Thanks to Alphakitty for this one.
It tastes like flowers and Anise. It’s SO not like the other Lotus Teas I have tried…in any way, shape, or form. This one…is…strange. It’s not bad tasting…just really DIFFERENT. I can’t say I like it but it’s not a cup I wouldn’t poor down the sink…I WOULD finish the cup, but…I’m rather confused by this one. Perhaps one day…we will find a happy medium…this tea…and I????
I’m going to have to get my hands on a lotus tea at some point. This one doesn’t sound like the one to try first, huh?
This is definitely a weird one, I debated sending it but I thought someone with more tea experience would appreciate the flavors a bit better (or at least be able to pick them out!).
Geez… waiting for this to cool and the smell is driving me crazy(in a good way of course)! It smells soooo yummy.
This tea is very creamy.. At first it reminds me of coffee, it has a nice coconut/nutty flavor to it then runs into chocolatey nuttyness. The aftertaste kind of reminds me of a graham cracker.. or a marshmallow? I’m so confused. ANYWAYS this tea is fantastic whatever the aftertaste is.
Preparation
I have never tried a banana tea so I thought I’d give this one a shot! There is a very strong chamomile flavor at first (maybe too much?). This is the more dominant flavor. But the aftertaste is where you find the banana and caramel flavors. It’s light but it’s also very delicious. You can’t really catch the rooibos, which is a bit of a disappointment.. This would be a wonderful “wind down after a busy day”/bedtime tea.
Preparation
Words can’t explain how bad I needed to try this tea. Lychee black tea is probably always going to be one of my favorite teas. I have a HUGE tin full of it :]
Anyways… I absolutely love the smell of this tea. So soft and fruity. The taste is the same too. To me the lychee was the more dominant flavor with hints of peachy-pearness and a subtle black tea in the background. I really liked this tea. A nice switch up to my classic lychee black tea :]
The flavor could have been a little bit stronger but maybe I will just play with it a bit more :]
Preparation
This was recommended to me by Azzrian and I have to say I’m glad it was because I totally would have overlooked it otherwise.
I’m trying to figure out how to describe it. And now I’m even more paranoid about my descriptions after the “Overdoing it?” discussion currently taking place!
I would have to say “Fragrant” is very appropriate to describe this tea. It is a bit perfumey, but not in a bad way. I can taste a bit of vanilla and some sort of fruity/citrus coming through. It has a wonderful oolong base, too! Usually I get teas that are supposed to resemble something else (Guava, coconut, chocolate covered strawberries, caramel, etc.) that it’s nice to just be able to enjoy this cup without trying to figure out if it lives up to its noun-name :)
Overall, I like it.
Now, it’s my last day of summer vacation and there is a 5-part Chopped All-Stars marathon waiting for me in my DVR folder. You know where to find me.
Preparation
smells mildly floral/fruity … reminded me of earl grey smell.
liquor is light colored also thin, mild… floral reminds me of a very mild earl grey for some reason, not a fan of the taste but being mild its drinkable. if you like that earl grey florallyness go for it
Preparation
dry leaves – smells almost florally till the mint hits you
liquor very light, not like a black tea at all mild minty smell
overwhelmingly minty flavor, liquor feels thin like a keemun… but the thing that stands out is the mint possibly with a slight floral taste to it
i cant help but think they misslabeled this tea, as its nothing like the other ceylon ive had… its also very light for a black tea, by looks (liquor) it might be mistaken for a mature white tea /dirty yellow liquor
if you are thinking about getting it, keep in mind the mintyness. as i like mint i didnt mind this tea, although i do prefer my true blacks.
Preparation
very subtle smell, like a mild keemun smell, dark chocolaty smell.
liquor smells more earthy/dull than the dry leaf.
has an earthy/dark flavor pretty subtle, not as bold as some other black teas. but has some complexity? that comes through, a very interesting tea and the first one ive liked in a while.(enough to drink daily)
im a little conflicted about the earthiness of the tea but overall i like the tea. as a note on persimmon tree itself, i find their tea descriptions pretty accurate at least for the few black/white teas ive tried.
