When I was steeping this, my brother-in-law walked into the kitchen and asked who was making hot chocolate. He then realized it was tea that just smelled like chocolate. Unfortunately, the rooibos comes through and drowns the chocolate slightly. Not completely but a fair bit. Like Roswell Strange said, it’s got a bit of a rum ball vibe to it but I wish it was more chocolate and less rooibos.

I like this one. It’s light, sweet, and minty. It will be missed.

I cold brewed this in milk and the first sip was sooo familiar. The chai latte from Starbucks is what comes to mind, though with less sugar, which is preferred. However, that’s not quite accurate because it has the pumpkin vibe too. I like it and will be writing a more through review sometime in the future. Until then, thank you for sharing, CuppaGeek!

I’ve been waiting for a quite moment to make an earl grey and watch the latest geek steep about Star Trek. I thought that was going to be tonight – hence the tea choice – but as soon as I finished brewing, my sister came downstairs and wanted to play the new Crash Bandicoot game. So we did that and I drank this while playing.

It was so good. Great vanilla and coconut flavor. It’s so good that the bergamot doesn’t bother me one bit. It works perfectly here because this is delicious! Hoping to get more of this one in the future…

Today’s #31daysofhallotean prompt is to combine two unlikely teas. Personally I don’t know if this combination is unlikely but I thought of it due to the latte I had the other day. I wanted a salted caramel latte but instead went with a banana pancakes latte when I realized I didn’t have enough of the former. Today I thought those two flavors could be good together so I gave them a mix.

They go fine together. Sort of a weird smokey caramel banana flavor. That sounds nice but it is topped by a metallic quality and the floral oolong. Underneath is a dense black tea, which I think is the “pancakes” coming through. It’s all a bit flat.

Like my last combination of cotton candy and lapsang souchong, I just can’t seem to get flavors to pop.

DT went through a short but interesting phase of suggesting mashups of pairs of their teas. My favorite was Tiramisu made of Birthday Cake and Coffee Puer.

My cupboard has grown exponentially since joining this site and I have a lot to share. Feel free to snoop through my cupboard and message me if anything interests you – I am always happy to swap!

For me, flavored teas are definitely my sweet spot. I will most often reach for black teas and rooibos or honeybush blends but I do keep some flavored whites and greens around for when the mood strikes. I have a few herbals/tisanes but most of the time I find myself disappointed by them as they often smell deliciously sweet and then end up tasting tart/sour. I have a little bit of an aversion to pu’erh and oolong teas. I am also wary of florals, earl greys, and chai teas. I do not like overpowering citrus flavors nor do I usually like hibiscus, licorice or chamomile. I love dessert teas – caramel, vanilla, toffee, cookie, cream, and other sweet flavors make me smile. Fruits like strawberry, peach, mango, and pineapples will often catch my attention as well.

I have also realized that although I really enjoy adding frothed milk to some of my teas, if I do not like the tea with zero additives (just in plain water without milk or sugar), I probably won’t drink it. The one exception is flavored matchas which I will happily drink in cold milk if I do not like it mixed with hot water. My theory is if the tea can’t stand on its own then it is not for me and I will more than likely try to swap it out for something else.

Tea Ratings Guide (as of December 10, 2017)
90-100 Teas I NEED on hand at all times
80-89 Teas I want to keep around for a cup every now and then
70-79 Teas I am glad I have around and can experiment with but probably don’t need more than what’s in my cupboard
60-69 Teas I would not turn down a cup of from a friend but that would probably be enough
50-59 Teas I can see why someone would enjoy but are not for me
Under 50 Teas I really did not like and most likely got dumped
