Trying this again as an iced tea.
I just don’t like it as much as the Peach Ginger from Zhena’s Gypsy Tea. Its not as pleasant. I think it’s the tea base that does it for me.
I have 3 bags left, I might try brewing two bags at once for the next batch, and to use it up faster.
Preparation
I picked up a 6 bag “Traveler’s Tea Tin” of this.
Very fragrant tea. I can taste the peach, but I’m not getting a lot of the ginger. I suspect it might come out more when iced, but I was expecting a bit of a bite from it, and it’s just not there.
Not a bad tea, but not one I think I’ll consiously want again – I’ll just use these up and reuse the cute little travel tin for loose tea, if I feel like it won’t open on it’s own.
Preparation
I love, love, love this tea. The blend is amazing, and the aroma and taste is delicious. What I like is that unsweetened, the blackberry flavor is very subtle and the sage mellow; sweetened, the blackberry pops and the sage is still mellow. I usually drink hot, but it is very good iced as well.
Preparation
i haven’t drank this tea is over a year, but i logged it back then a year ago, when i was new to steepster and really into herbal tea.
wow i’ve come so far.
basically i logged this tea and never made a note, so here it is. my note.
i was just learning what rooibos was, and didn’t even understand what part of the flavor came from hibiscus.
so cute.
i remember liking the ‘get lost’ tea best because it had orange peel and cinnamon in it. everytime i tried another version of the ‘get’ herbal teas from Republic of Teas i was disappointed. thus i have 2 tins of the ‘get lost’ tea at home and haven’t touched it in forever. sigh.
I was able to taste this wonderful tea thanks to a friend who carried it from US to Italy. We cannot find such a tasty tea in our country (as far as I know).
My thoughts upon it? It’s great, tasty and delicious. Perfect for any time of the day, from breakfast to after dinner. If you have it with red velvet cupcakes you’ll have the perfect mix of sweetness!
Preparation
one of my go to favorites! i buy most tea loose these days, but this one i still purchase even though it comes in teabags. i don’t generally like cinnamon or spicy type teas, but this one has a great balance of sweetness and kick. sweet orange and very light warm cinnamon. though i try to keep lots of variety in my cabinet, i will regularly drink at least one cup of this tea 5 days a week.
as opposed to a digestion tea, i prefer to think of the lost in “get lost” as this is a tea for a wanderer’s heart or an adventurer’s spirit.
I just found this tea today at Cost Plus and I think I’m in love. I’ve had a bit of a fascination with chocolate teas lately, but it’s tricky to find the good varieties. So many of them include chicory and as someone who can’t stand the taste of coffee, chicory is really just too close in flavor.
This is a black tea and it lacks that extra earthiness that many of the rooibos-based chocolate teas have. I used just one bag in a giant mug with a little raw sugar and had a perfect early evening cuppa. I expect it will also be delicious with a little milk or better yet, a little chocolate liqueur for a nightcap. I love the way the canister smells, like someone just opened a box of Queen Anne Cordials. If you’re expecting it to taste just like the cordials, you’ll be disappointed, but it is wonderfully reminiscent and almost a good substitute for a sweet treat.
Preparation
Republic of Tea is everywhere, it seems….
this morning I went into a “specialty” tea shop in Oakland and all they had was Republic of Tea and Ahmad, don’t know how special that is but I needed some caffeine. The oat and fruit bar I had from there was an excellent breakfast treat, but this tea… so ho hum.
I expect an Irish breakfast tea to be malty and stout but this just seemed like a generic black tea. I put some soymilk in it and it served its’ purpose but there is nothing special or interesting about it. Le snooze
I would suggest the Twinings brand over this one, it’s cheaper and a lot more flavorful.
Preparation
I don’t know exactly what they did to this tea, but it is so sad that this blend has gone from great to mediocre.
Oh, it pains me every time I brew a cup-can’t help remembering how good it was. Hope my other breakfast teas get here soon.
It has been my experience with Republic of Tea that with the bagged varieties, two bags in a tea cup work better than one. They don’t have a whole lot of leaf in those little round bags.
I would suggest the Twinings brand over this one, it’s cheaper and a lot more flavorful.
But is it also lucky? ;)
Re: Twinings
“This tea is best taken with milk and sweetened to taste to bring out the best flavor.”
Amy, have you had this tea straight? Your review didn’t say. I could put soymilk and sugar in this, but I really don’t want to. A good breakfast tea should be able to be consumed straight and I am kinda concerned that they don’t recommend this.
@Scott, I usually drink my black teas with some soymilk (but no sugar), I don’t think I ever tried it straight.
This stuff was okay, evidently it has been sold out and discontinued from the Republic of Tea which is fine with me, I wasn’t really tempted to run out and get any (It was at the house I was staying at over the weekend). As usual I had to use two teabags to get any flavor whatsoever out of an RoT blend but I did think the chocolate/orange rooibos combination seemed promising for a dessert tea, so perhaps I will look for one from another vendor.
Preparation
Another sample from the SF International Tea Festival. I do recall I had this one before at a Panera Bread and I thought it was ok.
One major beef I have with RoT is that their teabags often make a very weak tea so you end up having to use two and this makes it a lot more expensive. I did steep this guy in another mug for 12 oz water for abut 4 minutes and it got sufficiently dark. I do like peach things, and ginger as well. I believe this is a ceylon tea. This isn’t too bad, the flavor is light and pretty juicy. The ginger provides a nice contrast but isn’t too strong in my opinion. My only issue is the slightly weird aftertaste, I am getting, perhaps it’s the paper from the teabag… You do get spoiled rather quickly drinking loose leaf teas!
