183 Tasting Notes
I honestly didn’t like this one after my first few sips, but it’s growing on me as it cools down a bit. It’s funny, I was trying to think how to describe the taste when I read the 2 previous reviews. I had an ahah moment when I read Tea Sipper’s comment about it tasting like Butiki’s cantaloupe tea. It does, which is really weird, as this is a rooibos and that one’s a white. There is a bit of spiciness at the end of the sip that’s not in the cantaloupe tea, though.
I can’t say that I’m really disappointed this tea doesn’t have a strong pumpkin flavour. I don’t actually like pumpkin that much, so spicy cantaloupe works for me.
Preparation
I ordered a sample of this because the last Lychee green tea I tried was by Tetley, and it was horrible. I was curious if Tealux could do better.
It has a very floral smell in the bag. I’m assuming that’s the jasmine. I served this to a friend tonight, and she said that she could really taste the lychee in it. I could taste it a bit, but it also tasted a bit bitter to me, even though I was really careful to only steep it for 2 min, and did so at a lower temp than suggested.
It’s better than the Tetley version, I’ll give them that, but it’s just kind of blah overall. I’m glad I got the sample size.
Preparation
The name on my package is White Coconut Creme, but on Tealux’s website it’s listed as White Coco Dream. This is one of the few teas I bought in a larger size from Tealux, and I’m glad I did.
The dry tea is quite pretty, with blue and red flowers in with the white tea base. It has an almost sweet smell.
Once brewed, it smelled a bit of coconut. It was a pleasure to drink, as it had a light, creamy, coconut taste and was sweet enough that it didn’t need sweetener.
I brewed it at a lower temp than they recommended, as I was afraid of astringency. IT seemed to work fine, and there was no bitterness.
I’m going to have to do a side-by-side taste comparison soon to find my favourite coconut tea. This one will be in the running.
Preparation
I really wasn’t sure if I would like this one. It has a rooibos base, but the other components seem to mellow the rooibos. It has such a blend of flavours I’m having a hard time describing it even to myself. It almost has a juicy taste to it, but not in a sickeningly sweet way. I do get a hint of a banana flavour.
Quite an interesting tea. I’ll probably only drink it at night when I want something with a chamomile base.
Preparation
My huge (for me) Tealux order arrived today. I now have 36 new teas, mostly sample sizes, to try. I haven’t even finished trying the teas from my TeaFrog order yet. I think I’m becoming an addict.
It was pretty late when I got home, so I pulled out an herbal blend to try. I’m a fan of anise and fennel, so I thought Rest and Digest would be pretty good. I don’t think I’ve ever had lemon balm in a tea before, though.
I get definite tastes of fennel and chamomile when drinking it, which I liked. There’s a bit of a floral note at the end that I’m not a huge fan of, though. I’m not sure if that’s the lemon balm or the safflower. It’s not bad, it’s just not great.
Overall, a very drinkable tea, that likely would help with digestion if that was an issue.
Preparation
I’ve had Blueberry flavoured teas which did not taste of blueberry at all. This is not one of them. I don’t know how it tastes hot, as unfortunately I steeped it and then forgot about it for 3 hrs, but it’s great cold. There is a definite blueberry taste that reminds me of blueberry pie filling (it’s been a looong time since I had that). Very sweet and tasty. No sweetener required here.
Preparation
I’ve been looking at these guys as a potential order sooner rather than later. Good to know the blueberry is a decent one to start with
I’ve never tried a fruity rooibos before, but the description of this one made me give it a chance. I wasn’t sure what to think when I smelled it in the bag. I didn’t smell the woodiness of rooibos at all, but I did smell a strong scent that I couldn’t place at first. It finally came to me. It smells like lemon flavoured Halls (the cough drops). I hoped the taste would be mellower than the smell.
When really hot, it did have a strong medicinal taste to it, that thankfully mellowed out a bit when it cooled. Not horrible, but not one I’ll be reaching for anytime soon. I think the added flavouring is just too strong in this, as lemongrass and cornflowers wouldn’t overpower the rooibos the way this is. I’ll put it on the list of teas to try drinking when I have a sore throat.
Preparation
I picked up my TeaFrog package at the post office today, and couldn’t wait to start trying the samples I bought.
Coconut Vanilla White was my first choice, as I had high hopes for this one. I like white tea, coconut, and vanilla. It should be a winner.
The smell of the dry tea is beautiful. Coconut and vanilla. Yum. I was careful to only steep it for 2 min, and there was no astringency when I drank it. With every sip, I taste the coconut, and then the vanilla. I’m not sure what the rosebuds are adding, but the flavours blend well.
I tried a second infusion at 75C for 4 min. The taste of the tea was more apparent, and it was also a touch astringent. I’ll stick to 2 min in the future.
This is a nice, light, sweet tea. I love teas that I don’t have to sweeten, as I never remember to add sugar, anyway. It’s not my favourite tea ever, but pretty darn good. I hope the rest of TeaFrog’s teas are this good.
Preparation
I really enjoyed a cup of this yesterday, and attempted to do a second infusion of it, which I them put in my thermos and took to work. A few hours later I went to drink it, and a thick, syrupy liquid poured out instead of a nice, light tea. I guess the mulberries were breaking down a bit too much during the 2nd steep.
The first cup tastes great, but additional steeps not so good.
The smell of the dry leaf is divine. Unfortunately the brewed tea doesn’t quite live up to its smell.
The first steep I had was a bit disappointing. Very bland. I didn’t give up, though, as I know some oolongs are better with the second or third infusion. I could detect more of a creamy vanilla taste in the second cup, which made it much more enjoyable.
Not my favourite, but definitely drinkable. I think I may try it again with a lower water temp and see how that goes.

Spicy cantaloupe?! Hmm. A friend picked this one up; I may have to snag a sample just for curiosity.
