This is a nice stand-alone black tea. Medium Strength, Medium flavors of aromatic floral and bergamot – maybe a bit on the lighter side of medium, actually. But regardless this is a really gratifying cup!

While this isn’t my favorite Darjeeling I am going to rate it higher than most on this specific tea. I don’t think it’s that bad. It’s not overly memorable but it’s tasty. It’s a nice standard Darjeeling to have in your stash to share with anyone anytime of day! It’s slightly crusty and slightly misty with a bit of satisfying astringency. A fair Darjeeling!

Light refreshing white tea with a subtle cherry flavour. The scent of cherry is quite strong before brewing. Afterwards the scent and flavour is more subtle but I think it works well.

I have found it’s best to steep for around 2-3 minutes, any longer and the taste can become slightly bitter.

One of mine and my fiances personal favourites!

Great tasting rooibos with a stronger than expected strawberry flavour. The strawberry is pleasant tasting – great in an afternoon with a biscuit or two. Naturally sweet.

My co-workers commented on the nice strawberry scent in our office after I’d brewed this. If you like fruity teas then I would definitely recommend!

Although I do not particularly like this tea, is still a nice tea for a late afternoon sip. The flavor is not as strong as other Earl Greys, but the bergamot is noticeable.

Full review tomorrow April 5th on http://sororiteasisters.com/ but here are my snippets:

Oh yes, this is an oolong after my heart! Organic China Oolong from Whittard of Chelsea has every bit of that smokiness I adore in a dark oolong and a berry sweet note that drives me wild! The aroma alone is intoxicating, I would wear this as perfume, not that it tastes like perfume at all but it smells so dreamy!

The cup steeps into an amber vision of beauty with a clear view to the bottom of the cup. The first note I pick up is a light honey note, with a backdrop of maple, and wood. This is a very sweet cup considering its dark smoked nature.

I also get a brandied candied flavor in the tea, a brothy sensation in the mouthfeel that is welcoming and warming.

This tea does not really conjure up feelings of sitting by a campfire as much as it does feelings of walking in the deep woods sipping a hardy grog from a chalice or a canteen perhaps. It makes me feel more like Robin Hood than Roy Rodgers!

This is on my must-try list :-D Sounds delicious!

Lately I just haven’t felt up to evaluating tea, so I’ve been sticking mainly to my old reliable strong bagged black + soymilk + sugar. But now we’re in the throes of a cold snap and I’m drinking cup after cup to keep warm, so I figured it was about time I tried a loose tea from my stash that I haven’t reviewed.

I still don’t have the vocabulary to describe this one, but I really like it! “Earthy” is probably a good word for it. It’s smooth and kind of sweet and savory at the same time, and it went nicely with the sourdough rye toast I had with it. I happily drank the whole cup without even considering adding milk or sweetener. I think I would prefer it a bit stronger, so I’ll just have to watch how much water I put in my cup next time.

Finishing up this sample :D with a toasted tomato sandwich and leftover bunnyday chocolates. I love a good earl grey first thing.

This is a great EG! I had all sorts of tea plans for this morning and threw them all out the window because this one said “breakfast” – it’s breakfast OBVS. ;)

Not rating this yet, since I probably screwed up the steeping. I’m still a novice when it comes to white tea, but I don’t think it’s supposed to be quite like this (deep honey color, somewhat bitter/astringent but not enough to make it unpleasant). Note to self: 2 tbsp leaf for your 2-cup pot is probably too much. Maybe try a shorter steep or hotter water.

On second thought, maybe I’m not too far off… I drank the liquor that spent a little longer in the pot first, and now that I’ve gotten to the first-poured cup it’s a lot more enjoyable. It does have some astringency, but the sweeter flavors are much more present. One irritating thing about Whittard is that they don’t always give brewing instructions on the packaging or website, and the search results for brewing white peony varied quite a bit, so trial and error it is. Oh well, that’s why we have Steepster!

Based on the second cup I drank, I’d probably rate it somewhere around 78.

The bagged version of this is what I’ve taken to drinking at my in-laws’ house. It’s rather old (best before date was 18 months ago), but it’s still better than Twinings Everyday!

