Laziness on my part: there’s a listing for what I’m drinking as part of a set…those inexpensive gift tea sets where the tins are prettier than the tea tastes…but I don’t remember the brand name. It’s a cheapie bagged orange/green tea from the set. Lots of pith and peel taste that can run to bitterness if you’re not careful, but I strongly prefer pithy orange flavor over tart, make-your-eyes-bleed citrus sourness.

Pure laziness posting as “random” on my part; this is just from my generic stash of Tulsi leaves and I was too tired to actually hunt up the company source. Trying to get ducks in a row for a couple of days off work, I’ve been in complete “rev” mode all day and can’t un-rev. So I steeped this hard and long in hopes it will uncrimp the back of my neck.

Tonight’s elderberry experiment: added some elderly Belgian chocolate rooibos. Worked, but the straight up cocoa nibs were better. Wonder what else this will meld with…suggestions?

Still immunity boosting, but what a way to do it: 1 teaspoon dried elderberries, scant teaspoon cocoa nibs, long steep; 8 minutes, maybe. Nearly black as my cat, thick, and it tasted like an unsweet Cadbury fruit and nut bar. Must do that again!

Terri HarpLady

hmmm…I might have to give this a try…I love Elderberry…I love Chocolate…

OMGsrsly

That sounds so good.

Kyla Covington Abercrombie

Where did you purchase the dried elderberry from??

Kittenna

Interesting. I haven’t had a Fruit & Nut in ages but they are sooooo delicious…

gmathis

Bought dried berries bulk from local health food place.

Some high-intensity activity and travel ahead in a few weeks; prepping with a steady stream of vitamins and immunity boosters. So bulk dried elderberries caught my eye at Fox Farm this afternoon. My mema swears by elderberry extract. Brought home a cheap trial ounce. They smell like raisins. I tossed about 1/2 teaspoon in with a cup of plain loose leaf Ceylon. It tasted just a little deeper/darker with some raisin-ness in the background…may try the next spoonful straight up, or with some cocoa nibs. It can’t hurt…

Terri HarpLady

I drink elderberry tea all the time. 1T x 8oz for 5 – 10 minutes, that’s my preferred parameters :)

TeaBrat

i’ve heard good things about elderberry, I should try it.

I’ve either been too busy/distracted to record much of late, or once I finally find some quiet time for a cuppa, I don’t want to ruin the quiet with online distractions. But another lovely cold front passing through has finally brought back good tea season.

Three lovelies I’ve enjoyed this week are Choco Nut Blend (Ambessa; and don’t let the choco fool you. It’s nut and apricot), Teavana English Breakfast, and Autumn’s Walk, a really nice chocolate-vanilla-rooibos-hazelnut personal blend still available at Adagio. All good for watching rain and leaves starting to turn.

Terri HarpLady

Ooh, that autumns walk sounds like a nice evening tea :)

gmathis

It is all hazelnutty mellowness. Great substitute for a real caffeinated latte.

It’s taking forever for me to get through Red Leaf samples for review; chiefly because I’m trying to be unbiased and consistent in my ratings. I’m about as consistent as a….[insert most inconsistent simile possible here]. This one’s nice; color’s more forest than frog; not a bit of bitterness.

At any rate, I’m amassing quite the bundle of little samples…as we’ve got a heat wave headed this way, I need to fish around and find your favorite chilled matcha frosty goody recipes. Unless, of course, you’d care to save me some search time and throw some suggestions my way here ;)

OMGsrsly

Throw it into a smoothie. I’ve been doing 2 tbsp cream, 1-1.5 cups almond milk, enough frozen mango to make it thick and milkshake-like (about 1 cup?), and 1/2 to 1 tsp matcha. You can use pretty much any frozen fruit, but if you choose berries either use more cream, or add part of a frozen banana for smoothness.

gmathis

I’ve never tried almond milk either…sounds like an opportunity for some serious horizon-broadening!

OMGsrsly

:) I have it because while I love regular milk, it makes me sick. So a little cream for richness, almond milk to dilute, etc. I usually use unsweetened.

