Whittard of Chelsea

Drank this because http://www.jaydeee.net/pickatea.php. I forgot which of the wonderful steepster people made it, but I think it’s fun.

I’m drinking a lot of Yorkshire tea at work at the moment and the first thing I notice about this is that it has more Indian tea – Assam etc I think – than Yorkshire tea. That’s obvious from the smell. I’m waiting for it to cool down

The box holding the teabags says it should be brewed with boiling water for 4-5 minutes, but I found 1 minute and 80 degC was perfectly good. Maybe I’ll try their suggestion, after discovering how good my yellow tea is after brewing for 20 minutes, but I always go for a short brew time on sencha, because I find they can get bitter. This was perfectly good, although unsurprisingly not as nice as the loose leaf sencha I have

You have to use boiling water, I used cooler water and got way more bergamot than I was hoping for, and not enough tea flavour

That’s the end of my Earl Grey. I very much enjoyed it but now I’ll have to find some more Earl Grey to go in my special Whittard tea box. Although I’m continually trying to cut down on tea, Earl Grey is a cupboard essential

I don’t often have Earl Grey but it’s very tasty and this has almost run out. I have it black, but my housemate put some milk in it

Phenomenal after-dinner tea, when you want the taste of a good dessert but not the calories! So glad Whittard’s is making this again!

A bit more astringent than I expected (esp. since the water I steeped it in was extra cool to avoid burning it). The blossoms in the tea are large and pretty. Will try again later to see if maybe I made a steeping error, but so far not blown away.

I had the last war tea this evening. I have been drinking less tea because it is so hot these days, but sitting outside at 10.30pm with a cup of war tea was splendid. I am wondering whether to get loose leaf lapsang souchong at some point because i’m sure it’ll be better

I have lots to add to my tealog but I have had a couple of days of green tea and suddenly craved a bit of “war tea” as we call it. Craving it was made easier by the fact it’s in bags, not loose

I never used to like this tea. My friends and I say it tastes of war. Or at least of war films. But I quite like the smokiness now, with a little milk

I should really keep a tea timer besides me when I am going to write these posts because most of my steep times are close guesses. I know for sure that this one was just at or under 2 mins though. It is lighter in color so it’s a bit deceiving.

My mother-in-law bought this back from Europe for me and I must saw it is superb! The moment I opened the bag and the aroma spilled out I knew I was going to fall in love with it. I’m tempted to add some honey to see what it would do but at the same time, it’s so good on it’s own that I don’t really want to…. I don’t think I will.

I found this in the clearance section of my grocery store and just couldn’t leave it there, even though my tea cabinet is delightfully stocked. I’m always curious about an Earl Grey I’ve never tried, and this one was 50% off!

This is my first tea from Whittard of Chelsea, and from the taste of it, it is a good first impression. The black tea base tastes more like Chinese black tea, though it’s a blend of Indian tea as well. It’s robust but not too bitter, and a tad astringent. A good morning tea.

The bergamot is nicely balanced. Not blaringly lemony, and not too strong to be the only flavor noticeable. It’s actually pretty smooth, and despite the strength of the tea, it’s soothing in a way. I should mention that I made this iced, but I’ve also had it hot and the experience was also very pleasant. Though I prefer the Greys I’ve had from Harney & Son’s, this will probably be my go-to if I just can’t wait for shipping!

Cold-brewed overnight using 3 heaped tsp tea for 500 ml water.

I’ve tried this hot, and like the other reviewers found it disappointingly light in flavor, especially considering how wonderful the dry leaf smells. Fortunately the lovely fruitiness comes out more in the cold brew – and even more with a drizzle of agave – yet remains quite delicate. It probably would have been more appropriate for them to call it a scented tea rather than flavored, but the gentle stone fruit aroma lingers on the palate very nicely. It’s much better as a cold beverage than hot (which makes sense, with the Ceylon base and the Jubilee itself taking place in June), but for some reason the packaging doesn’t indicate this, nor does it give steeping amounts or times. Get your act together, Whittard!

If you still have some of this left and were underwhelmed when you first tasted it, try a cold brew. It might change your mind, and help get you through your stash!

I just opened a medium-HUGE bag of this stuff and will be sending a slew of it to my Sororitea Sisters

It smells like a floral white tea with wine-like aroma underneath. The color once infused is that of a pale-yellow on the verge of a faint khaki color.

This is sweet but floral. Extremely fresh, clean, and thirst-quenching! A True Gem!

Good both hot and cold. It seems sweeter iced, tho!
