-Dry leaves feature large dense twisted leaves with yellow petals and broken pieces of lemon myrtle. Wet leaves float to the top during steeping and reveal large full leaves.
-Dry blend smells creamy and sweet with a faint hint of citrus. Tea liquor’s aroma is of vanilla and citrus.
-Tea liquor is a bright medium yellow.
-Grassy undertone with a slight lemony finish. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel.
-Best with sweetener.
-Very good tea. Nicely fragrant with a smooth, velvety flavor.
Preparation
Azzrian, you’ve officially earned the title of the person who sent me the tastiest samples. I haven’t been let down yet. Nice oolong flavor with a light citrus flavor and a truly silky vanilla cream flavor. Awesome.
I am particular when it comes to chocolate flavored teas – chocolate anything for that matter, even just chocolate.
This is done well. It does not try to BE chocolate by over flavoring with some nasty chocolate crud that tastes nothing like chocolate.
Same with the mint – its minty but not trying to be too strong.
This is a nice balance!
It is very creamy! Let it cool down a bit and there is a malted milkshake flavor here!
I bet this would be awesome iced!
This is a sample from another order I made with Persimmon Tree but I highly recommend this to any chocolate mint lover!
WOW! This is special. Its one of those teas you have for the first time and wonder how you lived without it for so long. The smell is intoxicatingly caramel. The leaf is so pretty with little bits of caramel and goodness here and there. Not sure what some of those little chunks are but they look pretty. :)
You absolutely can taste the green tea in this even with a nice presence of caramel.
So I really REALLY love caramel but more often than not caramel teas seem to disappoint me for some reason. Maybe I expect too much or perhaps the flavoring is too artificial in some cases. This tea delivers a true caramel flavor and a lovely green tea base that compliment each other wonderfully! Maybe somehow the rooibos helps in this blend.
I realize I have been a Persimmon Tree Tea fan girl as of late and there are a few flavors I have tired I did not care for but today has been a perfect 10 for their blends!
Oh and I got this for only .59 cents with my loyalty points and free shipping!
:) Yay!
I used three teaspoons for 16 ounces – you could go 4 teaspoons.
Preparation
I can’t believe I neglected this when I ordered from them! Thankfully their samples are $1 with free shipping.
Yes but if you request a specific sample for them to add to an oder they always accommodate. I usually get three samples or so with each order! I love this place!
I believe you. Their site appears to be down atm, otherwise I would be compiling a shopping cart full…….
(I was also thinking that whenever I send someone, be it you or whomever, an order from Persimmon Tree, I may also order from say, Upton, and get things from 52teas…. I’m planning this, I am. :D)
Yeah I have not been able to get their site to load all night.
You can send whatever here Kitt … will get it resent to you – is it better on your end to get one big box or several smaller ones? I am off to bed soon PM me which is best.
I’m extremely sleepy this morning. My husband tricked me into going to a dinner party last night which honestly didn’t last too late into the night. But I got home so buzzed I couldn’t sleep until 1 in the morning. He of course passed out right away.
Had this cold steeped tea to cure me from my zombie-like state. I’m really beginning to enjoy whites a lot more than before. I think cold steeping may extract less caffeine because it doesn’t give me that headache I usually get. As a result, I drink more and relax more.
This particular white is fragrant with fruity coconut. I don’t usually think of coconut as fruity, but sometimes it is. Here, it’s fruity and creamy and very tasty. Love the fuzzy little leaves and pretty splash of color from the flowers. I think I prefer the coconut oolongs but this is definitely a light and soothing treat.
Thank you Azzrian for making my morning less foggy with this yummy tea
Received a sample in one of my orders from The Persimmon Tree Tea Company.
There is another database for their teas here on Steepster under The Persimmon Tree as well.
Just sayin.
anyway .. strange thing is I get a mint flavor in this tea that is fairly strong.
Its not a tingle your tongue flavor but certainly picked up in the nostrils and on the mid part of the tongue.
The Persimmon Tree recommends a steep temp of 195 rather than 212.
This has a very bright juicy mouthfeel. I like that.
A robust tea though.
Not normally what I would be drinking at this time of day / night, but I was wanting to try something new from them.
There is a touch of a floral undertone in this tea but ever so delicate.
A nice black tea.
Preparation
Sipdown! Of one of the baggies I got from Sil way, way long ago when we first met.
Definitely is showing its age, as it’s just not as tasty as it used to be (I find oolongs seem to go a bit metallic with age, sometimes, and this one has done that), but still drinkable and thus I have done so tonight. It’s nice to have a bit of time to actually finish a few things off…
Used to really like this, but I’m over it. I’m really not sure why. It’s tasty enough, it just doesn’t seem to sit well with me anymore. Oh well. One serving left and I believe it’s gone (unless there’s some hiding elsewhere. Which is entirely possible).