Mental health day. (Yeah, it’s been that bad at work. I took two.) And in doing so, have had some lovely discretionary time to organize the next round of writing assignments, lunch with the hubby, and sort son’s bin of Star Wars books for weekend citywide garage sale. One of the three activities made me weepy and sentimental. Guess which one.

(Say what you will about Episode I. It will always have a soft spot in my heart. Young Anakin was perfect for my movie-going five-year-old.)

And as I wipe away the sniffles and dust mites, I’m giving a trial run to another of the unnamed, unflavored Red Leaf samples sent this way for a road test. I like the flavor of this one the best—it’s wonderfully mild and sweet—but the color is more like split pea soup left out overnight. I guess you can put “drink with eyes closed” on the steeping instructions?

K S

Yeah to mental health days! I used to call them sanity days.

I can understand your attachment to Episode I, but please, oh Pleeeeze Disney, make Episode VII more like IV or even III. I said please.

In this case, cola tea (cola/rooibos) of indeterminate age and origin, sun tea’d in a Mason jar and thrown into the fridge. Leans more toward Dr. Pepper or RC than Coke, but won’t turn chicken bones into rubber :)

Perfect apres-mow beverage while I nurse my shoulder—first workout since a cortisone shot probably shouldn’t have been mowing the ditch with weeds the texture of wet rope.

Experiment #2 with my first Red Leaf unflavored matcha sample; whisked up (a little more vigorously this time) a cup, then gave a spring of fresh applemint a 3-minute bath. Works nicely—-Green (Apple) Frog!

gmathis

Another rookie question—-those of you who buy an ounce at a time…help my spatially challenged mind….would that make a 1/2 cup in a measuring cup? More?

Don’t you love surprise tea boxes waiting for you at the end of a rough, rough, rough workday? (Kinks in neck, permanent crease in forehead, blood pressure at low boil?)

In this case, it was a selection of matcha samples for taste testing from Red Leaf Tea. Matcha and I haven’t spent much time together and much of it has been comedies of error, so this will be a wonderful educational opportunity. I carefully followed Red Leaf’s general preparation instructions, minus a proper bowl and whisk, and am now curiously peering into a cup of what looks like squished frog and creek water, but tastes rich and mild and a little grassy.

Experts, does a little matcha still settle to the bottom of your cup if you’ve properly whisked it, or is it because I made do with a fork?

caile

Lol, squished frog and creek water – glad the taste is better! ;-)

OMGsrsly

Probably a little of both! I find that higher quality matcha can stay suspended longer, but it is little chunks of tea leaves so they do settle.

A juggle-twelve-plates-at-once day at work followed by the aftermath of a bathroom install not going smoothly (aftermath=stressed spouse, late and improvised dinner, can’t shower). Don’t stand downwind.

Hoped that a cup of applemint with a basil leaf tossed in would be soothing and refreshing. Wasn’t as strong and medicinal as hoped, but still pleasant. Praying for a restful night and improved outlook come morning.

On a slightly more entertaining note, the neighbors’ chickens are laying and they shared. I made an omelet with slightly blueish eggs.

TheTeaFairy

I hope you get a well deserved rest…

The omelet sounds great, but I’m a little worried about the “slightly blueish eggs”, lol! Are they Blue Feet Chickens?

gmathis

They’ve got several denominations going in the backyard; not sure what’s what…the flock started as their high school son’s FFA project, I think. They were a little paler than robin’s eggs. Yellowest yolks I’ve ever cooked, I think.

Veronica

My friend had a Bantam that would lay eggs with a bluish tint. They were yummy. :)

ashmanra

I’m betting Ameracaunas or Easter Eggers. Neat! And I know what you mean – now that I have backyard chickens, my cake batters are the deepest golden yellow color. The yolks stand up so tall and are so richly colored, and I don’t even buy the feed with color enhancers. It is just because they free range.

Jillian

By blue do you mean the shells or the contents? /dumb city kid post/

Angrboda

This is another of the reasons we always buy organic eggs. Much prettier on the inside and the chickens are well looked after. :) (I can’t for the life of me understand why battery eggs are not illegal in this country. They ought to be!)

gmathis

Jillian, the shells…very pale. There were several varieties in the carton she brought me ranging from that color to golden toast. Looked like a little egg rainbow!