Preparation
Made a 2nd infusion of this last night and iced it and man it held up well! It’s nice and sweet without any sugar, but not overly sweet. The ultra creamyness falls away to make way for the coconut in this batch. I don’t know if that’s because 1. I didn’t add soy milk, 2. It’s the 2nd infusion, or 3. It’s iced…..
I’d prefer a hot cup right now, but for some reason none of my travel mugs want to agree with me. Something I am NOT happy about since I start commuting via train next week. Speaking of which, gotta go buy my monthly rider pass now before the ticket booth closes at 6:30am! :)
Side note: I’m putting together a tea sampler box for my aunt today. She said she drinks “Mostly English Breakfast and Earl Gray… occasionally a dessert chai”… OHHH I’m so excited to corrupt and convert her to this wonderful world of tea! She has no idea what she’s missing!
Preparation
My exact words when I tasted this tea just now were, “Ooh… Oh… Oh yea…” (Which, for some reason were spoken in an almost Tina Fay playing Sarah Palin accent….)
This tea is goooood! I got my 4 teas plus 6 samples from The Persimmon Tree in the mail today and based on smell alone I HAD to try this one first!
I’ve been really weary of white teas in the past, but every time I try them, I don’t know why I don’t drink them more! I think it has to do with the myth that white teas are super low in caffeine… Actually, how do you tell how much caffeine a white tea has, anyway? (Because I hear it fluctuates?)
Ok anyway, back to this tea. If you like coconut, and you like creamy, just go out and buy this tea. Seriously, stop reading this review and just go buy it. Even if you’re a white tea sissy like me. It reminds me, in a way, of the Cantaloupe and Creme tea from Butiki that is my #1 favorite tea ever. I added a bit of vanilla soy milk to this because it’s like 98* outside and I don’t care what studies say about hot tea bringing down your body temperature; it’s too hot for hot hot tea right now! I do have another mug of just hot tea over here trying to cool down, though, let me sip that…. yea, no, still too hot, the only flavor I get is burnt tongue coming through. So, for now, coconut, creme and vanilla soy milk is mmm mmmm delicious!
Preparation
White teas with caffeine – it’s popularly stated that black teas have more caffeine and whites have very little. But then other studies say that whites actually have the most due to the lack of processing. I find it honestly depends on the tea, and it probably comes down to location, harvest date, age, etc.
Persimmons Tree noticed was looking for a similar flavor from another company and asked if I wanted to try this – OF COURSE I WOULD! Thanks so much!!!!
The aroma both dry and wet are subtle and flowing.
The color is a dark brown – thanks to the blend of black and green teas as the base. The Jasmine is quite floral but the passion fruit gives it that bit of juicy to contribute the “Opposites Attract” sort of theme. I like that about this tea.
I also like that it’s more than just a green tea base! I like they did the black and green blend.
This is a nice relaxing sort of tea yet floral and fruity but neither of those flavors are too much to handle.
I’m so jazzed I got to try this! I give it a thumbs up!
Special Thanks to Amy Oh for this one! I like Peaches and I like Picnics…so…lets do a happy dance for this tisane! Woot!
The Peach and Citrus flavors sing in unison – much like happy, hungry ants singing joyfully and whistling as they march off with some Glorious Picnic Crumbs.
How’s that for imaginative? LOL
The strawberry was a nice surprise in this one! It’s subtle but adds that juicy and plump goodness to it.
I really like this hot but I’m sure it would be just as good if not better iced! YUM!
My 10th sample from my The Persimmon Tree order and final one (for now, muhhahhahahaha). This one was a last minute dump into the cart as I’m not a rooibos fan, but I subconsciously keep trying to like rooibos.
DRY: One of those Andes chocolate mints, straight up. Lots of big and interesting chunks in this tea which after checking ingredients is apple. 2t used for this steeping.
STEEPED: Deep chocolate with mint. I opened the lid of my DavidTeas steeper and got blasted with a mint facial! Steeps up a slightly cloudy light brown.
TASTE: Minty chocolate, like an Andes chocolate mint candy. Slightly sweet. Rooibos isn’t very pronounced. A smooth and slightly creamy after taste. Good balance of refreshing mint. I found the tea a little watery, I think maybe more dry leaves would help, however I added some rock sugar into my cup and a splash of soymilk to help it out some.
WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Rooibos haters (like me) and lovers, someone who wants a chocolately tea for a late dessert.
COMMENTS:
I wish I got DavidsTea Mint Chocolate Rooibos, it be great to compare to! However, I have “Read my Lips” which is harder to compare to “Mint Chocolate Chip” because it’s black tea, peppercorns and doesn’t have vanilla/etc.
This surprised me in not tasting horrible rooibos, however lost points for tasting a little watery weak. This tea would probably do well steeped stronger into a latte. Overall, the tea is well done, great for someone who isn’t into rooibos but wants no caffeine.
So, after tasting 10 of The Persimmon Tree teas, I gotta say all were really good. The ones that I didn’t dig were just not for me personally.
Preparation
9th tea out of my samples from Persimmon Tree. I’m hoping to finish trying them all today, then I can make another order with some bigger tins and a few other samples I missed.
So this morning I’m very tired, tired enough that I almost dumped protein powder in my tea cup instead of into my oatmeal. That would of been gross with this tea! I tried once with a black tea, it gets all pancake battery.
DRY: crisp minty smell. Pretty spattering of rose petals in this tea.
STEEPED: Mint and rose smell – wonderfully balanced. Steeps up a nice light yellow. 2t of dry tea used.
TASTE: delicate and crisp mint comes out first, with the tea blooming in floral. Also a mysterious light sweetness and a couple sips I had a fruity taste that I can’t identify. White tea comes out as well. Very well balanced mint and floral flavor.
WHO’D LOVE THIS TEA: Mint tea drinkers wanting a hit of energy in the morning. Floral tea drinkers.
COMMENTS: I like the mystery sweetness and the floral in this tea. The mint is balanced in so well – as from what I got from other Persimmon Tree teas, they know how to blend a tea.
Overall, very good however not in my range of tastes.
Preparation
8th tea from Persimmon Tree… 2 more to go! Phew, so much tea but all so delicious!
I had a boxes of lychee tea (I can’t remember if it was in black or oolong tea) I used to love, but it was horribly bitter and poor quality. I still loved that tea back then, when all I knew was teas in bags. Plus it was like a $1 or $2 a box at the asian super markets.
DRY: Strong fruityness.. I think I can make out peach. Very sweet smelling, reminds me of a Jolly Rancher in sweet and fruity smell.
STEEPED: Smells like that lychee tea I drank in the bag but better. Lychee and a black tea scent. Steeps up to a nice dark brown tea.
2t at 200F.
TASTE: Not bitter or tart clean black tea with slight sweetness from lychee. I can pick up a slight floral after taste.
WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Fellow peeps that buy that cheap lychee tea at asian super markets. Black tea drinkers or someone looking for more exotic fruit.
COMMENTS: This seriously tastes like that lychee tea I used to buy, but 10 times better with the better quality black tea and Persimmon Trees excellent blending of tea. Clean tasting, not musty or cardboardy (yeah.. it was cheap tea).
I think Lychee Peach is on the same wave length of “Tropical Pineapple” (also by Persimmon Tree) of the main focus is the tea with a fruit in the background.
One big thing bothering me though. I don’t notice any peach taste. The only peachyness was in the scent. Also the ingredients listed online are Organic Black Loose-Leaf Tea, Lychee Essence, Safflowers, Natural Flavors, Lychee Peach Tea, Lychee Black Tea – just a brief peach mention. I could go for some peach bits.. mmmm now I’m thinking of Fusion Teas PEACH CRUNCHIES! YUM!
The floral taste of this tea is interesting, it reminds me of drinking a rose black tea, but with no rose in it.
Very good and a replacement tea for me when I want asian lychee tea, but not blowing my pants off. I think I wanted something new to the table, but overall good tea.
Preparation
ICED TEA MODE!
I’m finishing up my sample of this – 3tsp steeped in a little 175f water, poured over ice and honey.
The result: Up front green tea taste, crisp and veggie like. Aftertaste of fresh pineapple. I like this better iced than hot.
I wish the pineapple was stronger, but this is a good tea for someone who wants a lightly flavored tea.