Another spontaneous choice for travel mug tea which was very successful! This was absolutely delicious in my mug this afternoon. Definitely using up much of the rest in this fashion! :)
Preparation
I did not pay attention to how I brewed this one… but it is absolutely DELICIOUS! Fabulous oolong base, light citrus, and delicious creaminess. Lingering oolong aftertaste. And I just got a rock sugar sweetness from my current sip, like I get from an amazing green. I see why everyone is raving about it! Thank you for sending me a sample, Azzrian , and if their website ever comes back up (I kid), I’ll definitely be making an order sooner rather than later. This one’s definitely a winner. YUM.
The only thing I’d change is brew it a touch stronger. I can’t really recall how much leaf I used though, nor how long I steeped it (3 min??) so will have to pay more attention next time.
ETA: Second infusion, less water (195F) is tasty too. A little lemony, creamy, and with lovely oolong flavour holding it all together. Yum.
ETA again: Third infusion weak, but still smooth and drinkable. Tasty.
Preparation
Coconut is on the verge here; in some sips it tastes soapy, but in others, it tastes like strong coconut. This tea pretty much tastes like a standard coconut crème tea as sold by many other companies; light-tasting, sweet, and coconutty. Pretty enjoyable, but moreso when the coconut is fresher.
Added the rest of my sample from Azzrian to the re-steep of my leaves from the previous day, and threw it in the travel mug. Forgetting, of course, my epic oversteep of the old leaves… so the tea was a bit weak, but drinkable. I’m finding that for the most part, as long as I allow a tea to cool substantially prior to travel-mugging it, it seems to taste ok (unless there are residual flavours. Glitter & Gold’s cinnamon kind of impacted this one…)
Although I have another sample of this, I’m counting this as a sipdown! Yeeaah!
Even waaaayyyy oversteeped (like, 10 minutes oversteeped!) this one is delicious. I’m finding I’m more fond of white blends than I thought… or at least, white blends that actually contain white tea (unlike most of DavidsTeas fruity white blends, where you can hardly find the tea in the mixture, let alone taste it!) This is just so smooth and delicious. I may have ruined it for a second/third infusion, but oh well. Luckily I picked up an additional sample of this one when I made my first Persimmon Tree order, so although I’m nearly finished my generous sample from Azzrian , I still have a reasonable amount left!
Preparation
A bunch of samples from Persimmon? I’ve found a few I like from there, but I have a suspicion that they’re one of the companies that buys tea wholesale and re-sells it. Their White Peach was quite tasty.
Yum. A different enough coconut flavour to make it unique, yet not artificial. Trying to drink down my sample so I can justify buying more! Mom liked this one too. I think she’s a fan of coconut teas that are done well.
Preparation
Wow! This was way better (and different) from what I expected! Thanks for sending me a sample, Azzrian!
The coconut flavour in this blend is definitely different from the typical coconut you get in many teas – it smelled and tasted much like fresh coconut water or milk, which I adore. But it didn’t just taste coconutty – I tasted the white tea underneath as well! Delicious! Unfortunately, I put it in a travel mug after the first sip, and I guess I hadn’t washed the mug out well, because it tasted soapy :( And this time, I definitely don’t blame the tea, because I sampled it pre-mug and it was amazing. Second infusion (180/5.5 min) loses flavour but is still delicious. It’s also a little teeny bit bitter, but I did kind of oversteep it…. (also, just noticed there’s a wonderful creamy aftertaste. Heaven!)
I must say, I’m very, very impressed with the first blend I’ve tried from The Persimmon Tree!! That order is probably going to happen sooner rather than later…. (I want more of this!)
ETA: Third infusion was alright. That was enough, though.
Preparation
Hmm….coconut white hey…2 of my favourite things for tea. I guess I will “have” to look into this company!
Their Canadian shipping looks awful, so if I order, I’ll be sending it to one of the lovely American Steepsters to re-send to me. If you end up wanting to sign up, get some to refer you, because we get points that way (=free tea!)
Grrr it is frustrating some of these amazing looking tea sites and they have atrocious Canadian shipping :(
It’s only just before 3am… hardly late! :P I’m watching the re-run of the Riders vs. Eskimos game (CFL football). And I’m folding laundry. :D
A very nice vanilla bean tea! A good black base that is fairly strong with a lovely french vanilla flavor! I really do love The Persimmon Tree Tea Company. I have only sampled a few flavors that are not my style but that is a personal taste thing. Most of their teas have been very satisfying. You have to try their Mandarin Silk! This one is no exception. I am choosy when it comes to both chocolate and vanilla flavorings and I really do like this one! It is great on its own but I have added a little German Rock Sugar because I have a sweet tooth right now (always).