Jillian

Cool, thanks for clearing that up gmathis.

First run with our fresh chocolate mint leaves from our back porch container. Very very light flavor out of these small leaves; if you scrunch up your face and concentrate, you get the chocolate. Next cup, I will toss in some cacao nibs. That ought to make a squinch-free cup.

K S

It just sort of hints and chocolate to me as well, but it is a nice soft mint that goes great with puerh.

caile

I just bought a chocolate mint plant and am looking forward to brewing up some leaves this summer. : )

gmathis

Hubby caved and got us a pineapple mint, so we’ve got the full spectrum in our little container garden now. Will have to hone my drying/preserving technique now.

caile

That’s great – it sounds like you have a nice selection of mints now! I’ve smelled pineapple mint and it was lovely. I also have one regular mint plant that I got last year but am waiting to see if it survived the winter.

I’ll borrow this heading for a lovely cuppa I enjoyed last evening: despite my bumbling and splotchy skill as a gardener, our potted mint plants are doing beautifully. Last night I had my first steeping from the applemint plant. Ten fresh leaves, crushed, a good eight minutes in the cup. The mint was gentle, not sharp. Don’t know that I was specifically getting apple, but there was some soft fruitiness in the background. Quite pleasant.

Christina / BooksandTea

Ooh, that sounds lovely. I had some tea a few nights ago that was just black bagged tea with fresh mint, and the mint made it taste wonderful. What exactly is applemint, though?

Suziqzer

I’ve not heard of applemint.. does it smell of fruit? Fresh mint is always great!

Terri HarpLady

My mints are all up & thriving, along with some cilantro that self-seeded. I’m thinking I need to make a vietnamese salad for lunch tomorrow.

Suziqzer

Yum.. Fresh garden salsa w/home grown cilantro.. Where is summer ?

gmathis

K S sent a sample of homegrown chocolate mint (which really had some cocoa taste going in the background) last summer. That prompted a visit to local nursery to discover how many mint varieties there are. We tried three: applemint, orange mint, and chocolate mint. Tried a steep of the orange last night, and it was more true to its name. We also saw a pineapple mint.

Terri HarpLady

I have a few mints here, & although I’m not always a big fan of mint in my tea, I do enjoy them in my salad, & nothing says ‘refreshing’ more than a few sprigs of mint in a glass of cold water!

gmathis

I would’ve never thought of mint in a salad, but we’ll give it a try—maybe with a little spinach and strawberry vinaigrette…?

Terri HarpLady

I usually feature it in a vietnamese style salad, with shredded asian cabbage, grated carrot, thinly sliced radishes, cilantro, green onions, & a dressing of fish sauce )or soy sauce, rice vinegar, lime juice, ginger, garlic, rice vinegar, a little maple, & toasted sesame oil. I think that’s everything! Toasted cashews make a nice addition to the salad. Traditionally it has chicken on it, but you can put anything on it. Goi Ga is the actual salad’s name. I had it at Mai Lee restaurant here in st. louis once, then found a recipe & have been eating it ever since. Although I haven’t had it for awhile.

Terri HarpLady

And here’s a recipe!
http://www.girlcooksworld.com/2012/07/goi-ga-vietnamese-spicy-chicken-and-cabbage-salad.html
I’ve never tried this recipe, but it looks about right.
Also, I don’t really care much for chicken. When I was a vegan I ate this with smoked tofu, or crispy fried tofu triangles, or tempe, or extra nuts. Otherwise, you can put any form of protein on it.

gmathis

Thanks! Sounds like a “make it once and eat it all week at work” recipe. I’ve been needing to get a small bottle of fish sauce—it keeps cropping up in things I want to try.

Terri HarpLady

I adore fish sauce, LOL. I recommend red boat brand, but if you can’t get red boat, Thai kitchen is pretty good too.
Regarding the salad, I’ve been known to make a very big pile of it, along with a large batch of the dressing in a jar, & just grab a handful for lunch (and maybe again for dinner), using different toppings as fits my mood. I pretty much lived off that salad during the last 3 months of my son Leif’s pregnancy (and he still weighed over 10#).

