Recent Tasting Notes

Had this last night, since I couldn’t think of anything else to say about the tea I last logged, I gave up on writing about this one at the time.

This is alright, it’s not as fruity as you’d be lead to believe by the name. I think pomegranate must be actually very difficult to duplicate in tea. This is just a bit tart, not really like a pomegranate, but more like berries.

Didn’t have any issues with bitterness, there’s enough for one more cup and I might give it a short cold brew and see how it is.

I’m not going to lie, I enjoy fruit tisanes that taste like juice. I mean, it’s hardly even tea even in the most generous sense of the word, but it’s tasty! Like fruit punch without all the sugar. A lot of Teavana’s blends are like this bu just a bit too tart for me, so I am looking for a less hibiscus-y version.

I got a sample of this on a whim, and oh boy am I glad I did. When I opened up the little bag I smelled… cinnamon! The first thing I thought was that my sample had been contaminated, but I have never had a sample from Persimmon Tree pick up flavors from other ones they are packaged in. Also, I don’t have any cinnamon teas in there—a chai, but the smell of that one is pure ginger and cardamom. My second, more reasonable thought was that my nose was just off so I cold brewed a cup and thought it would be totally fruity by morning.

Well, blessedly, it’s not! The smell is strong cinnamon and vanilla, with a strong fruity undertone. The taste is like cinnamon coffee cake with fruit compote on top, cherry and strawberry! I’m kind of fascinated by this since there are only fruity ingredients listed aside from the flavoring. But really, I’m sure if there was cinnamon/vanilla in here someone else would have made a note of it!

As it is, I would give this tea a ridiculously high score because it is just so so tasty. However, I don’t think it is really supposed to taste like this— happy accident indeed, but I am left wondering what happened.

No rating as I’m not too keen on white teas, so I don’t have a basis to judge this one.

This is a light, playful blend of peppermint and botanicals. It’s soothing and spa-like. I bet it would be delicious iced! I was able to get two infusions from one round, always appreciate leaves that last longer than one infusion.

The peppermint plays off the floral taste nicely. I’m not normally a fan of roses (not in my tea nor otherwise) but I don’t mind the light floral taste when it’s paired with refreshing peppermint.

Another one I kind of forgot I had. I think I under steeped. Not a lot going on. A little rose, a little rooibos. The aroma is distinctly peach and apple. I need to play with this some and see what I can get out of it.

I just posted a review of this on my blog http://theeverdayteablog.blogspot.com/ I had planned to save it back for later but it pleasantly surprised me so I went ahead and published.

Short version – not the overwhelming fruit and flowers I was expecting. It is lightly flavored and bonus I can taste the tea base. I did not notice the hibiscus and could only catch rooibos in the cup aroma while breathing in as I sipped – Just not at the same time ;)

Well done!

Azzrian

I really love the look of your blog!

I enjoyed this gunpowder, it’s creamy and a bit smoky – perfect for mixing with mint for my own Moroccan Mint blend! Yummeh,

This is not the tea for me. It has a cinnamon spiciness that mixed with the mint and it is just kind of the opposite of my taste palate. I know other’s are loving it, so I will refrain from rating.

Subtle vanilla taste with a black tea base. For some reason this tea left me wanting more vanilla – but then again I always want more vanilla!

Light on the fruit in a good way. Nice alternative to heavily scented flavored tea. I really like the light touch of ginger that let’s me know it’s there but doesn’t dominate the tea.

Thank you Azzrian for your awesome kindness in the holiday tea package you sent me! This was the first tea I tried.
Interestingly, it reminds me of coffee. Which is not a bad thing because I have been kind of craving coffee lately… it feels so wrong to say that haha but I really don’t need it. Its just I miss the creaminess of a cup of coffee. And that’s only because I have to put so much cream in to mask the awful taste of the coffee itself. Mostly its the amazing smell that gets me..
Anyway, this tea is pretty good with milk and sugar. If I get a stupid coffee craving, I’d go for this one. Its quite strong as well.

Azzrian

LOL awesome glad you enjoyed it!

I didn’t really care for this – but I’m not a fan of lychee so I’m not surprised. I don’t want to rate this for that reason. I tried it, and it was blech but I don’t fault the tea!

I have a little left for the next swap I do. Or if someone loves Lychee and wants it, it’s yours. :)

Thank you Dhart1214 for this sample tea!

Oh well now. I have tried all along to look for the good in every tea I drink.
Looking, Looking, Looking…

I won’t rate this tea. I can’t. For some reason the black tea makes my mouth feel like cat fur and the vanilla tastes strange.

I’m so sorry. I’ve failed to find anything good other than the temperature of the tea.

So it looks like I am the only person who doesnt like this tea. The dry notes smell terrible, and as they steep it smells like vomit (literally). Once it has steeped I do get a hint of a coconut and chocolate smell, but mostly just a really gross pukey smell. And once you sip it I get more of the same. I just can’t drink this. YUCK! Maybe there was something that happened to this sample but wow.
I won’t give this a numerical rating because it seems that something went wring with this one.

Finn88

ugh lol. Even if I was going to try this, I now am not ha.

Kittenna

So I definitely thought vomit when I smelled this tea too… although it was drinkable for me when cold (lost the vomit smell once steeped). Very offputting though…

Azzrian

EEK!!!!!!!! I have had that happen to me before as well in other teas! I remember specifically one from Adagio! I wonder why this is? Mine was a but off putting but not like THAT! I do notice some teas with coconut in them often smell icky but once steeped are okay.

Kittenna

Usually I’ve found that coconut = soapy, but coconut also seems to = vomit sometimes. Most blends that I’ve had that taste off contain coconut (which is interesting…)

Sample sipdown!! thanks again Sil :)
made it with milk and a touch of agave. I think it was better without. Still good, but… less complex!

Sil

You crazy milk adding fool!

Indigobloom

heh, I can’t help it! I HAD to know

Thanks to Sil for the sample!!
I like this one. Minty and chocolate but unique. Very astringent though, be careful of that. I don’t mind but I know others who would.
No milk or sugar added and it was rather sweet which contrasted well with the tart aspect. Not sure I’d keep it around but I sure did love my cuppa! :)

I don’t like rooibos or banana, so I had a moment of fear when I got this as a free sample in my last order. But hey, a sample’s a sample, and I did want to try it out! The dry “leaves” smell really good, not at all banana-like or rooibos-y. It kind of smells like… apple pie, without the spice. I guess that’s because of the apple chunks!

Steeped it also smells really good. While I hate (and I mean HATE) fresh banana, this is like a baked banana taste. Like banana bread or banana oatmeal cookies! Sweet and creamy. The rooibos is surprisingly un-medicinal (though that might be because I got nervous and steeped it for a pretty short time), and it adds to the bakey-ness of the tea. And the apple chunks add some nice fruitiness. The chocolate, sadly, isn’t really that present—I would definitely like a little more chocolate oomph in my cup, given the name and all! And most surprisingly of all, the peppercorn adds a pretty big bite at the end (though there were like 5 in my cup). Sometimes they are just there for decorative purposes, but I feel like they do add some dimension to this.

This isn’t my favorite or something I’d dip into often since, well, I don’t like most of the ingredients, but surprisingly I did enjoy it and will definitely finish my sample off! I think banana fans will really love this one.

Wow this sounds great! I am tried of rooibos for now though. Still you make it very tempting!

Alphakitty

I was totally amazed at how much I liked it, given how much rooibos usually disagrees with me. It makes me want to try some of their other blends with more… appealing flavors.