Preparation
Kit you MUST order from them! Seriously – the reward points build up SO fast that you can place one fair order and as long as you review the teas on their site you get points (like verdant) and they build SO fast! I got three teas two 2 oz and 1 4.5 ounce for under 11.00 FREE SHIPPING – then I got another 2 ounce for 59 cents! The teas are really good – a few I was not too found of but most I have really enjoyed ! Give them a try! I really love White Guava, Mandarin Silk, and this one. I still have a lot more to try and they always send several free samples WHICH you also can review unlike Adagio where you can’t review and get points for samples!
Oh wow. Well I think you sent me one, if not more than one sample from them. I’ll check them out! You seem to be pretty impressed :)
Their teas are not the most complex creations on earth – I mean they can’t be compared to say Tevivre or Verdant but then I have only tried their flavored teas and not their straight.
Definitely was thinking about it!! No more ordering until I’m back from holidays though. I’m already worried that things are going to arrive while I’m gone, and stay cooped up in their packages for two weeks… I think I have 3? things en route right now, Amanda’s nicely going to hang onto my stuff (when it all arrives) so that problem doesn’t arise…
Azzrian – would you like to earn the points by referring me? Not sure what that entails, but you may as well get some $$ (since I’ll probably end up placing an order eventually).
Thanks Azzrian! You won’t get points until my first order, but I will make one…! Eventually :D And probably send it to you :D
Works for me and I can send you more goodies when I forward the package your way! Amanda is welcome to have hers sent here too and I can get it to both of you via you right Kit? If she wants to do that anyway.
While I normally have flavored rooibos blends, I got this in a Secret Santa swap, so I decided to brew it up … and I’m reminded why I normally stick to flavored rooibos blends.
It’s your typical rooibos flavor with sort of a woodsy taste to it. It’s not unbearable, but it’s not amazing. I bet this is a higher quality rooibos blend than others, too, but I’m just not feeling it. I wonder if I steeped it too long and gave it too strong of a flavor, but I doubt it. I’m going to stick to my flavored blends, but it’s nice to step outside of the box every once in a while.
Lovely guava flavor with an unobtrusive white base. I taste the ginger a bit but the strawberry not really at all. It might have to do with the cold brewing.
Guava is one of those fruits that I’ve seen and smelled at the market but never eaten fresh. I have no idea what to do with one. The flavor of this tea is a lot like the smell of the fresh fruit though so I would say the flavoring is quite natural.
Thank you Azzrian. This is very tasty.
Thanks to Azzrian for the sample.
I just got a new ingenuiTEA and I was excited to try this tea, since now the leaves have plenty of room to expand!
This is a very nice oolong. I’m getting a little bit of flavor, but it’s not as overpowering as I thought it would be. I can taste the hints on citrus and vanilla, and it’s a nice compliment to it. I don’t know if I’m blown away by it, but I’ll certainly give it a few more steeps and see what happens.
Second infusion: The flavor is still kicking. I’m impressed at how well it holds up in the second infusion. Not bad.
Glad you like it! I find myself reaching for it often – its just a good tea that is dependable, maybe not explosively great but always a good choice.
Yeah. I think it’s definitely a “gateway oolong”. And for some reason, Steepster didn’t send me your comment. Boo :(
Oh I was wanting to try this one. Nice job getting the ingenuitea, I have the teavana one and love it. By the way, how do you sample so many teas from other steepsters? I really want to do this but probably don’t have enough variety for swapping.
I would have bought the Teavana one if I didn’t have the Adagio certificate. It’s pretty good too.
I don’t have a lot of teas to swap either. I’ve done a couple swaps, but I’ve also contacted people and asked for samples and offered to pay for shipping in lieu of not having tea to swap. Some members also make swapping baskets they sell.
Word of warning!! It is in your best interests to swap now, buy later! If you’re like me, you won’t like half the teas you buy, but you will adore some you are given to try. Or if you buy, buy in Sample sizes only; just because you fall in love with a tea does not mean you immediately need 100g. I’d suggest LiberTEAS’ box of samples. I know she had one left recently, but it could be gone now. (I swim in tea…. Learn from my mistakes!)
I went back and forth on Liberteas sample box. I want to, but it’s a little pricey. And there are so many teas. I already know I’m past my limit.
Yeah. It’s mostly having ALL those teas when I already have so many to go through. It is very tempting though. :-/
This has been a very depressing day. I started this tea cold brewing when I left the house today. I didn’t realize it was an oolong. For some reason I thought this was a green. Well the leaves expanded way more than expected for that reason and my cup is pretty strong on flavor. Dilute it was cold water and it tastes just about perfect. It’s a very soothing cup of chilled tea for a tough day. The vanilla is comfortingly creamy and sweet and the lemon keeps it fresh.
This reminds me quite s bit of David’s Tea’s Vanilla Oolong. I’d be curious to try them side by side to compare.
Thank you, Azzrian for sharing this delicious blend with me.