So I came by this tea by way of one of my friends, Joe. It was given to his boss by a former employee, but his boss doesn’t like tea so he gave it to Joe. There were two canisters, so he gave one to me. I put up a discussion and with help from lovely Steepster-ites, especially Rie T, it was identified as an Alishan high mountain oolong. How lucky for me! I tried to post some pictures but for some reason I can’t paste links in this review. Weird.
Anyway, I brewed it at 90C for 3 min because it seemed like the thing to do? If anyone has suggestions, send them my way please :)
The main feature of this tea is a thick creamy mouthfeel for the majority of the sip with a subtle creamy flavor. However, the finish is tiny pop of citrus rather like a clementine followed by a pronounced rush of clean sweetness that I would associate with honeysuckle. Overall pretty pleasant and the best part of all is that it was FREE and I have a ton.

Preparation
195 °F / 90 °C 3 min, 0 sec 1 tsp 8 OZ / 236 ML
boychik

Gongfu
4-5g 4 oz glass pot 195F
Rinse/5/10/15 sec etc see how you like it. You can combine steeps in one mug. But I would taste first. Increase or decrease time based on how you like it:)

Cheri

Sounds YUMMY!

Hey Steepster, it’s been a while! I’ve missed y’all! Is Steepster back to normal? I hope so!

My parents came for a visit for five days, so there wasn’t as much time for tea drinking and practically none for reviewing. The next day, I left for the east coast and just got back tonight. I need more vacation to recover, although I had a fabulous time!

While the parents were in town, I introduced my mom to GO, which she loved of course. I made her some of my David’s Teas as well as she’s not really into tea and prefers the flavored to unflavored. She particularly enjoyed chocolate rocket and I sent her home with a box of Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride since she declared that she couldn’t be bothered with loose leaf. And she helped me organize all my teas and they’re now in labeled boxes on a nifty tea cart, which I think is adorable.

The day my parents left, I got home from work late but wanted to sit down and enjoy one tea damnit. I picked the Jabberwocky, which for some unfathomable reason I’ve been ignoring. Mmmm, bready, buttery, caramel-y, chocolately goodness with a fresh breeze finish. That tea is fantastic!

The next day I had to arrive at work super early to leave by noon to catch my plane to Maryland. I road tripped with the BF up the east coast to Boston and spent most of the time there, which was AWESOME! I love Boston so much and I want to move there STAT.
I did indulge in a little tea tourism there, stopping by Tealuxe (thanks to a stellar recommendation from christeana1) and David’s Tea, because I’ve never been to an actual location before.

At Tealuxe, I had my first bubble tea and the ever-patient BF was quite pleased to introduce me to a type of tea I hadn’t had before. I had the Caramel Creme Brulee black tea and the BF got the Strawberry sencha green (both as bubble teas). The caramel creme brulee was pleasant and the flavor was subtly done, not too in your face at all. I have to say that I mainly got caramel and was missed that burnt sugar taste, but I liked it and the bubbles were fun. The strawberry sencha green bubble tea tasted just like strawberry milk, like the employee told me it would. Props to Tealuxe for having friendly, knowledgeable employees and a super cute store that reminded me of Ollivander’s wand shop in the best way! I picked up some Darjeeling Silver Tips that I’m excited to try.

http://instagram.com/p/sVkIgWKm0d/

The main goal at David’s Tea was to sign up for the frequent steeper program, which was accomplished. I tried a couple of the new fall teas while I was there, maple sugar and sweet apple cider. Both were tasty and pretty much what you’d expect. I did enjoy the apple element to the maple sugar and the BF liked it too. He just sat in a corner and was like “Go talk about tea with people, I’ll be over here” lol. So I did. Again, the employees were very knowledgeable and friendly even though the store was pretty busy. One wanted to know how I found out about David’s and I told him about Steepster, which he said he probably needed to join! Their new multicolor leaf mug and raccoon mug are super cute, but I managed to resist. It was easier to resist because the BF did buy me an absolutely beautiful (if I do say so myself) new mug at the Museum of Fine Art gift shop like the day before:
http://instagram.com/p/sbdA4FKmzJ/
Also, the MFA had a whole teapot exhibit! Squeeee!!
http://instagram.com/p/sVS6P3Km-o/
Anyway, back to David’s Tea. Their new dandelion teapot and cups are ADORABLE and I want them, but didn’t buy them. No room for lots of teaware :(. I did pick up some oolong though, their pouchong and tie kwan yin. I haven’t really tried any of their plain oolongs yet, so I’m looking forward to that. Their store was also quite cute:
http://instagram.com/p/sYlA2zKm3E/

