183 Tasting Notes
I found this tea in my cupboard, and I don’t think I’ve had it before, which is strange, because the other Lapacho tea I have from Steeped and Infused (Lapacho Pear Cream) is tied for my favourite tea at the moment (the other is Butiki’s Maple Pecan Oolong). Anyway, I decided to fix that and made a cup.
I don’t know if I gave it a fair shot, as I prepared it in water instead of as a true chai tea. I can taste a lot of the individual spices in it, but there’s another taste that must be the lapacho. I think that it would taste much better prepared as a traditional chai. Next time.
My rating of this is my official “water” rating.
Preparation
When I smell the dry tea, there’s an almost flowery smell to it, which is weird, as there are no flowers in the mix. I guess it’s the mango flavouring added.
Brewed, the spices blend well with the rooibos base. It doesn’t taste as flowery as it smelled, thank goodness (I’m not a fan of floral teas). I don’t taste mango as a distinct flavour of its own, but I do think there is a sweetness to this that can’t be attributed to the cinnamon that helps to balance out the usual woody flavour of the rooibos.
I like it, but I think it will fall into obscurity in my tea cupboard, as there’s nothing earth-shatteringly different about it.
Preparation
I think my taste buds are plebeian when it comes to straight teas. I read Indigbloom’s review of this one and thought, wow. She tasted all of that in THIS? My taste buds need work.
It’s drinkable. I like the fact that no sugar is needed, as it does have a bit of sweetness to it already. There is no astringency, which is great. I don’t think I’m ready to give up my flavoured teas any time soon, though.
I’m rating this a bit higher than I otherwise would, because I think true straight tea drinkers would really enjoy this.
Preparation
There are a LOT of ingredients in this tea, most of which I really like. Steeped, all I really taste is licorice with a kick of ginger at the end of the sip. The licorice, fennel, and cinnamon give it a nice sweetness.
I love licorice and ginger, so that’s good. I have a lot of similar teas already, though, so I’m afraid that ultimately this one will get lost in the shuffle, as there’s nothing that really makes it stand out from the crowd.

I’m not sure if I’ve had a tea with a green rooibos base before. Dry, the tea smells strongly of lime, so I expected a fairly strong, maybe tart taste when I drank it. Not at all. In fact, I don’t get much taste at all, and I way oversteeped this one (forgot about it for at least 15-20 min). It’s essentially water that tastes like it should taste like something, but it doesn’t. Hopefully that makes sense.
Not repulsive, but definitely not on my list to re-buy.

This has been my Tealux tasting day. I feel like I’m swimming in tea (or it’s swimming in me). This is my last tea with caffeine for the day, and it was a good one to end with.
I like this one. The chai spices are subtle enough that they blend with the white tea base instead of overwhelming it. It has a sweet taste, likely due to the cinnamon or honeybush in it. No astringency (or the spices are masking it).
I love chai teas that I don’t need to sweeten. I wouldn’t mind getting more of this at some point.
Preparation
I’ve tried a lot of Red Leaf flavoured matchas recently, so I was curious to see how another company’s matcha would compare.
I’m a lazy matcha drinker. I like to throw it in the blender with some almond milk and blend until it’s light and frothy. Red Leaf matchas blend really well, with no clumps at all. My Ginger matcha from Tealux didn’t blend nearly as well, unfortunately. The first few sips were really nice, and the ginger taste was definitely present. The bottom of the cup was all clumps, though, and I ended up dumping some of it down the drain.
I’m giving this a slightly higher rating than I typically would, as this would be a good matcha if you want something at a good price and you’re in the habit of sifting your matcha really well before using it. I’m just not in that habit yet.
Oh, and I just drank it about 10 min ago and I feel a bit wired already. Wow. I probably should have tried this earlier in the day.
I brewed this one at the suggested 90C first, and it was too astringent for me, so I tried again at about 75C, and it’s a bit better. I honestly don’t taste much beyond tea and a floral taste. The description says it tastes like baked pear. I don’t get that at all.
It’s not a terrible tea, but it’s not great, either. There are better white tea blends out there.
Preparation
I’ll freely admit that I bought this one because of the name. Butterscotch Potion. It just sounds so rich and decadent. I really like the smell of it, both dry and steeped. It does smell of butterscotch.
Taste-wise, it’s not as rich tasting as I expected it to be, but that could be operator error. I steeped it at 80C instead of the 90C that was recommended, mainly because I’d rather have a weak tea than an astringent one. I’ll try re-steeping at 90C later and see if that makes a difference.
It does remind me of some coconut white teas I’ve had, but there is that definite butterscotch taste that makes it unique. I was worried that the peppercorns would give it too much of a bite, but all of the flavours blend smoothly. I’ll buy this one again if/when I make another Tealux order (I have a LOT of tea to go through first. I wish some of my friends were tea obsessed so I could swap or split orders with them).
