I seem to be striking out with teas from the Persimmon Tree lately. I think that I enjoy this more by scent than by taste and was really surprised that this tea didn’t taste at all like I expected it to. I’m really glad that I only ordered a sample. I do love that I can pick up samples for around $1.
I was surprised that the rooibos stood out as much as it did and that I didn’t pick up much from the peach at all. You can taste the black base as well as a hint of cinnamon and a tart flavor from the apple. I think my main problem is with the apple flavor used, while it did taste like an apple should, I expected it to be much sweeter since it is called Peach Apple Crisp.
Preparation
I ordered a sample of this recently and since I’m on a cream tea kick right now decided to try it out. The suggested instructions for this were to steep 2-4m in 180degree water, I steeped the first half of my sample for 3m and the second half of my sample for 4m. Neither left me impressed with this tea.
The white tea base came though strongly, followed by a hint of cream, however I could only barely taste the coconut. I was really hoping for more coconut flavor out of this tea so it was a bit of a let down.
Preparation
The last two days I’ve had a grand total of three cups of tea and I think the lack is starting to affect my sanity (then again it could be the sick toddler, hard to tell.) I don’t drink much in the way of black tea anymore, but when I saw this one, which is a combination of black and white teas it intrigued me. I’ve never seen the two blended together before.
This certainly is a bold black tea and an interesting combination. It steeped up nice and dark and ended up being just what I needed today. It had the added benefit of making the house smell delicious. Taste wise the black tea comes across strong although it has a hint of bitterness which gets stronger as it cools. I think I might try a slightly lower temperature with the last of my sample and see what happens with that. While I love the taste of the vanilla and the creaminess it adds, I think the amount of bitterness detracts from the blend a bit.
The second steep was much less bitter and more to my tastes. The vanilla still stood out, but not as much as the initial steep.
Preparation
I’ve had the opportunity to sample this tea before, but I had rather mixed feelings about. My original notes said that when I sampled it hot I wasn’t blown away by it, but I did enjoy it. Even a year later my feelings still haven’t changed about that, I just don’t care for this tea as much when it is hot. The flavor seems much more muted and it lacks the depth I taste once the tea has cooled. As an iced tea the flavor really pops. There is a lightly floral flavor and a hint of sweet, juicy peach. So many peach teas go overboard with flavoring and you can’t taste the base tea, but with this blend I can taste the Bai Mu Dan white tea, it adds some much needed depth. This is one of the few peach teas that I could see myself reordering next year. I’ve been drinking it for a solid week straight now and still don’t find myself tiring of the flavor, something that is very rare since I’m a firm believer that variety is the spice of life.

oh, i hate it when the taste doesn’t live up to the smell. =0(
Hmmmmm, my +15 from the Black Friday thread is samples from Persimmon, suddenly not too optimistic about them. I hope that you find some that you really like.
actually, I did really like the white guava and white peach.
Well… that’s a few at least. I’m a bit nervous about mine, but I think 10 samples for $10 (and free shipping to CANADA!) is completely worth it if it helps me decide if I like a company or not. :D
I agree, it was a great deal, was just a little nervous about having 15 “not for me” teas in my house. Happy to hear that Sorceress liked some of them. Restored my hope. :))
I’m feeling a bit better about my samples today. I left my coconut creme in the fridge over night and can finally taste the coconut in it. I’ll probably do the same with the last of my peach apple crisp and see if that helps any.
I wanted to try the samples I had before I ordered any more. The $5 + free shipping offer is a really good one, and I do have some rewards points to use that will make it an even sweeter deal, but I’m not going to order any more samples yet.
I need to learn that rule “try the samples I had before I ordered any more”. I have tons of teas I haven’t tried yet, and I seem to keep ordering more. LOL time to get a grip (like I haven’t said that before).