Another pot for breakfast! I can see why people like this (it was voted one of Whittard’s top 3 teas by customers) because it’s not bad with milk & sugar. Only 79 more grams to go…

Definitely better with soymilk & half a teaspoon of sugar per cup. Better, but still not that great. And I have more than half of the 125g bag to get through – anyone want to help out?

Had another pot today prepared similarly to last time, except I decanted all the liquor into cups rather than leaving the remainder stewing with the leaves. Got some harshness again (though not as bad as yesterday) which was ameliorated by adding sweetener. Drank both steepings black – will try the first with soymilk next time.

Made a pot of this for breakfast with my porridge (oatmeal with raisins, chopped apple, and walnuts, if you wanted to know). I’m still a bit awkward getting my tea ready at the same time as my food even when using my usual bagged tea, but today I guess I felt up to the task of trying loose.

I’m probably not following protocol for tasting, so I won’t get too into specifics, but for all brews I found it a bit harsh yet low on flavor, if that makes any sense. Brewed more lightly it was bland, but drinkable after it cooled a bit. The stronger brew was almost shockingly bitter/astringent – it was improved with soymilk & sugar, but still pretty meh. Tried a second steep, which was much of the same, though a bit milder.

Now about half an hour after finishing, I can still taste a sort of tarry buildup on the back of my throat, as if I’d been smoking. I don’t think I’ll be buying this again.

A pretty good fruit infusion that lifts you up. I especially like the tangy taste.
I’ll have to try it it cold next time, I bet it makes a great iced tea for those scorching summer days.

Hello! For my first tasting note I thought I’d start with the tea that really kicked off my addiction collection.

The tea smells wonderful; when I first got the packet I spent the next few hours holding it against my face and sniffing it. It smells that good: warm toffee and nuts. I remember wishing that there was a perfume of it.

The last few times I’ve had this tea I’ve found it very easy to overbrew, but it didn’t help that I probably put too much tea in the mug to begin with. This time I took more care and it’s made a real difference to the colour – more of a golden brown than the almost-black I had before.

The toffee-nut smell isn’t so strong anymore now the tea is brewed, there’s more of a malty aroma instead. After tasting it I think I could have made it a fair bit stronger with the shorter brewing time. The toffee seems more of an afterthought than anything else, but it builds up while you drink more.

This wasn’t an amazing cup of tea, but I’m still experimenting with strength and brewing times. If nothing else, I’d keep it for the smell. And thank you, Melissa, for the tea.

It’s of the utmost importance that I figure out if I am a heffalump or a woozle, and what colour I am. I fear my brain may go BOOM! if I don’t figure it out ASAP. O.o

Either I’ve completely lost my mind, or my craving for black tea with honey had something to do with it.

I like to use a CTC tea when adding honey, so that it doesn’t overwhelm the tea itself, since honey is so strong. This one was a good choice. Good body, steeped it a wee bit long so that the honey dulled the mild bitterness without camouflaging the lovely black base.

I need to get my hands on some more Whittards blacks. They’re quite lovely and versatile and some of the nicer CTC teas I’ve had. A friend brought me a 3 pack of adorable tins of Whittards tea when she went to England last year. I wonder how bad shipping would be….

OMGsrsly

You can get them at Winners/Homesense fairly regularly. I don’t think there are many right now, but in a month or so they should get more stock. But you never know. (Also, elephant tins!!)

Bear With Me

Were the elephant tins Whittards teas?!?! OOH! Even more reason to get them! I mean, uhh, I don’t like elephants and fun tins, not in the slightest…

OMGsrsly

I’m pretty sure yes. But if not (what other tea company starts with a ‘wh’ sound?!) they do carry boxes sometimes too. (Googled.) Williamsons. :( Thise are the elephants. Darn it!

Bear With Me

bummer, but possibly still worth checking out! worse comes to worse I use the tea to make kombucha if it’s crappy tea, then fill the effelants with something more awesome! (kind of like how I want the rainbow DAVIDs pink lemonade special tin, but I want to dump the pink lemonade into a plain tin and fill the tin with Janet’s Rainbow Rooibos. I mean come on, rainbow tins need rainbow teas!!)

OMGsrsly

Rainbows! :)

Bear With Me

need ALL the rainbow things!