We had dim sum today before I left and I really liked the oolong so I inquired what tea it was. The waiter looked in the pot and said “oolong”, to which I replied “I know, but what kind of oolong?”. He looked it the pot again and said some string of gibberish that may or may not have been actual words, finished by “this oolong”. Um, thanks? LOL

I’m back home now and hanging with one of my favorite teas, yunnan silver needle by whispering pines. Just what I need to relax with before I have to go back to work (boo hiss).

TheTeaFairy

That review was so entertaining, thanks for sharing!
And yo, gibberish oolong? That’s one I’ve never tried, LOL!!!

mj

Thanks TTF :). LOL, too bad about the gibberish oolong. It was quite pleasant and probably economical too.

boychik

i wish my hubby was so patient;) Glad you had fun ;-)

mj

boychik, he is ever so patient. It’s one of the things that’s great about him! And thanks, I had a blast!

hippiechick 42

Love this review!

christeana1

Im so glad you enjoyed boston! I loved reading this review!

mj

Thanks, hippiechick and christeana!

Hillel

Well damn! I wish I’d know you were in town. We could have arranged a tea party. Sounds like you got your fill of tea while you were here though. When’s the next time you’re coming through?

mj

Hey Hillel! This trip was crazy because the BF was in the middle of moving to Boston and we didn’t have any of his stuff yet so we were basically camping in his empty apartment (with no way to make tea!). That’s why I didn’t try to set anything up. I don’t have my next trip planned yet, but I’ll probably be visiting every month or two. We should totally have a tea party! I think Sherapop and Christeana1 are also in/near Boston.

I had an excellent tea-receiving day and a terrible tea-drinking day. I got a most excellent package from Virginia and my mom sent me this book:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0789209888/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
She sent it just because (what we refer to in my family as a “happy”), but it got stuck in loading dock jail at the university :(
I had a super busy day with like 3 experiments happening simultaneously, so I got in one darjeeling before work and then nothing else the whole day. I didn’t get home til after 8pm, so too late for caffeinated teas. Boo.
I finally decided that my mint had grown enough to harvest and try a cup of tea. It’s in my front window and I have to lean over a chair to water it, plus it’s been growing like a weed- so I haven’t been inspecting it at all closely. When I did look closely as I started harvesting, IT WAS COMPLETELY COVERED IN APHIDS. PANIC!!!! First step, isolation. I have twelve other plants, so I chucked it on the back porch of my apartment building. Sorry, neighbors. (I’m not sorry). When I examined the window where it was, the wood was also covered in freaking aphids and I doused it with furniture polish. Sorry, aphids. My neem oil is at work, so I plan to start treating with neem oil tomorrow. Experienced gardeners, do you have any other tips? I’m super nervous for my other plants now and I feel like there are bugs crawling all over my scalp. Gross.

MzPriss

Oh no – that sucks! My usual cure for aphids is lady bugs but that probably won’t work inside your house. I would spray everything down with some insecticidal soap (it is an approved organic method) and then besure you rinse anything you will eat really really well. :(

Nxtdoor

My freaking rose bush is getting eaten too. Some sort of white fuzzy bug. I am not a gardener so I don’t even know what bug this is. I shall have to google. But we sprayed with insecticidal something and it was free of one bug and now it’s another. I’m kinda giving up on it. Gardening is HARD!

SarsyPie

I’m surprised aphids went after mint. Mint is normally pretty pest-free. I use organic dish soap in a spray bottle of water. I use it for my dishes, so I feel safe using it on my plants. :)

I forget the exact ratio, but it’s not much. A few tbsps in the bottle. Works great and it’s cheap. First I “flick” off as many aphids as I can, outside of course. Then I shake the bottle and give it a good dousing of soapy water spray twice per day.

