overall though, I think the Queens will be interesting.
I think Scarlett Bobo was in the middle of my ranking based on first impression; that’s cool though!! I know SK queens much better so it was sad not to see one, but I guess the Prairie drag scene in general is just so much smaller – which also creates another disadvantage because it means most queens can’t make a living off their drag alone to really hone their craft…
I sort of didn’t mind the guest judge taking center stage and introducing the judges – I feel like Brooke DOES feel like the unofficial lead judge, but at least this way doesn’t encourage that even more.
I don’t mind the guest judge doing it. Should be interesting when Michelle is a guest judge though and she gets to say Ru’s lines. It’s one thing when it is someone far removed from the show just appearing for an episode vs someone so ingrained in the fabric of Drag Race. Nonetheless, it seems like it’ll be a good first season which is awesome since I am pretty meh over the All Stars cast.
