Today I broke out the 2012 Yunnan Sourcing Zhu Peng Zhai Wild Arbor Raw Puerh Tea. This was just slightly bitter. It was smooth overall. There was a note of tobacco in the first steep but it was gone by the second. It had lost that flavor of apricots I think but there was still some sweetness present. Overall this was pretty good. This one never made it in the pumidor as there was no room.

First tea of the day, a very young 2015 Yunnan Sourcing Wa Long village Yi Wu old arbor spring tea. I test this tea cake every six months and it is developing very well in the pumidor at 72% relative humidity.

Throughout the day yesterday, I enjoyed the 2009 Menghai Dayi “Clouds” High Mountain Ripe. This tea has all that I have come to expect from a quality warming Dayi shu with six or more years of age – appealing aroma, free of most fermentation taste, no real bitterness or astringency, rich flavor profile, and decent longevity. The leaf brews just the way I like my shu puer – smooth and dark. The tea liquor yields an earthy aroma that is warm and rich. Mellow and pleasant taste; smooth and rich in flavor with a mix of light oak, caramel and creamy flavors with traces of dark cocoa. The sip delights the mouth with a smoothness on the tongue and then leaves a sweet aftertaste.

White2tea’s 1990’s blue mark. A very clean, smooth tea that is cooling in the mouth with medicinal hints of camphor, wood and mushrooms. Stays on the tongue forever, tingling, sweetening and cooling. Worth the money if you just want a sample, and I would definitely get a cake if I had money to burn!

Few minutes ago I broke off a bit from the 2014 Bindao which I bought from Terre de Ciel. So far the dry leaves smell very good…

Today I drank another sample I had from Yangqinghao Tea, the 2007 Yangqinghao “Qizhong Gushu” Raw. Thank you Boychik for this sample. This was excellent tea. It started with some notes of tobacco like all the Yangqinghao teas do in my experience. This did not last too long. It evolved into something smooth with a sort of muted sweetness that was quite good. This is definitely one I would consider buying at some point although I’m not participating in this next group order.

I also had a quick session with a loose ripe from Yunnan Sourcing, the Wild Arbor Loose Leaf Ripe of Yong De Spring 2013. This tea had quite a bit of fermentation flavor to it. I noticed it into the sixth steep. It was bittersweet at the start too. This slowly changed to a more sweet note. I was at my caffeine limit so I stopped at eight steeps. I think this was a high quality loose leaf puerh as are all of Yunnan Sourcing’s Loose Leaf ripe puerhs.