Mint usually benefits from a good cut-back once in awhile, so I’d probably give it a little “haircut” first in this case, then do the soap. That way you aren’t eating aphid leaves later. I don’t think they’re as highly sought as leafhopper leaves. Good luck!!!

Uniquity

My grandfather was a farmer and at least for the last thirty years of his life (not sure about the start) he used a solution of water and dish soap to keep pests off his plants. Works great, doesn’t harm the plant and doesn’t hurt people and animals either.

MzPriss

Insecticidal soap is pretty much the same thing and I’ve also used the dish soap. And I’m also surprised by aphids on mint – they usually like sweeter things

mj

I was also extremely surprised. Where did they come from?? I got those plants from Amazon and opened the package inside. I certainly didn’t notice any bugs then. Maybe they’re not actually aphids? I did some googling and I couldn’t figure out what else they could be. They look a lot like aphids and don’t look like common mint pests (spider mites, loopers, flea beetles), but I’m certainly no expert. Thanks everyone, I will try the dish soap!
LOL @Sars and the “leafhopper” mint leaves

SarsyPie

:p

Let us know how it goes. The one great thing is that mint is damn near impossible to kill and should make a full recovery for you. :)

boychik

Could they be mealy? White cottony? Google the image. I use solution of 1/2 water 1/2 alcohol and few drops of neem oil. Water should be warm. Shake well and spray everywhere. Replace the soil. It should be fast draining. Don’t put in sunny location, neem will cook it. Google gardenweb Tapla pest mix solution. He is guru of soil mixes and solutions. You can even email him and he always responds. Good luck

hippiechick 42

Jealous of the book! ;P. I am so sorry about the mint. Hopefully some of the ideas stated will work for you! Let us know.

Apparently today was Butiki day for me and I’ve already reviewed these teas, some of them more than once, so I figured I’d just put them under random steepings.

For breakfast, I went with a resteep of the Taiwanese wild mountain black. It didn’t resteep particularly well. By that I mean that it was just too weak for my taste. It was still delicious and went really well with my peanut butter toast :-)

Since I got to work, I’ve been drinking Killer’s Vanilla. So freaking good. I would bathe in it if I could. It gave me lots of energy, but that hasn’t really translated into lots of work. Since our flow cytometer is still broken, I am stuck with data analysis. It’s an absolutely gorgeous day (finally warm! thank the heavens for that!), the last work day before a long weekend, and I just want to be outside!!!!

After Killer’s vanilla I switched it up and went with raspberry truffle. I feel like I may have sold this one a little short in my initial review and may revisit it tomorrow. That’s a theme that I’ve been noticing as I am trying more and more teas. When I go back to a Butiki tea that I only tried once, I like it much better the second time. Usually, it’s the opposite for me. I swear Stacy’s not paying me to rave about her teas all the time lol

IS IT TIME FOR HAPPY HOUR YET?? I can’t wait to go. My friends and I are meeting at one of our favorite places on the Mississippi River and the weather is literally perfect. Happy weekend everyone!

Megan

Sorry your flow cytometer was down :( Always a bummer when things break. What do you work on? I love fellow scientists!

mj

I study T cell development, thymic aging, and thymopoiesis following radiation injury to the thymus. What do you work on? I also love fellow scientists :-)

I had two different teas in my two large infusers and I thought I saved the ATR Brioche for a resteep, but it turns out I saved the H&S Soho blend instead. It’s hard to be mad about this, but I don’t have much of the Brioche! Mondays…blech. Any tips on how to save and keep track of the different teas you drink for resteeps?

Marzipan

I never save them past the current day.

mj

Really? I have been just keeping them in the fridge if I want to keep them over night. Do you not save them because of concerns about bacterial growth or for another reason?

Marzipan

I have read that there are concerns with mold growing, but I think it’s more of a feeling of completion than anything. I am almost always disappointed in resteeps anyway.

