1138 Tasting Notes
I’m back reunited with ALL my teas! I only took a select few out to my parents for a few weeks, and now I am back with them all, including this gem. Beautifully delicious as always, I made a cup for my friend and she likes it too. I will have to order more ASAP, I’m almost out :( this is a staple for me and it’s also the boyfriend’s favorite. I hope I NEVER run out of this!
Preparation
I have been having a tea day/evening with my good friend charchar and this was one she brought over that I’ve been meaning to try. It was yummy, reminded me very much of a ginger snap cookie! I definitely will have to pick up some of this for a caffeine free spice chai taste :) I will write a more detailed review once I acquire some of this for myself hehe.
Preparation
Backlog – This was my first tea of the new year! I had it at about 1:30 am last night haha, helped settle my poor, over-saturated stomach that was entirely too well-fed with rich hors d’oeuvres :P gotta love new years! Good start to 2013! Hope everyone had a good time last night!
Take that flu, or whatever was making my stomach quesy. It seems to have gone away a fair amount, i’ll watch what I eat still to not aggravate it. We are up at our cabin for new years, and i brought my box of teas of course. This is my second cup of this today, made mom a cup tonight too. Mmm i just love this rooibos, definitely my favorite. See previous notes on this lemony goodness!
Preparation
No no no! I don’t want to get sick! Ugh, stomach was acting up…so I made a first cup of this with some fresh ginger, steeped 5 mins, then left another cup’s worth to steep for a longggg time, prob 20-30 mins. Added honey to both because they were a bit umm, gingery? Lol, pretty strong. Had almost both cups and stomach is a bit better, but blah, I think it might be my turn for the flu. Fingers crossed!!!
Preparation
So everyone in the house is getting the stomach flu… So this tea was required today. Hoping I don’t get it, it’s a darn nasty one. I steeped it for me and mom to try to protect us both, steeped for quite a while probably 8 or 9 mins. Max mint! See previous notes on this tea.
Preparation
swallow a couple of small cloves of garlic, that’ll help to kill it. Also, eating apples helps with a stomach bug. The pectin seems to help sooth the gut, and if you can’t keep them down, at least it won’t taste bad. Slippery elm bark tea is also helpful.
I had to have a cup of this tonight. It warmed up from -27 (celsius) to about -3 within 24 hours. It is the equivalent of summer outside right now! The moon is shining, stars are out, and I was feeling summery and a bit romantic tonight. This was the tea that called to me, with its rose petals and lavender and floral/berry goodness. I steeped a bit shorter this time, so the rooibos isn’t quite so present in the smell. J’adore ce soir thé. I want to watch Shakespeare or something. Haha, I love how a change in weather can brighten my mood so much :)
Preparation
This is another tea I got my mom for Christmas, as she’s a licorice fiend, myself..not so much. So it was with a bit of apprehension that I tried this tea. She actually snuck a cup before I had a chance to try it with her, and she said it was good. So I brewed us both a cup tonight.
The dry smell is predominantly minty, with a twinge of licorice. Steeped, hmm, it’s a lighter mint smell with some sweetness, to be honest, I didn’t smell it too much as it was brewing! I steeped for 5 minutes, about 2.5 tsps for 2 cups of tea. Also, the liquor was a rich sunny yellow, must be from the safflower and marigold. It was very pretty while infusing, the little flowers were floating all over the place :)
The taste is actually not what I was expecting! First you get a hit of the mint, then I get some of the nettle (I only know it’s nettle because of my other nettle tea I have), some ginger, a hint of heat from the chillies, and then…the licorice! It hits..it’s a cloying sweet aftertaste most definitely like licorice candies. This is my least favorite part of the cup, but that was to be expected as I’m not a huge fan of licorice. I imagine that some of the sweetness also comes from the pineapple. There’s also a nice swirling of spices throughout this, and yes, the warmth of the chili is still present a bit after the sip.
Overall, this tea surprised me (yay!). It wasn’t as licorice-y as I thought it would be, and I’m very happy the mint is at the start of the sip as I love mint! This tea is actually quite complex to me, but the flavors mesh pretty well together. I don’t think this would be a repurchase for me, just due to personal taste. But I must admit, this would be darn soothing if I get a cold, so I might get a little bit to have on hand, and it might be nice to have something different. Oh, and mom likes it, and that was the main goal, so hurray!! 3 for 3 for the teas, although she hasn’t cracked into her new tin of Pumpkin Chai yet :P

Best tea.
I agree! Love this tea soooo much.
