78 Tasting Notes
Surprisingly light for a black tea. It almost tastes floral? I’m used to black teas punching me in the face, but I don’t really mind this. It wasn’t really the breakfast tea I was looking for and it isn’t something I think I’d seek out, but I think it’s kind of cute and I’m glad I tried it.

Bedtime for me, and so: decaf Momo. This smells really great. It tastes fine, too—it’s kind of a lighter, almost thin taste for a black tea, which surprised me, but I’ve never had decaf tea before, so maybe that’s a feature and not a bug. I don’t think I’m going to get this again, since low-caffeine tea is a before-bed thing for me and I like my bedtime teas sweeter and creamier, but it’s a pretty great fruity decaf tea, as they go.

This shares the baked goods note from White Christmas! Oh, White Christmas. Why can’t I drink you all the time.
Buttery, a little coffee-like, nutty, sweet, and full-bodied. I’m not really getting the almond, but I can see where it comes from. This is great. If I get a hankering for White Christmas out of season, I know what I’m ordering.

Another objectively good tea that’s ruined by scent association for me. It’s okay, and it has a semi-sweet round taste, but it smells like suntan lotion, and the full taste—it’s not creamy, exactly; more like kind of lingering—doesn’t really help. I think it’s probably fine, it’s just that it smells like lotion to me and I’d just rather not.

I’ve just come to the conclusion that you have to get houjicha just right or else it tastes like trees. Or, apparently, unless you flavor it, as is the case here! I like this! It does taste a little bit like wood, and I’m not really tasting the milk, but I really like the smokey-caramel taste and I’m definitely going to try out more flavored houjichas in the future.

Figured I’d give a tea called “demon’s roast” a whirl on Friday the 13th! c:
The tasting notes are telling me about the “deep sweetness” that’s in here somewhere, but I’m not getting it. It’s full-bodied for a houjicha, and it’s got a really great roasted taste, but I don’t think it’s particularly exciting and I don’t smell anything particularly exciting about it, either. There’s a grassy aftertaste I don’t think I’ve ever gotten from a houjicha before, which is interesting, but other than that, it doesn’t really grab me.

I like this a lot more than I thought I was going to! It’s just a straight up black tea, and I don’t normally care for those very much, but this is pretty tasty! It’s astringent and fairly strong, and it’s…earthy? I think? i don’t know how to describe this. I’m seeing people say it’s “malty”—is this what that is? It’s pretty nice.
I didn’t have it with milk because I don’t really like stuff in my tea, so I might be missing out on something by doing it the wrong way, but it’s a pretty good breakfast tea and it is going on the list!
Flavors: Astringent

It’s not very exciting, but it’s tasty! Full-bodied and lightly astringent. It smells like the most amazing raspberries ever, but the tea itself only has so much raspberry to it. Not my favorite, but not bad.

You know, it’s not that Daruma is a bad tea, because it’s not—it has a great fruity, peppery scent and an interesting earthy aftertaste that balances out the sweetness of its fruit notes. I just think the problem is that at some point in my life, I must have had a medicine that tastes just slightly like it. It’s good! It’s strong and sweet and a little spicy; it’s fine, as teas go! But something about it says “medicine” because my scent memory doesn’t want me to have nice things. Oh well.