Anyway this tea is fairly pleasant, I suspect as an iced tea it would be be even better. I do not feel the need to buy any but might pick some up again when I find myself near a Panera.
Preparation
RoT and Stash are far too expensive for no more tea than they put in the bags. Most don’t taste too bad for what theye are but I don’t want a little girl cup of tea. I want a man mug!
I did like this one iced, but without buying more to review it, I think I’d give it a 70-75. Not much higher and definitely not stellar to say the least.
Stash teabas are expensive, but I do like their unigue bagged teas, and I almost always get their loose teas.
I found this weak tea-wise but strong spice-wise, so I usually add a plain black tea bag and I’m good to go. However, there are more interesting chais out there.
Not as enthusiastic as the others here. I thought this was ok – then I got some Hojicha from Ma Cha Tea House in Madison. Way better! I think it has to do with the amount of roasting and my own personal preference, but this tea started to taste like cardboard compared to the other, which is greener but has the same roasted woody notes. Much more flavor, imo, than this Republic of Tea houjicha.
My wife and I really like this tea for its beautiful color, deep strong taste, its depth of flavor, and overall enjoyment…and it supposedly lowers one’s blood pressure. We liked it so much that we requested that our local natural food store carry it. It is currently a real favorite at my house.
Preparation
My fiancé bought this one awhile back because it smelled like barbecue. It seemed fitting to brew some up in my burnt orange University of Texas mug (my alma mater). It smells smoky and tastes smoky. I’m typically not a black tea fan, but I could get into this one. It doesn’t have the bitter tannic taste I can’t stand from black teas. The darkness almost reminds me of a pu-erh, but each time I bring the cup to my lips, I wish I was eating some beef brisket, cole slaw, and pickles. The smoky flavor lingers and lingers for minutes after my last sip.
This tea is quite tasty, but with a relatively high novelty factor. Don’t see myself reaching for it too often, but a good one to keep stocked when I need a bigger caffeine boost or am in that just right Texas summer barbecue mood.
Preparation
I loved this tea. I bought this tea the first time because it won first place at the North American Tea Championships Fall 2010. I had been pretty disappointed with TG’s English Breakfast Blend that had won 3rd place and I figured that there must be something better. This is just Assam and Ceylon-both teas that are self-drinking (unlike a couple of the teas in the TG blend).
The first cup was a revelation. Strong, yes, but not bitter. Bold. Malty. Simple yet very flavorful. Didn’t need milk and sugar to get through the cup like I did with TG’s. In fact, never even tried it with milk or sugar. It was just get it and go. Perfect way to start my day. However, if I only had one tea in the house I could have drank it all day long. If I had been a Steepster member back then I would have given it a rating in the 90’s.
So, when I needed a new boiling water tea (most of my teas brew at 195 or so), I did not hesitate even though it did not win an award in the 2011 Fall NATC.
Liquor is deep copper. Leaves are dark brown/black, short, somewhat needle-like with just a few golden tips/buds mixed in.
This batch has been so…disappointing. It’s not weak, but it’s not nearly so strong and bold. The flavor is just kinda… subdued. Not so malty. Not so anything it was last time. This is not a good thing for a breakfast blend. The first thing I did was to look at the best-consumed by date. I was suspecting they sold me the same batch that I had purchased last year. But no, it was January 2014 as opposed to March 2013 with different production numbers so that wasn’t it. I tried “refreshing” the leaves for 3 seconds in boiling water-to no measurable effect on the flavor.
I understand that variations in climate, precipitation, temperature, etc. can all effect the taste of tea leaves from crop to crop. That is to be expected if tea comes from a single garden. However, I expect a big outfit like RoT isn’t buying from just one Assam garden and one Ceylon garden. I would think they would buy from multiple gardens to try to prevent too much variance in their teas. I suppose climate variations could effect the whole regions too. I don’t know.
I wonder if they are using cheaper and lower quality teas for this blend now and saving the better stuff for their more upscale offshoot, Rare Tea Republic
Well, I’ll drink one cup first thing for now-because I don’t have any other boiling water teas, but I am looking to get some other breakfast-type boiling water teas, so I may or may not finish this.
Preparation
This tea smells amazing. It smells sweet, sugary, with maybe a hint of vanilla and some sweet exotic fruit like dates. After brewing it still smells amazing.
I drink this at work where I have little control over water temperature. So, I’d have to guess that the water temp is probably around 190°F to 200°F. If I steep this for longer than two minutes it’s just too bitter. It works best if I steep for about a minute. It’s a light tasting tea with much less sweetness than I would expect from the aroma and actually has a little bite. The sweet flavor is more in the aftertaste.
Overall impression is that it’s OK, but too bitter for me.
Preparation
I adore cardamom and I’m fond of Republic of Tea, so I was really excited to find this one. But it really isn’t that great – It’s nice and all, with plenty of cardamom and not too much cinnamon but it lacks oomph, or any sort of spark. It is pleasant in a quiet sort of way, with a spicy nose and a soft flavor. I’ll definitely finish the canister, but I won’t buy it again.
Preparation
This one is definitely on the disappointing side. No matter how long I steep it it is just too insipid. There is a hint of apples and spice, enough to make me want to drink something appley and spicy, but it just doesn’t deliver on its promise. It is not entirely flavorless, but far too mild to make me happy. I might eventually finish the canister, given that I’m on a diet and not drinking real apple cider much any more, but I would never buy this again.