I’ve been busy this weekend! Not too busy for tea, mind you, but I haven’t been able to get any reviews done. I’ve just been drinking my favorites (Butiki Killer’s Vanilla, Harney and Sons Soho Blend, American Tea Room’s Brioche, etc.) but the best part is that I’ve been introducing my friend Joe to all my awesome teas as well. He recently decided not to drink soda anymore and to drink tea instead. He bought a Bigelow sampler and liked everything but the Earl Grey (Blergamots unite!). I loaded him up with a bunch of samples, brewing some for him here since he doesn’t even have an infuser yet. He said “All your teas are so amazing! Much better than soda and I’ll save money now that I’m not buying soda.” I managed not to laugh but didn’t have the heart to break it to him that he will probably be spending much more on tea!

TheTeaFairy

Yay! Another tea convert!
Lol, yep, tea addiction is far more expensive than soda, but so much more satisfying!

Suziqzer

I think it depends on how you look at it as it’s expense. If you can stick to a few varieties and not get plugged in here, you might be ok ;) But, on the flip side, I’m glad I found this place!! Love it and all the generous people that instill the yearning to try everything!

I also think we need to look at the cost from a health standpoint. I cut soda mostly out when I started drinking teas. I still use some sugar in most of my tea, but not nearly as much as I consumed in my soda. And diet.. who knows what’s in that? I think tea will eventually save us in health costs when it means eliminating soda from our diets. That one’s not as easy to see, but valid I think.

mj

I totally agree with you, Suziqzer! Tea is definitely the healthier choice. There are no antioxidants in soda! I just meant it was more expensive from a financial point of view. Steepster has exacerbated that problem, but I’m loving all the new teas I’m trying and how much I’m learning from everyone here!

Big Apple…David’s Tea (cold brewed and drunk later at work)
Swampwater…David’s Tea (iced and brought to work)

Wah! I really want Swampwater to come back. I have a little of this left, and I have a little Big Apple left, though I can hopefully get more before it is gone. I have to say I like Big Apple better hot rather than cold steeped, but good both ways. As for Cantaloupe and Cream…as always, it is PERFECT.

I am very sad, because I was looking back through my tasting notes for the day, and saw that my post from this morning was missing :( I was (and still am) excited because my swap from Roswell Strange was waiting for me when I got to work!!! I also got my box from MissB late in the day yesterday!!!

I was so excited that I decided to do a “Fandom Day” with the samples from Cavo and Roswell

I wish Steepster or my browser hadn’t eaten my note.

Dexter

Bad Steepster -at least you noticed. Awesome tea day though!!!

Haha thanks…I have to pick a theme for tomorrow too.

MissB

It’s been a good tea day so far! I mailed out my tea swap packages to Cavocorax, Roswell Strange, and Carol Who this morning!

I had two great teas, which I will log later (White Rhino by Butiki, and Caramel Almond Amaretti by Teavana)

AND I am going out with a friend tonight for Japanese and the restaurant serves Matcha-based cocktails!!! I am excited!!!

Great! O boy, oh boy! More tea! A matcha based cocktail sounds interesting… give us a report back on that one. :)

I would also like to hear about matcha-based cocktails! Intriguing!

They had Matcha Lattes, Matcharitas, Matchatinis, and a Matchajito. I tried the Matcharita. It was pretty good. I don’t know that I would get it again, but it was fairly tasty! I looked on Pinterest and there are TONS of recipes for Matcha based cocktails if you are interested. :)

Roswell Strange

Swap box went out to you today; I had time to finish packaging it up this morning so I sent it along with what I was sending to VariaTEA. Hopefully it gets to you soon!

I got my tea swap in the mail from cavocorax AND Carol Who!!! (I’ll go post it in the forums too…)

But I am so excited!!!

My husband bgrinham aka Brian will also be sampling all of the teas if you want to follow him as well!

Right now I have a cup of “Nina’s Paris” steeping and he has a cup of “Chocolate Monkey” in his cup!

Roswell Strange

Hooray for tea swaps! Hopefully the one from me is quick to follow.

I hope so too! We are looking forward to the matcha! I am putting the finishing touches on your package so I can get it in the mail on Wednesday!

Cavocorax

I love it when you get multiple packages in all at once. Also I love that your husband is on Steepster too! Hi bginham!

Brian

Hello cavocorax :), I actually joined Steepster first and then introduced my wife to the site :)
